My sense is that a lot of sides will be very cookie cutter in this format (vs AFL), given (1) a smaller pool of players to pick from, (2) even fewer players on each side liable to post decent scores (top order bats/regular bowlers) and (3) the DGW impact funneling us towards players from specific sides ... is it normally like this?
I still think there will be enough variances in teams depending on how many DWG players people start , could be anywhere between 7-11.
Some coaches will still want to start a Short or Stoinis (if they both go bang from the start will be very hard to bring in) , DreRuss if signed and fit could easily outscore most players in just a single game.
Richo , DC , Finch , S Marsh , NCN , Lamichhane , Maxy , Steyn , Morris , Qais could still be popular starters.
As nice as a DWG is , very easy to get "trapped" into picking a DWG player just for the sake of it , and as per last season many SWG players are still in the top scorers for the round .
I guess the secret is getting the right balance from the start.

A little exercise to see if you are being blinded by DGW players is to pick an ideal starting team if round 1 didn’t exist - eg if Round 2 was the opening round of the season. It is harder than you think because part of you can still be influenced by the knowledge in the back of your brain that you are wanting a particular player because of the round 1 DGW.
Then compare this team with the team you selected for Round 1. If you have more than 3 players different (or if price gaps between players are too large) it will be impossible to get to your Round 2 team. It makes you stop and think which round 1 players may not be essential.
My team keeps changing at the moment, but when I did this exercise the other day I had 6 players different between the two teams and I am now leaning towards not starting 11 DGW players in round 1, but I will most likely still have 9 or 10.

I just got to try and nail my starting team and trading plans for the first few rounds (and have some flexibility as well ) with a eye on the Stars & Renegades players which could be compromised by who is in the ODI and when they depart for India.
If I can be competitive for the first 3 weeks then attack Week 4-6 I will be very happy.
I need to use my experience from NBA and IPL and not be afraid to trade premiums in and out according to schedule and BE's.
I am almost happy with my team and will have 11 DWG players which will include Pierson and I will keep Morris even if he ends up playing 1 game , feel he will be a Top 10 player and is extremely value at his starting price.

Almost 16k posts is a lot to go through, but posts ~ 1.5k to 2.5k cover the first round. Interesting to read the joys and regrets of people’s starting teams as the round unfolds. Also a reminder that the success of players is not related to their price.

What are your thoughts on Ross and Heazlett? Shouldn't they bat No. 4 and given the DGW and their price be very appealing?

I'd have heat lineup as:
Banton
Bryant
Lynn
Renshaw
Cutting
Peirson
Laughlin
Lalor
Steketee
Swepson
Khan
They could potentially drop Swepson and have an extra batter in Heazlett and Renshaw could provide a few overs, but I think they have more than enough batting power with those top 6.
