Don't mind the structure but a few picks I think could be adjusted. Don't know if you heard the news about Parker's setback with knee surgery putting him out of training for the next month I think. Also Douglas is a bit of a nothing pick, won't average enough to be a keeper or make enough $$$ to be worthwhile as a cow. Think you'd be better of going Douglas to a rookie and maybe upgrading a defender to a Hibberd/KK/Hartlett type or Brodie to JOM?

Overall my suggestions. Parker, Douglas and Brodie to Pendles, FWD rookie (Eddy/Pickett/J Thomas) and JOM. May be a more solid option but overall a nice side!
Thanks for your comments JB, didn't know that about Parker, still keen see how things go. Douglas is definitely a nothing pick, just filling a gap at this point, still have $64k in the bank, assuming i can downgrade at least a couple of the higher priced rookies to bottom priced ones come round one i should have at least $600k to throw around on a better player. I'm not keen at all on JOM here, too many unknowns, i reckon he would've wanted to be no more than about $250k to be viable, i'd rather have a cheap round one rookie.

First crack:

Def: Shaw, Laird, Logue, Cox, McLarty, Ridley (Witherden, Stewert) (2-0-6)
Mid: Dangerfield, Hannebery, Parker, Fyfe, Beams, McGrath, Powell-Pepper, Myers (Brodie, Berry, Graham) (5-0-6)
Ruck: Gawn, Goldy, (Strnadica??) (2-0-1)
Fwd: Dahlhaus, Greene, Heeney, Touk Touk, Douglas, Ainsworth (Bowes, McCluggage) (1-4-3)

Could be the year for a full GnR strategy with a supposedly deep draft and clubs like Brissy and te Suns with lots of early draft picks and a desperate need for ready to go players.

Went bare in defence with mostly rookies, Solid rolled gold with my premos in the mids (i would note i reckon it's going to be hard to start with both Danger and Pendles due to both their high cost and obviously Danger wins out). Like the idea of starting with both Parker and Hanners, don't think too many will do that, Beams the possibly risky one but too cheap to ignore at that price. Rucks obvious set and forget, but i did momentarily toy with the idea of taking Jacobs again and thought "Don't do that to yourself ***". Bit more speculative forward but i think that's the way it's going to have to run next season with positional changes. Dahl the easy choice, Greene did ok last year, Touk Touk looks good and hopefully Heeney steps up and gets more midfield time with Tom Mitchell gone. Richard Douglas just filling a gap really but it did surprise me to see him as a mid-fwd.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!
I love a good ole 206 defense and agree that this certainly feels like the year GnR should be the strategy we run with. We should see an abundance of rookies, albeit the more expensive ones but there's always a couple of cheapies that pop up as well.

As JB16 mentioned Parker is one to watch with that interrupted preseason. Your fwd line looks a touch vulnerable but all 3 questionables have breakout written all over them so could have you ahead of the pack if they do take it to the next level.

Jacobs, i looked at too... :D

$116400

What's that amount you ask? The Oh-So tempting difference between Goldy and Jacobs that's going to get you from player (x) to player (y) sometime between now and March.

Where's Phil? I think he might have some ideas on whether it's worth the heartache.

May as well see how I am going.

Def: Doc, Adams, Lloyd, McGrath, Hampton, Scharenberg (Newman, Ryan)

Mid: Danger, Trelaor, Bont, Fyfe, Beams, Swallow, Brodie, Myers (Berry, PP, Barrett)

R: Gawn, Grundy (Cameron)

For: Dahl, Macrae, Heeney, Roughy, McCluggage, Bowes (Eddy, Durdin)

Removing Gawn to Sandi means I can upgrade Hampton/Scharenberg to a JJ/Laird. I would really love Titchell in there too but have been persuaded that Beams is too good to miss out on. May also look to find funds for Foote with reports of Parker's knee surgery hampering his pre-season.

Bolded players aren't going to be moving out of my team unless injury/R1 selection. And yes, that is Jake Lloyd from Sydney bolded over Doc. You've gotta trust your gut and mine is saying Lloyd looks the goods.

Don't have the team picker so just researched premiums I wanted for prices...

DEF- Shaw, Laird, Rance
MID- Danger, JPK, Fyfe, Selwood, Treloar
RUCK- Gawn, Goldstein
FWD- Dahl, Macrae, Lynch (GC)

Leaves me avg 145k per position to fill remaining squad.

That would be a poddish midfield Nathan. Not starting Beams or are you considering him a non premium/mid pricer?

Not starting him, money saved on his selection doesn't get me an extra premium so I'll avoid the risk.
At Fyfe's non discounted price if he was to get injured he's a less of a headache trade out early.

Fair enough, preseason will tell all I suppose.

Treloar over Pendles seems popular. I'm kinda tempted to start both as I think Treloar is very worthwhile, and after going the whole year without Pendles last year, I vowed never to do it again.

Ok here we go.....
Simpson Shaw Boyd Montagna schanberg berry Ryan stewert
Danger pendles rocky fyfe beams Myers Clarke mutch freeman scheer graham
Gawn Goldie strnadica
Dahlhaus lids bennell ainsworth battle eddy Bowes o'kearney
Like the pod factor in Boyd. Not sold on Joey this year, keen to hear others thoughts.
Can't bring myself to start with Rocky as his durability scares me, that said he generally seems to string together 9-10 games before falling over so burning a trade for the potential ceiling he can offer isn't madness.
Bennell. Would need some miraculous pixie dust to be sprinkled on him for me to consider.

Pretty solid team JW, similar to one of my first iterations.
Yeah Lloyd looks the goods and is trending in right path. Some concerns re Swans scuttle on Mills/Heeney filling the mid void and stifling Lloyd.
Swallow/Scharenberg combo screams risky. I like risky.

When GAJ was at the height of his powers we picked him regardless of price. Having that rolled gold captaincy option is bloody crucial and Dangers season last year was essentially this level. I think you have to pick him....almost
There is some merit in thinking a Fyfe or Rockcliff could fill that roll early on tho.

My only comment - love the Swallow selection :)

Well done

Yeah, i don't love Greene to be honest. I feel he's too dependent on goals to score well and i think he'll be getting more attention this coming year again. Not sure how Lids fits into it all either, and whether that will have an effect on Greene as a forward flanker/midfielder.

Would be interested to see his heatmap if anyone still has access to that?

Thanks for the reply Spiny. Scharenberg is a placeholder right now. It could be him or Keefe or someone cheaper. Swallow will be in the side if he plays a minimum of 2 pre-season games.

Risky ruck setup. Smart if it works but it would take a few trades and weeks to sort out if both rucks go down. I feel you are too heavy in the midfield. Remember that midfielder rookies are most likely to score higher and gain more money than forward and defensive rookies. I'd consider removing one premo or two and get in two of McCluggage/Bowes/Brodie/Ainsworth

Okay, first team picker attempt. Rookies obviously all placeholders.

Love it, hate it, tear it apart - go for it...

How much in the kitty zagbag? If none you will almost certainly need to find 100-200k to ensure you've got all the right rookies.

I'm completely off Bennell now, an injury and interrupted preseason is enough for me to pass.
