Warner is now averaging 27.61 in England & Wales.

635 in 23 Innings , 7 x 50's.

Highest Score of 85 which was made at The Oval ?

maybe Warner has threatened to reveal what really went on at Newlands if he is dropped ?
More likely they are putting this series down to adjusting back to red ball cricket and relying on his brilliant record at home to be a big factor in the upcoming summer. If he doesn’t perform then, I’d say a big chance he will he dropped for good.

Langer is putting a lot of faith in him to come good (although Bancroft looked terrible in his 2 Tests ), his record in England even before this series was not that good , think the Pakistan tests are at the Gabba and Adelaide Oval (D/N) which both could be interesting.

Turns 33 next month , so you could be right , if we can actually find 2 decent openers.

Think there is 4 Rounds of Shield before the first Pakistan Test , up to Burns , Renshaw , Patterson , Pucovski etc and now Head & Khawaja to make a bucket load of runs and force their way in.

What is saving Warner is that there is no genuine alternative who could be picked with confidence to do better than him. His upside is greater than any of them, so they may as well stick with him until he either starts scoring or someone else can prove otherwise and force their way in. A bucket load of runs in the Shield will be a good start.

Not sure I necessarily agree with that , think Khawaja averages 80+ as a opener.

Don't really like "gifting" players Test caps when they are hopelessly out of form and devoid of all confidence.

Not like Warner has had stunning success in England in the past either.

Labuschagne and Smith may as well just stand with the square leg umpire and save some time before the inevitable happens.

Hope I am proven wrong and he does perform.

Hopefully Bancroft , Burns , Renshaw and any other opener do score a bucket load of runs in the first few Shield games.

Looks like we are back where we were and only 2 out of 6 spots are secure.

Thank god England have batted worse than us (aside from Stokes & Burns)

Love to see Timmy strap em on himself and open with Harris , slide Warner down to 5.

Best opening partnership for the series is 13 , can't do much worse , might be worth trying something different.

North Melb.
why are we bowling after winning the toss ? ???

doubts on Cummins & Hazlewood and Siddle comes in for Starc , even more confusing
Agree and throw in Mitch Marsh for Head which is probably the worst call of them all.

At least they have saved all their poor decisions for the game after the Ashes have been retained.

Maybe thinking Smudge will score a triple and we only need to bat once and Lyon with his busted finger will bowl them out on the last day

Yeah really odd decision to bowl given there was talk of the wicket being dry before the match. You’d think they would give Lyon the best chance for the best spinning conditions.

Two drops later and we’re definitely in for the long haul today.

Seems odd to drop Head. I understand they want another bowling option but there are other batsman in much worse form.
It absolutely baffles me that most of these batsmen who are not quite good enough to nail down a spot either don’t bother to, or can’t, get their bowling up to a decent level.

We have some of the best bowlers in the world and we still expect them to contribute runs.

Labuschagne is again the notable exception, it seems, and good on him for doing so.
