where is he ? (Morris)
Morris has just finished his Mzansi Super League campaign in South Africa and is expected to line up in their second match – which also lands in Round 1.

It may be safe to leave out Morris from your starting side but who knows, he could produce a big score in the Thunder’s second game.

All thunder players are now locked.

Morris is not in the squad for Game 2 of Round 1 either.

Game 3 which is in Round 2 is the earliest he can play, unless I am mistaken o_O

Why are we looking to pick so many $42k players. Just because they are there? My recall is that the majority of these picks are not startable and limp along as a deadweight to $60k if they even hold their spot.

Are there exceptions I have forgotten? I don’t see this fantasy game as a pure “GnR” style game. You really need at least some of your bench to be startable.

Or is it just a by product of thinking Sams/Lynn types were a necessary spend and there’s just no cash left?

Agree.

I think its OK, to start one or two, but if one has to rely on them scoring consitently then one is in trouble.

I'm not saying don't start too many of them, but there is a good chance that they will become dead weight as you have stated.

Amen to that.
It's points on field that count.
Yes, you need to be able to afford the pricey players because they score the best - usually. But in my limited experience you can trade good player->good player to take advantage of the byes and still make money in the process.
For example: I've started with Lynn, Khawaja and Banton but there's a good chance all three will be traded to Adelaide players after this round.
I might not make money, I might lose money, but I'll have 3 x DGR players who have the potential to score well in rnd.s 1 and 3.

A little later: atm my "cheap" bench players are ones I trust will get games - L Livingstone and C Green of the Scorchers; W Agar and H Conway of the Strikers.
Although I shouldn't say cheap as only Green and Conway are $42K. But I think that they are comparatively cheap for what they might produce.

Very good question.

Theoretically you could start 16 x $ 125,000.00 and work your bench to your advantage by not needing to trade in and out players.

Obviously as you know you need "cheapies" to afford the expensive players so it is a balancing act.

I guess if a warm body presents at $ 42k you take it and then hope they can score well enough to make $$$ and have strong enough JS.

I got caught out last year with Edwards , Sutherland and 1 other.

I can see why people are starting With Agar and Short/White on the bench (the batting spot doesn't feature in my plans) but then you start to limit your onfield spending.

Certainly had a abundance of value players $ 125 k and less this season.

Hindsight would have been ideal to start Steketee & Swepson on the Bowlers bench and then started 2 cheap Striker bowlers onfield.

Doesn't seem too many viable $ 62.5 starters though this season (Heazlett a exception so far)

Out of curiosity who are your 5 bench players then ?

I feel like I'm running with a kind of similar philosophy but with the slight exception that I have a handful of players that I would be happy to start even in a SGW because their ceiling is just that good. On exposed form I don't think I can put Lynn in that category, but Khawaja is without question. The main other two that come to mind right now are Rashid and Shaun Marsh.

Nice post.

Has your onfield side suffered though this round spending that much on Livingstone ? I guess a lot will start Carey on the bench though.

I guess I prefer to have the players I want starting rather than having compromised picks.

Hopefully I don't need to rely on my bench that much.
