Only considering B.Smith up to Newman this week and only if I feel that Newman is a keeper.

JRoo will come good, I know this, but I already knew that his 2nd half of the year would be the better one. If he looks tired and unsettled again next week I may consider a sideways trade if I can identify a must have forward or Worpel/Fisher.
My theory is to stick clear of any player that has just had a baby. Lack of sleep just can't be good for performance!

I reckon I'm on for the double this week against all my better judgement. Already too far behind.

Good chance it will be Merrett down to Sheed to free up some cash for an upgrade somewhere. Will serve the double purpose of getting Merrett back to his best quickly :)

Wouldn't usually downgrade a premo to a mid-price unless there's a clear role change on both sides.

However, some think Zerrett is SIGNIFICANTLY underdone, and looked extremely sluggish yesterday. So perhaps to be sure, monitor Essendon channels this week with him in mind, and see if these worries are corroborated. Any suggestion from the club that he's on any 'program' might be all you need (y)

Watched the replay today. He is clearly underdone. The question is whether I can ride it out, and when he comes good. Last year he averaged about 90 in the first half of the season. If he does that I'll get to the byes down on cash and points. The cash saved helps me with other corrections. Either this week, or with 200K up my sleeve for Rd 3.

Probably stupid, but I love nothing more than a million early season trades and being left with none for finals!

As forecast in the Rd 1 review, I think I will fix Collins this week, trading to Parker via Moore. Moore will replace Collins at D5, Parker will sit on the bench with Burgess and allow me to start Drew, whom seems a much better starter.

Fortunately I think I have most other 'must have' rookies.

Fixing Collins this week will also free up 2 trades for next week, in the case I have to fix the couple of modpricers I have in Smith, Liber or Jacobs.

Thoughts on making a trade for structural reasons after Round 1?

Currently have Collins, Scrimshaw, J.Clark on field in DEF.
Sheed M7 & Walsh M8 in MID with Constable, B.Scott, Atkins on pine.

3 DEF rookies on field is a concern (Collins, Scrimshaw don't look like being good scorers), while Constable and B.Scott both scored well and look worthy of an on-field spot.

My question is - is it worth trading Brad Crouch to a premo DEF (via Duursma) to strengthen DEF and get one of Constable/Scott on field, or is it too early for a structural correction?

Cheers

I wasn't actually talking from a super coach perspective. I am talking about it from a guy watching the games perspective.
They were getting butchered in the middle and Heeney was just sitting up forward. I think the time is now to get Parker, Heeney and Mills working in together full time, slash JPK's time and let him sit forward more. Parker also rotates a bit to much forward for my liking.

Sure, it's ok to rest your mids forward but for God's sake, get your best/future midfield line up in their gelling.
+1 this.
I took on Mills as a mid price gamble that seemed winnable. Didn’t kill it last week but I’ll back him in for a bit.
Swans dominated hitouts but got slaughtered in CP and clearances. Suggests that Parker and JPK can’t do it on their own. This is the year that Heeney and Mills need to be put through their paces.

Gee.. a lot of talk about trading Danger after one game. If he hadn’t of missed those two easy shots at goal and he scored closer to 120. Would you still be looking at trading him out this week?

They are forgetting who we played! Collingwood are a top outfit, Danger will go huge against some lesser teams.

I do agree though that we shouldn't expect a 120-130 season but rather hope, Geelong seemed to be sharing/rotating much better than last year and we won, going to be a few less points for the old big dogs.

Out of those, Rocky maybe worth a punt.

Good post but i think players like Rockliff & Sheed would be great stepping-stones for the ultra premos like Macrae, Cripps, etc...if you didn't start them (that's me).

I too have Mills and went to game. The swans were more interested in having Hewitt and Papley in centre than Mills and Heeney forward seemed more structural. I’m trading Mills out as he is destined for a defensive player again.

I personally don't rate Mills, gets a lot of uncontested ball, but when he was played in the backline last year, was made accountable and his scoring dropped off. Again, it's a lottery where the coach plays him. Ditto for Heeny, would be great in the midfield, but there is a need for him to play forward structure wise. Good luck to all, I'm trying to steer clear of any Sydney players, with exception to Lloyd.

Sure, but Oliver, Danger etc ARE ultra promos. Trading down a premium to a player used as stepping stone to get a premium makes no sense.

Structure wise it seemed he was forward more to accomodate resting buddy in hindsight Heeney prob shoulda been used as a first forward to bring in instead of starting as once buddy is right and Reed gets more form Heeney will go to more centre bounces
