Fully 175 years after the first-ever international cricket match was played in New York, the United States is set to host its first recognised One-Day Internationals this week as the USA welcomes Papua New Guinea and Namibia to Lauderhill, Florida to contest the second of the 21 scheduled tri-lateral series that make up CWC League 2, the ICC's new top-tier Associates 50-over competition.

The biggest difference with the Tubby situation is we had a batting line up that could carry this type of lean trot. It is a different question as to whether it should but it certainly could. Unfortunately we don’t have that situation now.

Having said that I think Warner’s record in Australia will get him first crack at this summer along with the fact that there are no obvious alternatives.

I actually think Warner has endured a very bad run of luck in the way he is been getting out. Every mistake has been penalised with dismissal and other batsmen have been making plenty and managing to survive.

Bevan (3) had played 14 tests before the series started , replaced by Ponting (3) who had played 6 tests before the series

Langer (at that stage had played 8 Tests) & Slater (had played 34 Tests) were also part of the Squad

agree though looks like it is Warner's spot now until he retires, thought our batting stocks were improving but at this stage have confidence in only 2 of them at the moment at this level , hope the Pakis don't have too many swing bowlers otherwise the D/N Adelaide test could be very interesting

true, I think you said the other day we have to pick 11 players (and normally 6 batsmen) although @Ironhawk suggestion of Labuschagne & Smith + Paine and 8 bowlers is gaining more and more traction.

I guess until someone (anyone) scores a bucket load of runs and demands selection we stick with the incumbents.

the Khawaja situation could be interesting if they stick with Labuschagne at 3, where does Khawaja then bat for Queensland ? if he opens what does that do to Burns & Renshaw's Test chances ?

no idea how Pucovski's mental state is at the moment.

I guess the options outside of the current XI are:-

Bancroft, Burns, Khawaja, Renshaw
Handscomb, Head, Patterson , Pucovski

does S Marsh get another look ?

In fairness, it was such an odd selection that it’s probably reasonable to assume he’s still out there. Warnie might be a bit dusty from his 50th celebrations too.

Commentary from an arm chair critic.

Wade deserved his chance and has played some important innings this series which he should be proud of however he is not the answer to our middle order batting woes.

Harris has had an extended run now but can’t build an innings probably due to poor shot selection. Has a sound technique so still a prospect but needs to mature and that may not happen.

Bancroft looks terrible in the test matches and needs to straighten out his swing plain so it goes through the line of the ball.

M Marsh I don’t rate as a batsman so wouldn’t pick him in the top 6 particularly with Paine in the side. If he could consistently swing the ball like he did in the first innings then he could be picked as a specialist bowler who bats at 7 or 8. This may actually help his batting. I see no need to pick 5 specialist bowling options because one is always under bowled.

As much as I like and admire Siddle I would think he is playing his last test unless injury bites.

Patterson forced his way into the team last summer with runs against international attacks and then looked good in the 2 tests he played. His omission from Ashes squad was curious,

S Marsh - card has been marked and appropriately so.

Handscomb - please don’t go there again. He does not have the technique for international cricket.

Hopefully that’s a bit of a white lie re no thoughts of succession planning - surely it’s their job to be thinking about that.

Yeah, wasn't entirely serious, I know it's different conditions. It would be good to see some of the men bat like that occasionally though.

It would be interesting to see how much difference it would be and if they could even react to the extra speed.

I know Karen Rolton played Men's Grade Cricket in Adelaide.

The extra bounce that men generate would cause problems as they would never face anyone that can get it to lift off a length in the women’s game

Would argue that the fastest bowler in the women’s would be lucky to hit 115 let alone the 125 that was mentioned earlier. The speed guns a while back were very flawed but they seem to be getting a lot more accurate in the last couple years with less bugs and whatnot.
