IN BETTER NEWS FOR THE DOGS...

VICE-CAPTAIN Marcus Bontempelli has been declared a certain starter for Sunday's clash with Port Adelaide in Ballarat.

Bontempelli has missed the past two weeks after emergency surgery to remove his appendix, but will suit up for his 100th game.

“Marcus has completed a full week of training following the removal of his appendix,” medical services manager Chris Bell told the Dogs' website.

“The surgeon has ticked off and he's feeling 100 per cent, so he'll come back into full training this week and we expect him to be available.”

Lin Jong is also set to return to full training after recovering from a collarbone injury, while Tory Dickson is also getting closer to a return from a hamstring injury.

Hopefully Bont will have recovered from any niggles as well as the appendix operation and can now come back better than ever

RYDER, JONAS NEAR RETURN

Port Adelaide is gearing up to have star ruckman Paddy Ryder and key defender Tom Jonas back for its Round 20 Showdown with the Crows.

Power coach Ken Hinkley has revealed the pair are also a chance for this Sunday’s game in Ballarat against the Western Bulldogs.

But the most likely scenario is they are given another week to ensure they are available for what shapes as a season-defining match against their arch-rivals on Saturday, August 4.

Port have blown an opportunity to consolidate a top-four spot with consecutive losses to Fremantle and Greater Western Sydney dropping them to fifth but Hinkley has no doubt his team will return to their best when All-Australian Ryder (hip) and Jonas (knee) are back in the team.

“We haven’t put a line through him (Ryder) totally for this week but the likelihood is he won’t play this week but we’d expect him to play the following week,” Hinkley told SEN.

“We certainly do rely a lot on Paddy. We’ve also had Jonas out the last couple of weeks as well.

“We’re not dissimilar to any team. We’re talking about the Giants now who are getting going and it’s no secret they’re starting to get their personnel back.

“We’re having our time where we’re without some key personnel out and that’s the key part of it, the type of personnel you’re missing.”

CROWS EXPECT SLOANE TO PLAY
ADELAIDE says a sore Rory Sloane should be fit to face the Demons this weekend.
Former Crows great Mark Ricciuto expressed concern over the star midfielder when he said he heard the rugged onballer report soreness in a foot.
Sloane has recently returned from a serious Lisfranc injury, but the Crows don't think there's been a recurrence.
“Sloaney obviously got his foot stepped on and he also got a knock to the shin so that caused him a little bit of discomfort but there’s nothing sinister behind either of those,” Crows high performance manager Matt Hass said.
“He’s trained already this week and he’ll train with the main group on Wednesday so everything is positive for Rory.”
Meanwhile emerging youngsters Tom Doedee and Lachlan Murphy will need to prove their fitness before facing Melboiurne at Adelaide Oval.
“Unfortunately we lost two guys to concussion pretty closely together in the third quarter,” Hass said.
“Obviously both entered the concussion protocol and Murph’s moved through that pretty easily and we expect him to train on Wednesday.
“Tommy’s been a little bit slower…we’re hopeful on both and it will just be a doctor’s decision later in the week.”

Dahl in almost 12k teams
Mine's one of them..... I started him too, probably one of the worst choices I’ve made in SuperCoach, would’ve probably got rid of him too but also started Billings and Hibbard and they were really pissing me off. No trades left so it’s off to the bench for Dahl. Think he’s on the never ever again list now.

Your not alone mate. Also started all three of them, and yeah it's resulted in my worst year/ranking in memory. Stupidly though I just know that at some stage over summer I will be contemplating the pros and cons of starting at least one of them again in 2019.

So true, same for me ... Hibberd and Billings in SC, Dahl in DT and AF.

I reckon Billings will be the one, particularly given he made so much sense in the pre season, and that I was confident dropping him could be exactly what was needed. I do struggle with picking someone who doesn't exert 100% effort though.

Also started Ryder, Matt Crouch, Josh Kelly and Liam Ryan who all got injured early and needed to be traded. Still, all in all I’m “only” ranked 15k which isn’t too shabby all things considered. That Hibbard to Yeo trade was one of the most satisfying SC trades I’ve ever done too, hasn’t hit a ton all year!
