R: English, Clarke (Bines)

Think I will probably go Butters > Mumford via the magic of DPP

Shifts Bines forward for now and Clarke to the bench

Means I will have used 2 trades on my rucks already and I am no closer to Gawn and Grundy

Westhoff??‍♂️
I haven't seen any Westhoff's games, so only using stats to work out a reason why is he scoring so low.

So far this year he has scored 149, 47, 39 and 49 pts.
That's 3 scores below 50 and he has never scored 3 scores below 50 in his last 9 seasons that I checked. 2 at the most and that's over the whole season, not next to each other at the start of a season.

Based on the limited information that I have, I have come to the conclusion that Westhoff is carrying an injury, that is restricting him to perform at his optimum.

Has anybody got an explanation why he would score 3 below 50 pts scores in a row?

I’m far from an expert but I think it’s because he’s playing predominantly forward now. In previous years he spent a lot of time roaming or playing in the ruck but with Dixon out and Ryder/Lycettt fit, he’s been pretty much stuck in the forward line.

His disposals are down about 25% from last year and he’s yet to register a hitout after averaging over 8 last year. I don’t think there’s much to suggest this will change while everyone’s fit and Dixon’s not unfortunately and he’ll be pretty reliant on goals to score well, which does not seem to be the year for it if the way CD are scoring goals is anything to go by.

Interested to hear your thoughts @BigRuss

Thanks for that IDIG.
On FanFooty they said Westhoff started on the wing last game, so maybe he did, but moved forward later?
So, if Westhoff is playing as a key position forward and Dixon is not coming back soon, and I want to win my League Games, then what's the point in keeping him? (Actually, last I read was that Dixon is out indefinitely (indefinitely sounds like a long time).
I wonder if there is another Key Position Forward that will be coming in shortly (@BigRuss)?

I still can't think of a reason to keep him, hmmm?

Hoff has played 128 consecutive games, so I don't believe he's injured. I've got last week's game recorded, might have a quick look to see where he's been playing.

Todd Marshall is a tall and playing well in the reserves.

Todd Marshall will be back in the side this week. Kicked 4.2 in the reserves and was already pushing to come back in the team anyway. Shouldn’t have been dropped to begin with (was out of form but still would’ve provided so much more than a 5’2 Sam Gray as a target).

Almost certain he comes in this week (only doubt being it is our selection panel which is generally ****house) as we looked disgusting with Ryder + 5 smalls as a forward line on the weekend.

Should help Westhoff significantly.

suspect Marshall will be back very soon , not sure if they are totally happy with the Lycett/Ryder combo either

From memory Ryder and Lycett have been alternating in the forward line and kicking goals. Might be Port players are directing the ball to them rather than Hoff, may need a small adjustment. I'll call Ken tonight. ?

A glimmer of hope to keep Westhoff, He's cost me $113K already, ouch.

Todd Marshall is a 198cm 20yo, who played the first 2 games this season, then was dropped and judging by his low SC pts I suspect he wasn't playing well. All this seems to say to me that he is not AFL ready yet, hmmm.

I'm in a bit of a quandary this week - clearly have a number of holes but not sure if I should hold fire and wait for rookies to fatten up a little more, or make an upgrade now?

27 trades left, $199.6k free

There's a few spots I could improve in obviously but I'm mulling over R and FWD options in an effort to kick start a bit more cash gen and minimise leaking.

Should I consider my options or sit tight?

Head is telling me to lean towards the latter and let the rookies and mid-pricers fatten up more, but options like Mummy or Marshall and $150k (plus another $100-150k which would allow for a direct upgrade to premium elsewhere with a single trade, maybe even two) is tempting as a short term measure, from both a cash gen and points viewpoint.

Team is below:

DEF: Whitfield, Zac Williams, Brodie Smith, Darcy, Scrimshaw, Duursma (Collins, Clark)

MID: Cripps, Cogs, Angus Brayshaw, Sloane, Brouch, Libba, Walsh, Constable (Butters, Atkins Scott)

FWD: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Worpel, Drew, Parker (Setterfield, Burgess)

Is Goldy or Gawn worth the downgrade to Mumford for 200k and 300k respectively?

He has a -14 BE looks fit and healthy and has the following run of opponents/rucks:

Fremantle (Lobb) (Likely win)
Sydney (Sinclair) (just got owned by Gawn)
St Kilda (Marshall) (likely win and young player)
Hawthorn (McEvoy/Ceglar) (Likely win)
Carlton (Kruzuer) (likely win)
Gawn to Mummy is probably a similar style of punt I did with Fyfe/Balta to Libba/Marshall. If you can use that spare change to get you an extra keeper to take a rookie off the field, could be worth it. It's mighty risky though as you are trading out a definite keeper in Gawn.

I'd keep Goldy, he has Essendon this week and the TBC/Clarke combo is one of the weaker ruck combos going around.

I also think Mummy's score was boosted by some late random marks during the heavy scaling period. From memory, his score shot up from 86 odd to 110 very quickly in the last 3-4 or so minutes. I'm not sure his game was worth 110. He could also tire from missing a year. The easy ruck draw could be a good excuse to give him a rest too.

I personally think the risks of Mummy outweigh the reward here, unless you can get a Rocky/Marshall type with the spare change and they turn out to be a genuine top bracket premiums.

too good a player not to turn it around , think a lot of people in the next few weeks will be actually trading him in ?
I'm thinking the only way Westhoff will turn his poor scoring around is by not playing forward most of the game. And for him not to play forward a lot, there has to be a replacement to take his place. Dixon is injured for who knows how long and Marshall may not be AFL ready just yet?
