Couldnt even wait til christmas to have a crack this year. First look and the team pretty much picked itself. Rough & Sandi seem like no brainers to me, really low Risk v Reward granted decent pre seasons. 163k per rookie

Montagna, Adams, Laird
Danger, Pendles, Gaz, Fyfe, Beams
Goldy, Sandi
Dahl, Deledio, Macrae, Roughy,

G'day mate. Some great selections there and many the same as my current team.

No Ryder though with Sandi in the rucks? Any reason for that?

Especially keen to hear from a Port supporter like yourself.

Fairly strong chance Lids will become Ryder, 163k per rookie might not be enough this year and that would give the extra 100k buffer needed. I do think Lids is in for a ripper year though, presure off, hell be back to enjoying his footy.

Okay no worries. So no issues with Ryder as a pick then. Good to know.

Lack of forwards leads one to pick one more mid to get some more firepower on the park early. Will only do this if I go with Sandi at R 2
Given you have Sandilands, I assume you also have Ryder.

So, you have Macrae, Dahlhaus, Ryder?

I was thinking if theres a year tu run a deep defence it would be 2017 with so many options.
Last year's draft also provided a plethora of rookie options, being "the deepest midfield draft of the past decade". You wouldn't given up too many midfield spots and miss out on critical cash generation.

Interested in the "given you have Sandi you have ryder" comment. If I go Sandi, i'll likely trade him out if he gets injured, rather than cover with ryder. Appreciated this is a season ruiner early!

Ruck cover has never worked for me, cover always gets injured lol tried it twice and agree with thee above, i'll just trade a ruck out or bring in dpp ruck cover when i need it.

It was given you have Sandi I assume you have ryder. There's nothing wrong with having sandi but no ryder, it's just a more risky approach. Personally I have Ryder not because I have Sandi, I think Ryder himself justifies a selection even without R/F DPP.

Tear it to bits guys I'm keen to hear all your thoughts

TAdams, Laird, Houli, Keefe, Scharenberg, Hampton, SShaw, Rice

Danger, Pendles, Parker, Treloar, Rocky, Fyfe, Beams, SPP, Myers, Gore, Freeman

Sandi, Giles, Strnadica

Dahl, Macrea, Ryder, WHE, Mccluggage, JThomas, ABlack, Ahearn

Thats a 13-2(sandi/giles)-15 setup

Rookies are place holder obviously but have tried to choose ones that should get games with a few higher priced ones in there also.

Yeah agree here! If Sandi injured in the first 4-5 rounds, i'll cut my losses with 2 trades to get him out. I'll consider Ryder if he's looking like a 90+ F6 target after his bye to help through the bye rounds. Ideally you would be able to move a 90 averaging Ryder to your F7 eventually. Although, he'll play a lot in the latter half of the season as u no doubt will have injuries.

No Ryder, Dahl/Macrae yes, Heeney at the minute given Mitchells departure, his performance in the finals, and Longmire's view of him. A colleague here wrote of why he would go with Sandi, was a sound argument. As for the backline there are so many choices that I may prefer to go with 3 keepers and Murphy and see what happens. If the midfield rookies present or elsewhere, changes structure a lot.
Just a few ideas thrown around for the moment. You are surely right cash generation is paramount.

It seems everyone has ruled a line through GAJ. Not in one team.
Is anyone contemplating starting with him.

I'd say most Ryder/Sandi owners would also be planning to trade out if injury was to hit, only they will be choosing between both fwds and rucks as their replacement. I couldn't bare to think who I would have to choose if my 308k ruckman went down early and i was forced to pick another , or restructure and use 2 trades.

Ryder is also very valuable to backup R1 on top of allowing the Sandilands selection. I don't have confidence in any ruck in the league to play 22 games a season. Grundy/Goldstein/Jacobs maybe 20-21, but it's becoming increasingly harder to be the sole ruckman of a team with the interchange changes.

I currently am expecting 20 games @ 115 for my R1, and as Rowsus mentioned last year regarding the value of having a R/F backup. Together with whoever I bring in as R2, I think there will be at least 3 games that Ryder. That's (115-75)x3=120 points at the very least, which equates to about an increase in real average by around 5.7 points assuming you do have a Mason Cox like cover.

On top of that I'm confident in Ryder to average 92+, which in itself justifies a forward selection considering his initial price. Thus, in essence, I believe Ryder will contribute to my team as a (92+5.7)=97.7 point forward, which has to be sufficient.
