Hi Rowsus, I have tried to avoid pestering you too much this season but now we are at the pointiest of ends and I am stuck so feel compelled to take advantage of your seemingly endless goodwill and humbly request your wisdom.

I have playing a GF (my first ever) in my main cash league against a player very similar in rank and with quite similar teams. I have one trade left and know that my opponent does not have any so want to make the most of this advantage. However, due to the lack of outs and carnage in general this week there are no obvious ways to maximise this trade. I have a measly $16.8k in the bank.

My team is:
Docherty, Shaw, Rance, Laird, Bartel and McVeigh (Tucker, Collins)
Dangerfield, Parker, Hannebery, Priddis, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Gray and Ward (Mathieson, Phillips, Trengove)
Gawn and Danger (Grimley)
Merrett, Martin, Zorko, Montagna, Wells and Dahlhaus (Petracca, Rose)

Uniques are:
Laird, Bartel, McVeigh, Ward, Gray, Montagna, Sidebottom and Dahlhaus
v
Watts, Selwood (J), Simpson, Franklin, Steven, Gibson, Howe and Boyd.

I considered trading Bartel as my weakest player but can only go to one of Pittard, McGovern, Haynes, Williams, Rampe (around the $448k mark).

I also considered that if I were to start well I could trade Ward to Steven (v BRI) to close off a potentially big point of difference, but that seems overly defensive.

My loophole options are limited due to Rose and Trengove not really allowing much leeway and Tucker not really offering much more than Bartel's floor. Grimley is the obvious C loophole option.

I think I will VC Danger and C Pendles. However, if Danger goes sub par and I feel the need to make up points I will C Gray (v GCS) or Montagna (v BRI) as the uniques I feel are most likely to go large.

Any advice on how to use that final trade or other possible strategies would be gratefully received and thanks for your wisdom throughout the season, although I don't post or ask questions too often, the advice you give has been invaluable in getting me into this uncharted territory.

Hi Brookesy,
feel free to pester me as much you as you want! :p
Firstly, I would set up your loophole options, and hang onto your trade for now.
Bartel to the Def bench with E on him, Collins onto the ground.
Priddis to the Mid bench with E on him, Trengove onto the ground.
Petracca with an E
Grimley on the ground, Goldstein (?) to bench with E on him.

He has 4 of his POD played by early on Saturday, and then the rest play Sunday. I'd hold my trade, and see what the position is after the early Saturday games. If Buddy is a late out, or Watts puts in a shocker, and you're holding a lead, you either don't trade, or as you suggested, go Ward to Steven to block his limited paths to get back into the game.
If you're behind, it really comes down to how far behind you are, how desperate your move should be.
I'm happy to help Saturday night, Sunday morning, if you need it, but for the moment, I'd hold that trade.
Good luck

Hey Row,
If things go the way I hope, then I will be able to trade in Riewoldt in case Buddy stinks it up today. I ask this- if i can get any forward playing after Buddy, is Riewoldt the best for POD/opposition value? Alternatively, is Boyd the best choice for a backman playing after Buddy, or should i be looking a bit more POD there?

Hey bb,
I wouldn't worry about looking for a bigger POD than Boyd. I like Boyd to score well tomorrow.
Good luck

Hi again Rowsus,

With Bartel's 80 and Laird's 82 I haven't started too well. My opponent has had good scores from Selwood and Simpson but Watts has equalised things somewhat. McVeigh is going well at 3 qtr time for me but Franklin looks like he will post a big one for my opponent. I have taken Danger's VC score, as will my opponent, I had to use Collins for the loophole, which means I have to keep Bartel's score.
It is 851 - 876 and in terms of uniques I have Gray and Ward to come tonight and then Sidebottom and Dahlhaus tomorrow v Steven, Howe, Gibson and Boyd.
I am definitely losing when you consider Franklin v McVeigh, so do you think I need to act now, with my options for using my trade to my advantage becoming increasingly limited? I am mainly thinking about my uniques and specifically Ward's recent from, an although there is no point going to Steven as I suggested yesterday, I could turn him into a Hodge, but that spanks of 'much of a muchness'.
I was really hoping that Goldy would be an out as that would maximise any advantage I had by having a trade.
What do you think? What would you do in my situation?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I would consider Sidebottom to Mitchell.
Sidebottom scores better when Collingwood win, and Mitchell, who might score 80, might score 150, would seem more likely to score 150 than Sidebottom.
As it is all on Sunday, it can be contemplated closer when you know tonight's scores.
It's a pity there wasn't a suitable replacement for Ward!

You are right on both counts Rowsus. Will see how I go tonight but unless Ward and Gray go ballistic, Sidebottom to Mitchell is the way forward.

Thanks again for your help, I really apprecaite it.

Gray and Ward did go ballistic and have tilted the balance of my tie!
I am now 1945 with uniques Montagna, Sidebottom and Dahlhaus v 1840 with Steven, Howe, Gibson and Boyd.
I hope Montagna and Dahlhaus can score well given their opponents. It seems that I have to chose who I think will score more between Sidebottom, Mitchell and Steven. Would you stick with the initial Mitchell trade?
Thanks again for your help and patience.

You hold a lead of 109, and he holds a player over you.
Unless Gibson goes on one of his twice a season freak games, your opponents only chance to put the game beyond your grasp is Steven. Steven is in poor form, but it is the near bottom team at Etihad. I'd be very tempted to go Sidebottom to Steven, this would leave him 3 Defs, trying to chase down your 109 + 2 M/F's. Just on description, you'd be favourite.
Good luck.

edit - it appears I might be 4 points out somewhere.

Thanks again for your help Rowsus, lost by 1 point in the end but would not have even got that close without your advice.

You have probably seen the table below in the

Mod Squad Player Analysis - Isaac Heeney ($434,400 FWD)

thread. If any of you want to see similar tables for players you are interested in, then post your requests here.
At this stage I might limit it to 20 tables, and only do the ones that seem relevant.
There will be no particular order, or date I get to your requests.
The tables contain size of ground information. I believe this is an underutilized stat. Probably 50% or more of players it has no affect on, but the ones that do get affected by ground size really should have you looking at their draws!

thanks for doing this thread again much appreciated

i was wondering what your opinion on jake lloyd is?

scored between 114 and 81 from round 20 to the grand final and 103 in the grand final which for his type of player is very good

priced at 460,200 as a back he is a lock for me and will hopefully be a top 6 back by the end of next season

Gawn would be very interesting to see for this one. We know he loves away teams but I wonder why?
