A little hard to see from that vision, although if he’s found guilty I hope he misses.

I was thinking over the weekend that it may make sense for fines and suspensions to be greater during the finals.
They showed it on channel 7 news as well from a different angle, looked like he definitely had his hand on his face.

I agree they should double fines / suspensions for finals, but it would rely on them actually getting these decisions correct for once.

Exactly. My sense is that they don’t like giving out suspensions during finals, like not suspending a Brownlow chance late in the season. Just encourages bad behavior in my view.

The fact that Greene gets sent to the tribunal for that but Nic Nat gets nothing for a choke slam into a fence is an absolute farce.

I am not sure I agree that penalties should be greater during finals - possibly fines but definitely not suspensions. If anything, I feel that the AFL takes a more lenient stand (by giving a fine instead of a suspension) during finals as they want to showcase the best players at that time to sell the game. Really, they should just be treating it like any other week when handing out sanctions. Missing a final would naturally be a bigger penalty anyway.

Maybe the bigger issue is getting the system for handing out penalties more robust. With some of the lesser misdemeanours that cop a week during the season, the AFL need to consider if they would make a player miss a final for the same offence. If not, then develop a better fine system that maybe hurts a players hip pocket more than the current system does. Yes, I believe players who earn more should be fined more!

Totally agree with on the fines, and that should be in all walks of life.
What’s the point of fining a multi-millionaire $120 for parking illegally, and fining some struggling schmo the same amount?
Set a minimum fine, then make it a product of their income. Fine Joe Schmo the $120, and fine the bank CEO $12,000!
It will never happen, but it should!

My point is a little different, but somewhat related.

The value of winning a final is greater than the value of winning a normal home and away game ... so if fines and suspensions are equal, you would expect to see more players breaking the rules during finals.

If you then decide not to actually enforce the rules, it’s likely to be worse again.
