Thanks for your insight Darkie , also congrats on your leadership status to by the way. ( Well deserved )

Fyfe not a good pick early ?? , do you think will he be managed throughout the season , should i look at Neale , Dunkley or even Kelly who i had in my first team draft.
Will Whitfield and Williams both start Afl season round 1 , always have had Laird , Sicily and Lloyd etc not sure how to fit them in here. Williams finished the season well and was hoping that type of form would continue this season
Hayden Young any info on him and young Brander has been doing all the good things so far this pre season and will he start rd 1
Would you start Heeney over Whitfield or someone else in fwds

FT
Thanks mate. At this stage I don’t have a lot of info on some of the players you’ve mentioned - I suspect we’ll get more in the coming weeks as preseason activity ramps up, and in a lot of cases I’d defer to some of the club experts on this site.

A couple of things to mention:

- I don’t think Fyfe is a terrible pick, I just think he’s basically full priced vs history and he has reasonably significant injury which you don’t receive any real discount for. Also if you are taking a lot of injury/returning player risk elsewhere in your side, reducing it on guys like Fyfe could be wise. I think Neale is a good durable pick and a safe bet to be near the pointy end average-wise. There are other options, but someone like Kelly could be fairly similar to Fyfe.

- In general the GWS premiums that a lot of people are looking at haven’t been that durable. Personally I think info on GWS players has also been less frequent or maybe less accurate (could be the way the club approaches things, or could just be that there are fewer supporters to provide detailed info). I would rather avoid players that could be in a similar situation, especially if there are known injury issues historically. I suspect at least one of their premos will be a good pick, I’m just less confident in picking which one(s). Also I think Williams benefited from more mid time due to the other mid injuries last year.

Hope this helps for now!

I think running a 5 premo midfield, with grundy/gawn makes the rest of the team especially the rookies look a bit ordinary. Nearly half your salary cap is gone from these 7. I think there is a lot of value (money making) in rookie price players in the 150-200k mark. So running with that formation starves teams of those better rookies who will play. I think running a 4 premo midfield this year is the way to go. At some point through the season those premos will be much cheaper.
I'm running a 5 man Midfield and Gawndy and I can afford 5 more expensive rookies.

I'm finding it hard to use up the cap at the moment - currently rolling with 4 (including Dawson / Docherty) + 4 + Grawndy + 1 with $374k left in the kitty, but I do still have a bunch of the notable mid-pricers currently (Doodee, Roberton, S Hill, TJ, Steven, Smith).

If you drop one of the defensive mid pricers you can pick a 600k mid instead of a rookie at M5. That's how I've gone anyway, just feels a bit more solid.

Are there enough rookies in Defence to do this?

I haven't had a good look but anyone want to give me a leg up and tell me which line holds the rookies this season.

In my lists I have Hill (D/F), Young, Williamson and Gould as likely starters, with a bunch of others lincluding Brander (D/F), Starcevich (D/M) and maybe Silvani or McLennan as possibles. Then there's the ones that come from nowhere as well.

Because of Hill, more of a fallen 'veteran' (not quite a premo huh), I'd be happy to find 4 more Def rookies to fill the line.

Largely Guns and Rookies approach here. Like the look of this team. Dependent on rookies of course but I feel we will have some decent options down back.

Very solid set of pic and not the first to be light in defence...

Be interesting to see if the price variance is still higher in other lines... suggesting better value presevation in defence...

Having ur ideal starting team is great but it’s very much pending named rookie prices. Lots of teams I’ve seen here have a typical spread of premiums, mid pricers (If any) and high and low price rookies. My question is what happens if only a few of the more expensive rookies get names rd one? Who is ur downgrade to free up cash? Mine currently is Heeney (f3) to J Steven(F3).

For me with will be a complete reshuffle from 15 to 14 premos. But the rookies will show, they always do.

Good team, not much to say apart from waiting to see what rookies are named.

Potentially 14 keepers so well done.

Taking a break from the Big Bash thread, thought I would come in here :)

Laird, Houston D/M , Docherty , Hill D/F , Young , Starcevich D/M (Williamson , Brander D/F)

Macrae, Neale, Fyfe, Cripps, Oliver, Rowell, Anderson , Bonar F/M (Pickett + 2)

Grundy, Gawn (Comben F/R)

Dawson D/F , Tom J Lynch , Steven F/M , D Smith F/M , Cockatoo F/M , Cameron F/R (King, Rankine)

slightly over Budget, not sure if the 5 rookie defenders will be named Round 1 and not likely to start Anderson & Bonar

1-2-5
5-0-6
2-0-1
0-4-4

= 8-6-16 fingers crossed that I could have 14 keepers

any thoughts at this early stage would be greatly appreciated

Nice team, I like how you have DPP's across all lines.

Pretty high risk/reward with the mid-pricers but I suppose if they don't work then they act as good stepping stones > premos, which IMO get's you those upgrades earlier than waiting for the cows to moo.

What makes me a little nervous though is the high amount of players coming back from LTI's:
Docherty
Hill
Steven
Smith
Cockatoo
There's obviously value to be had, but I'm on a 'wait n see' for a few of those and currently have 2, maybe 3 in my team. Sometimes you gotta risk for the biskit though.
