A lot of coaches are looking at Grundy for R1 but there seems to be a lot of uncertainty about R2.
Ideally I'd like to go set-and-forget but I could only really confidently do that with Grundy & Gawn, a combination I, and many others, find too expensive. The other main option is to look for a value R2 that you can turn into the second best Ruck (assuming Grundy is #1)
There are only three possible value R2 options that I can see, none of which I like:
1. Kruezer - probably too expensive to be a stepping stone ruck and a big injury risk
2. Mumford - good price but not available first two rounds and questions on form and fitness
3. Longer - cheap, but he's never shown much, unlikely to earn enough coin and could easily fall out of favour
Another option to consider is playing Westhoff at R2 for awhile and then use a forward stepping-stone player (Greene??... or elsewhere via DPP?) to upgrade to R2 and move Westhoff forward. I guess it would only be a good idea if you thought Westhoff would be a top 8 FWD.
What are other coaches thoughts on the R2 position?
