How would we know mummy is actually gonna play round 3? Could be an expensive bench! Don’t forget Daws Simpson played very well before getting injured last year

Westhoff and Mummy > Gawn, rookie Fwd and Bank left for such a scenario.

I can see Mummy doing a hammy just prior to Round 3 and ruling him out for another month. Would be hard to recover after that.

It's a good point. Dealing with Mummy getting injured pre season is one thing, dealing with him simply not being selected is another. I do feel like we will know by round one, but it's certainly not riskless.

Good question.
Did GWS bring Mummy back to be their number one ruckman, or to be their back-up ruckman for Simpson?

Seems complicated. Who would you choose to lead your premiership aspirations?

2 years ago I would have picked Mummy, next year, hmmm, not sure. Simpson is handy and 33yo in 2019 Mumford retired for a reason.

Shane Mumford announces his retirement after 10 seasons with Geelong, Sydney and GWS.
"I think I've injured just about every part of my body throughout my career but the foot was the turning point," he said.
"I've had problems with my knees for many years and had the ankle reconstructed, now to injure the foot as well, I want to be able to run around with my kid in years to come.
"If I continued playing there was potential to do more damage and for me it's not worth the risk, I want to have a life after football as well.
"For me to play on and not be 100 per cent would be selfish, so I'd much rather finish up while I was still playing some good football."

Shane Mumford is seeking medical advice on his injured foot and degenerative knee before deciding whether to fulfil the final year of his contract at Greater Western Sydney.
"In his mind, he feels he can go again, the Giants seem to feel otherwise and they want to look after Shane as best they can. They feel he's been a great servant of the club for the period he's been there and feel like he has a lot to offer the Giants going forward outside of football," Mumford's manager, Anthony McConville said.
"It's looking at what those situations are and medical opinion speaks volumes as it always should. We're just waiting on that to come through."

i personally think grundy and goldy are going to be the top 2 ruckman. i am unsure about mummy. if he can stay healthy happy to use grundy/mummy/westhoff combo but if he is struggling again with injuries i will be looking at grundy goldy and darcy fort

I'm not so concerned about Mummy staying healthy (which is highly doubtful), but can his body perform to AFL standard now?

This is rather concerning. Mumford was my backup plan (to Kreuze) if I needed to save some R2 cash come R1 listings. Now I'm not so sure... Perhaps Longer? Or heck a named rookie. Love your post.

If Mummy looks the goods just trade him in Rd 5.
I don’t mind this approach, can have a look at your R2 for four weeks and if it looks like they’re not cutting the mustard Mummy potentially gives you a bail out option.

Don’t think basing your starting structure around a 32 year old with denenerative knees/ankles who’s had a year out of footy and is suspended for the first 2 weeks due to a coke bender is a great strategy.

Seems like the idea that Westhoff's scoring this year was primarily from extra ruck time is a bit of a myth.

Round 5: 26 hitouts, 106 supercoach score

R3: 15 hitouts 82 supercoach score

R18: 12 hitouts 82 supercoach score

R2: 11 hitouts, 111 supercoach score

R13: 11 hitouts 114 supercoach score

R19: 11 hitouts. 85 supercoach score

R12: 10 hitouts, 92 supercoach score

R14: 9 hitouts, 106 supercoach score

R22: 9 hitouts, 126 supercoach score

R7: 7 hitouts, 85 supercoach score

R9: 7 hitouts , 89 supercoach score

R15: 7 hitouts, 120 supercoach score

R16: 7 hitouts, 96 supercoach score

R20: 6 hitouts, 73 supercoach score

R21: 6 hitouts, 86 supercoach score

R1: 5 hitouts, 140 supercoach score

R4: 5 hitouts, 88 supercoach score

R17: 5 hitouts, 88 supercoach score

R23: 5 hitouts, 120 supercoach score

R6: 4 hitouts, 147 supercoach score

R11: 3 hitouts, 75 supercoach score

R8: 2 hitouts, 116 supercoach score

Ruck time may have helped him get a couple of points here or there and given him an extra avenue to scoring but it doesn't seem to explain most of his scores. In a lot of them you'd imaging he'd only have 0-3 hitouts to advantage.

I won't be picking him due to his scoring history, not because of the lack of ruck time.

Grundy definitely overpriced, but the alternatives just don't seem appealing at the moment. I think the best value combo is clearly Goldy and Kruezer but surely you'll need to trade one or both to Grundy and Gawn eventually if they both end up scoring about 10-20ppg more than those two?

If Longer looks reliable, he's still my preferred option as an R2 cash cow. Mummy in R5 offers a bail out if needed. . Otherwise, I'm thinking Grundy and Kreuzer at this stage with the aim to trade Krezuer to Gawn if needed down the track.

Gawn is unlikely for me unless Preuss gets injured or there's a strong indication that Preuss plays VFL (which I don't see as a likely scenario seeing as he would've gone over for more senior football opportunities).
