IMO those 600k+ players are priced that way for a reason. They were the highest scorers last season and often have been in past seasons as well. Identifying those players that will stay amongst the highest scorers is one of the keys to having a good team. The old cliché " Past performance is no indication of future performance" is true but it is the best and sometimes the only indicator we have got. It might be flawed but we use it anyway.

One season I tried a strategy of picking several 100-105 ave mids that I thought would either go up and be keepers or at worst hold their price and then I could easily trade up to the premiums that showed themselves to be the must haves that season. Failed miserably. I think the volatility of players scoring in that group makes it hard to find those kinds of players pre season. I don't think the strategy is flawed but it was just too hard to apply.

For the record my current team has 5 premium keepers and 4 of them are over 600k. I can find a reason to query just about every one of the players in the 500-600k bracket but I have no doubt several of them are going to have a big season. It is just hard to see that at the start of the year when you build your team.

I find Neale at 27% quite low.
Might have to reconsider Neale, high ceiling and a high floor. I don't know why, but I felt he tapered off in the 2nd half of the year, looking at his scores though that wasn't the case. Maybe he's a bit like like Treloar/Mitchell and doesn't get tagged as much as the more impactful players.

He did come off in second half, although 190 in last game may skew the averages.

+120 6 vs 4
<100 2 vs 3

starting getting more tags once he had some good scores. Teams were use to tagging Zorko so they applied the same pressure, then when Neale being new got off the chain the attention went to him. Notable Lyons and Zorko did equally as well 2H19.

The irony is one of Neale's worst scores on a tag came in a big Brisbane win. Beauty about Brisbane midfield is a very even inside smaller size team, not large bulls. Neale always consistent, may drift back 5 ppg this season.

Think it was more the middle third he slowed up in, rds 16 - 23 were OK in terms of overall average (but with more score spread, had the big 190 and 151 scores to go with four scores around the 85-100-odd mark that wouldn't have floated the boat of anyone going the VC/C).
Edit: Hadn't seen GFB had already covered it, my post a bit superfluous. But the graph has pretty colours, so there is that.

Thanks in advance for any/all feedback ...

No GRAY!!!!!!! Brought him in as 23rd premium to swap with Hawkins last year, disaster. whether body or age, don't think he gets the mid minutes needed and valuable up forward.

Lots of 300-470 speculative picks, best to reduce down to two at best. Greenwood, Lynch, Petracca, Smith all look the better odds of making cut off for their line. bar is higher in mids so Walsh remains the most challenging of them all.

Version 1.4 - 3k left over - 15 keepers best case scenario - ROOKIES ARE PLACEHOLDERS

Any feedback is appreciated - Will sit on this until Marsh series commences

Laird - Safe as houses. value at 525k - 95+ avg
Sicily - Really good value - Frost coming in helps - 95+ avg
Docherty - Too good to refuse. Hope he gets a good run at it - 90+ avg
Roberton - Planning to play in Marsh series - Hoping he can recpature 2017 form 92 avg - if no good Doedee comes in - 90+ avg

Macrae - Lockity locked - 125+ avg incoming
Cripps - Bull. Locked. 115 avg
Danger - See above 120 avg
Bont - Captain, Josh Bruce arrival hopefully more mid time, rolls royce - whats not to like? Dunkley/Titch could replace him - 115 avg
Oliver - Lockity locked at that price. No double shoulder surgery this time - 115 avg

Grundy - What can I say? Captain option most weeks - 125 avg
Gawn - See above. 125 avg

Dusty - Love watching him in full flight - can chuck the VC on him aswell. 110 avg
Heeney - Too good to pass up at 510k - 95 is his floor - ceiling can be 100-110 if all goes well. 100 avg
Steven - Huge value at 360k for potential 90-95 avg.
Smith - See above

Yes, they are pretty colours:cool:

Guess I'll go with my gut feel then, which is not to start him, those low scores have me a bit wary, same as Cripps.

I can do either one of them at D5 with Cockatoo & Brander down to 123k rookies - otherwise its a Bont to Cogs or Heeney to Wingard type of deal to get both and I don't think its worth it at this stage

Exactly , rookies are all conjecture and speculation at this stage until Round 1 teams are announced.

Everything looks all good at this stage.

Have been sitting on this squad for awhile now.
Risky, thin backline, but other lines are well balanced.
Still have a few X v Y scenarios to sort through, even thinking Kelly to Hanners, then Bonar to T Lynch.
Will sort it out later when we see some of the roles different players are given through the practise games.

D Houston D/M, J Dawson D/M, S Docherty, D Roberton, S Hill D/F, B Starcevich D/M.
( T Bianco D/M, W Gould. )

J Macrae, N Fyfe, J Kelly, P Cripps, P Dangerfield, M Rowell, A Bonar M/F, M Pickett.
( N Mchenry, H Bennell, T Rivers M/D. )

B Grundy, N Naitanui. ( C Comben R/F. )

L Whitfield F/M, D Martin F/M, J Steven F/M, D Smith F/M, N Cockatoo F/M, I Rankine.
( J Brander F/D, M King. )

Plenty of DPP's to throw the team around with flexability.
Gawn is the obvious omission, hoping for a slow start from the great man.
4.7k remaining.

Great to see another ‘Houston at D1’ team!

Also had Houston D1 yesterday! May come back in, had enough cash to start Sicily as D1 instead.

Must admit I'm warming to the notion of using Bennell as my early FD and putting Cameron into the Ruck bench position ... will wait another month to make that decision ...
