No rookies on field?

You mean no first year players?

You sound very set on structure before we’ve seen any pre season and the rookies. You’ll keep an open mind on structure?
Always ... I generally use the same starting structure each year and look to see if I can fill it first .... think I have enough options to go with it this year.

Correct no first year players .... keep forgetting that Rankine has yet to make his senior debut. Not that I will line up that way though and this includes two that are borderline to play yet ....

I use the pre season to mostly find my rookies ....

Thanks do you think by not going top 2 popular fwd options in Whitfield and dusty is a good call to make that different in that line .
who knows. Read Whitfield is still recovering still from whatever he got done over the break. Will that set him back a bit?
Thoughts around suggest Dusty a bit of a slow starter and tends to take it easy till after the byes or untill the pointy end of season but looking at the draw he has a few good early games to score well.
Go with the gut mate

Not going to talk you out of the structure BC, you obviously have reasons.

Why Draper over Comben? May cost you a trade down the track if you want Draper as a cow, but harder to take advantage of early Grundy VCs and you lose the flex if say Ceglar becomes a backup ruck option.
Yeh r3 will be a donut for sure. Cheers

It's great to see all the teams posted to help get an idea of what's possible, but really, this can only be cemented after we know what and where the R1 Rookies are. What's more interesting for me is to see who's occupying positions D4, F5, R2 & F4 in your favourite iteration. I view these positions as a good starting platform whilst we gauge and hopefully slot in our 'preferred' Rookies as they are announced.

Here's where I'm at with my latest version:
D4 S Hill
M5 Treloar
R2 Gawn
F4 D Smith
***I have 5 x $180k+ Rookies built into this version with only 2 being definite starters.
D4 Docherty
M5 Oliver
R2 Max
F4 Hill

Hit me with it. I like it rough.
Like the team, also had a similar M6 several days back but did it with Gawn. Unfortunately it robbed my team of playable rookies that I expect will get a game.

Gould can be in the backline, for one of those two rookies who may not get a game.

Bennell and Mead could be replaced by others that will come, McHenry and Flanders are two, latter more expensive.

Hosie and Cavarra could at least be replaced by Georgiades who looks likely.

Whilst many may say it is too early to worry around rookies, I think there is enough info to start having best guesses. Going too cheap will lead you to need to cut a premium and domino effect on others. Rather cut expensive rookies then upgrade from there.

Jacobs - 3 out of 4 seasons in the 80's, 31 years old. Whilst I am not on the Jack Steven bandwagon, rather a mid price who may not be a keeper but can make you $120-150k.

Agree with rookies. Its not to early to predict.
Id Like bonar in this side tbh. even if he doesnt play i can flip him to any rookie and get change to tinker with other rookies

Our preseason is about to ramp up towards the end of this week with the commencement of the Marsh Community Series.

Stay strong to your chosen Players and don't let your many weeks of research goes out the window via these 'experimental' games. Pay particular attention to how teams line up for the 2nd game as this is likely to be the 'best' indicator of their probable R1 teams. Be flexible with your overall structure as the available R1 Rookies will dictate this.

This is one of the best period of the season for me, likely because we still have 'unlimited' trades...:)

You have a few injured players there. Might struggle to get a full team for R1.

Solid. I believe Hurn has been managed through preseason.

Nice team, probably shouldn't comment on the rookies as it's still early days, but Cockatoo looks unlikely for round 1, would rather start a young KPF on the bench (King).

Lloyd had a drop in his output lat last year, will that trend continue? Or does it mean he's a little underpriced?
Hurn is getting on and I think there are better 'value' options available in Def.

JMO, and I'm certainly no guru.

Four of your MID Rookies are either currently injured and/or unlikely for R1: Hibberd, Cockatoo, Bennell, Mead
Draper and a FD seems a bit overkill, Xerri/Comben seems to be the preferred VC loop in R3.
Sound structure and platform to build from otherwise.

Solid G&R base and it's hard to tell at this stage with rookies but historically going three-deep in forwards leaves you exposed to some very low scores. Wait and see who shows up but I would be ready to cut one of the midfield guns to get an extra one (or even two) forward premos/speculative picks.

Thoughts on updated team.
I like that you're going for it with the speculative picks but I think you need to adopt a bit more age discrimination into your thinking. Houli, Walters and Gibbs stand out to me, though I would sweat bullets if my team was put before the equal opportunity tribunal.
EDIT I would also give the same advice as I did above, to be wary of going three-deep in forward line and be ready to drop one of your mid premos for a forward. Gibbs to Jack Steven seems a pretty good swap to me, if it were my team.
