George Bailey to be appointed as Greg Chappell's replacement on the selection panel.

Not sure if he can still play for Tasmania and the Hurricanes though anymore.

@Damion23 , any word he is retiring ?
A good choice I would have thought - good character, knows what’s required in the modern game, and would be familiar with a lot of the youngsters coming through.

Great choice

Comes across as a great thinker of the game.

Looks like his main role will be around the T20 team.

Down to him & Klinger , who looks like taking over as head coach at the Renegades.

Interesting talk of the opening Test next summer being a D/N against India , where then does the Afghanistan Test fit in (before at Perth or after the SCG Tests).

From what I have read the crowds and facilities the Gabba might be lucky to even host a Test.

@KLo30 how is the weather in Cairns at this time of year to host Afghanistan (or Darwin , Canberra , Hobart)

October and November are the driest months. Port Douglas is on stage 3 water restrictions, though some of that is to do with not having a big enough dam.

Bancroft & Pattinson released from the Test Squad , article on cricket.com.au explains why
https://www.cricket.com.au/news/aus...t-pakistan-day-night-adelaide-oval/2019-11-28

So basically it looks like Bancroft will be the fly-in concussion sub from Perth if required.

Is it just me, or is it all very well to say that you’ve got 36 hours to bring in a concussion substitute, but if the team gets bowled out while Bancroft is en route back from Perth, it’s not going to do us much good?!

In fairness to Neser (12th man and presumably last resort replacement batsman), his FC average is 25, which is only 4 less than Tim Paine.

How long until a side ends up trying to use a fielding coach, team official or the like as a concussion sub?

Exactly what I was thinking, but given you need like for like , you might need a whole new team on standby.

Obviously I am not a medical expert , but it could take 12-24 hours for the symptoms to appear , I think Smith was originally cleared to resume batting , then the next morning was tested again and failed.

Bangladesh recently had 2 concussion substitutes , 1 was a bowler that couldn't bowl as he replaced a batsmen , then another 2 guys were hit as well.

ICC might need to re-think this one and teams as well how they approach it.

eg Head is concussed , Bancroft is on 5 no but has to leave the game , does WA then get a replacement batsmen who can bat ?

Bangladesh almost had to 12th , 13th man were used , 14th man had to fly home for a bereavement then 2 others got hit while batting , had only 1 squad member left , although apparently Dhaka is only a 30 minute flight from Kolkata.

Exactly - and I think the protocol has only been in place since August!

This will definitely come to a head (no pun intended) at some point, only a matter of time.

I like that they seem to have considered the possibility of a tactical concussion substitute, but I think they could simply allow any substitute by default, with umpires rejecting any that they deem to be tactical, unfair etc.

Should be resuming in 5 after a rain delay. No overs lost, which means Aus could be facing a lot of fairly difficult bowling this evening.

Must be time for some spin soon, surely ... the three quicks have bowled 31 overs and will presumably do the vast bulk of the bowling once it gets dark.

Just saw the list of batsmen coming in next and Wade was listed before Head. That’s how it was in the last match, but I assumed that was a one-off to lift the run rate?
