Must admit I'm warming to the notion of using Bennell as my early FD and putting Cameron into the Ruck bench position ... will wait another month to make that decision ...
Comben could still be a starter for R1 as well...been great during the preseason and intra club games...talk of McKernan about him from keen watchers.

doedee, roberton down back
smith, steven up front

wouldnt need a lot to go right for that to be a serious value combo

what % of teams will go in with these four?
Two - Four of Doedee / Roberton / Hill / Young down back looks to be quite common ...
Two - Four of Lynch / Smith / Stevens / Hill up forward also looks to be quite common ...

That also doesn't really include some of the other expensive rookie or mid priced players either ...

Bennell (ESS) doesn't have favourable Capt loop games with Grundy though.

EDIT: Sorry, Bennell is at MEL, I have to alter my notes

Thoughts? a bit skinny down back, could do with a 3rd premo. CH=full]15506[/ATTACH] View attachment 15507
Interesting seeing Mitchell Lewis in your forward line. Not saying he is a bad selection, I hope he has a really good year and I think he will take a bit of a step up, but I think you may be able to find better value for that spot.

Nice one...!

If we get a R3 rookie, I was thinking that a D/F or D/M FD may be the play as it seems the basement def rookies are not emerging as yet. A link with SHill would be handy for loopholing.

I like this team and have bookmarked it in case I need to drop one super quickly for whatever reason. (y)

Version 1.4 - 3k left over - 15 keepers best case scenario - ROOKIES ARE PLACEHOLDERS

Any feedback is appreciated - Will sit on this until Marsh series commences

Laird - Safe as houses. value at 525k - 95+ avg
Sicily - Really good value - Frost coming in helps - 95+ avg
Docherty - Too good to refuse. Hope he gets a good run at it - 90+ avg
Roberton - Planning to play in Marsh series - Hoping he can recpature 2017 form 92 avg - if no good Doedee comes in - 90+ avg

Macrae - Lockity locked - 125+ avg incoming
Cripps - Bull. Locked. 115 avg
Danger - See above 120 avg
Bont - Captain, Josh Bruce arrival hopefully more mid time, rolls royce - whats not to like? Dunkley/Titch could replace him - 115 avg
Oliver - Lockity locked at that price. No double shoulder surgery this time - 115 avg

Grundy - What can I say? Captain option most weeks - 125 avg
Gawn - See above. 125 avg

Dusty - Love watching him in full flight - can chuck the VC on him aswell. 110 avg
Heeney - Too good to pass up at 510k - 95 is his floor - ceiling can be 100-110 if all goes well. 100 avg
Steven - Huge value at 360k for potential 90-95 avg.
Smith - See above

I'm expecting big things from him, firstly more games from Clarko, clarity regarding his role up forward. Will be the 3rd tall behind Gunston and Patton, thus having an easier run at it with the 2 foils taking the top defenders. He's had shoulder surgery in the off-season and has recently started full contact drills. He's quite a good mark and kicked 20 goals from 12 games. I can see a lot of improvement in him. Obviously in for now, but as we know with JLT coming up, things change very quickly.

On a side note, I heard, the Hawks are changing their game style slightly, any news on that?

Only Roberton and Smith for me atm. JSteven interests me but a bit hesitant with comments he may be eased into the season. Perhaps an upgrade target. Not really interested in Doedee at this stage.

Lots of PODs, lots of mid pricers, lots of high priced “rookies” and lots of Carlton players!

Personally I’d look closely at each player that ticks at least one of the above boxes and assess whether you’re really comfortable with them.

If you are, go for it, otherwise I’d try to head towards something that’s a bit more GnR.

One thing I would definitely try to do is get your bench rookies down to base price or very close to it. With very rare exceptions, you want your dollars on field scoring you points.

Personally I’d do this by upgrading mid pricers first, and then any potentially marginal premiums to top line ones. It also seems to repeat each year that a lot of the best cash generators are bottom priced rookies (or experienced players coming off injuries) rather than dearer rookies per se. [I’m actually not familiar with some of the names you’ve picked so maybe you’ve loaded up on the cheap returning players.]

Best of luck.

Thanks Darkie, early days yet with JLT to come, appreciate your thoughts. I normally try to avoid or minimise Blues players, but I think this is the year to pick them, until they lose both JLT games ?.

I'm happy to take Newnes in mids, Martin up forward. I have confidence that the tweaked game plan for this year will see the Blues run the ball out of defence easier via SPS, Newman, Simmo and Doc. I'm a bit cautious with Doc and his knee atm, will assess in due course. I know I need to bring in a Lloyd and Williams in defence, a Fyfe, Danger and Neale in mids, I don't want to rely too much on injured premiums returning at a discounted price.
