I'm actually finding it tough to think that this side would be under 10 mil which isn't a bad sign. I think you're a touch heavy in the fwds. So far we have seen teams pick 3 or 4 at most. Unless you're confident they will all finish top 10 I would be culling one or two and boosting your backs
Thanks, i currently have $8,300 in the bank
who do you suppose i should remove or look to bring in?

When GAJ was at the height of his powers we picked him regardless of price. Having that rolled gold captaincy option is bloody crucial and Dangers season last year was essentially this level. I think you have to pick him....almost
It's your first job when your picking team. Pick your likely 2 Captain options, regardless of price, then start from there. The last thing you want is a team with 15 "value Premiums", then having to umm and ahh over who your Captain is each week! Much better to have 13 Premiums, and an easy Captain choice.

I preface this by saying I think I'll probably pick Dangerfield.

But. Fyfe and Rockliff have historically similar ceilings but are both more than $100k cheaper than Dangerfield.

If you believe that Dangerfield is in a new world of his own, you pay the premium and suck it up, but if you think Fyfe and Rockliff are capable of returning to their best then the usual captaincy argument for the expensive but necessary player may not be as strong as it was when we lived in the Age Of Ablett.

Wise words. Applies in all forms of fantasy competitions varied to suit.

That really depends on who you want in your team and who you are picking to fill the gaps as such. If it were me, and bennell is fit round one which I too am hoping for, I would move on wingard for a rookie. Then downgrade doc to perhaps Shaw and upgrade both Hartlett and kk

First crack of my 2017 SC side using the team picker. Have $3,200 of cash leftover.

DEF: Adams, Hartlett, Kolodjashnij, Scharenberg, Hampton, Newman (Vickers-Willis, Uebergang)
MID: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Fyfe, Bontempelli, Titchell, Beams, Swallow, Myers (Powell-Pepper, Wigg, Graham)
RUC: Gawn, Sandilands (Strnadica)
FWD: Dahlhaus, Macrae, Heeney, Bennell, Ryder, Pickett (Bolton, Eddy)
Wow you've got those dollars to stretch a fair way. If your mid pricers work out, you'll be flying!

I'm seeing the midfield rookies as the best and most plentiful so personally I'd be reshuffling the funds and turning a couple of those mid pricers into out and out premiums.

Updated the original post with instructions. Log into the 2016 supercoach site and on your home page you will have a 2017 team picker button. Just for reference, I had a digital subscription (not the $20 gold) which I cancelled at the end of the season. I don't have access to the HS articles right now, but I am still able to access the team picker because I was a subscriber in 2016.
Thanks. Had assumed I didn't have it when I logged into app version and it wasn't showing up. now rechecked it on web version and its there, as I only had digital access as well during season. Happy Days!

Dw after about a hundred of these, it'll prob end up as version 1.
Hahah yeah i know mate. I sometimes wish i'd keep copies of my drafts just to see which one would have turned out to be the best...but i almost always end up with an unplanned player in my team in those crazy minutes before lockout. i'm sure this year will be no different.

My two structures i'm playing with:

4-0-4
3-Beams-1-5
Gawnstein-0-1
4-0-4

and

4-0-4
4-Beams-0-5
Goldilands-1
4-0-4

Essentially Gawn + mid pricer mid vs Sandi + premo mid.

What's everyone thinking in regards to team structure?
I am interested in the discussion, but my view is that (1) it always depends on the rookies, and (2) the detailed discussion of rookies prior to NAB is almost a complete waste of time in my experience. [That doesn't mean I won't engage in it though :p]

I actually tend to agree, but ideally I wish I didn't. I want my structure to be controlled by my premiums, bc they score the points, but alas it's not to be.

I'm looking at:
3-1-5
5-1-5
2-0-1
3-0-5

Can we get a solid definition of premiums in each line going?

First crack:

Def: Shaw, Laird, Logue, Cox, McLarty, Ridley (Witherden, Stewert) (2-0-6)
Mid: Dangerfield, Hannebery, Parker, Fyfe, Beams, McGrath, Powell-Pepper, Myers (Brodie, Berry, Graham) (5-0-6)
Ruck: Gawn, Goldy, (Strnadica??) (2-0-1)
Fwd: Dahlhaus, Greene, Heeney, Touk Touk, Douglas, Ainsworth (Bowes, McCluggage) (1-4-3)

Could be the year for a full GnR strategy with a supposedly deep draft and clubs like Brissy and te Suns with lots of early draft picks and a desperate need for ready to go players.

Went bare in defence with mostly rookies, Solid rolled gold with my premos in the mids (i would note i reckon it's going to be hard to start with both Danger and Pendles due to both their high cost and obviously Danger wins out). Like the idea of starting with both Parker and Hanners, don't think too many will do that, Beams the possibly risky one but too cheap to ignore at that price. Rucks obvious set and forget, but i did momentarily toy with the idea of taking Jacobs again and thought "Don't do that to yourself ***". Bit more speculative forward but i think that's the way it's going to have to run next season with positional changes. Dahl the easy choice, Greene did ok last year, Touk Touk looks good and hopefully Heeney steps up and gets more midfield time with Tom Mitchell gone. Richard Douglas just filling a gap really but it did surprise me to see him as a mid-fwd.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

Don't mind the structure but a few picks I think could be adjusted. Don't know if you heard the news about Parker's setback with knee surgery putting him out of training for the next month I think. Also Douglas is a bit of a nothing pick, won't average enough to be a keeper or make enough $$$ to be worthwhile as a cow. Think you'd be better of going Douglas to a rookie and maybe upgrading a defender to a Hibberd/KK/Hartlett type or Brodie to JOM?

Overall my suggestions. Parker, Douglas and Brodie to Pendles, FWD rookie (Eddy/Pickett/J Thomas) and JOM. May be a more solid option but overall a nice side!
