forgot about Hosie , throw in Cavarra and Sturt as well
Okay. There's lots of forward rookies! I just don't think many will score well.

I'm not confident in any of the $123k and under mids or defenders getting a game. Gould and Pickett are the only obvious ready made players and I haven't heard much about their pre-season. Gould might be eating lots of pies? I have Maginess, Robertson, McHenry and Rivers at the moment. I doubt any of them get a game in round one. Oh well, rookies will appear.

Whitfield + Martin + Heeney + $ 150k + $ 150k + $ 150k = $ 2.1 million approx

for 102 + 98 + 95 + 55 + 55 + 55 = 460

let's see

Ceglar + Wingard + Lynch + Steven + Smith + Bonar = roughly $ 2.2

say 85 + 85 + 85 + 85 + 85 + 65 = 490 (those 5 could all go 90+ as well or maybe not)

King & Rankine on the bench , may not need rookies if they are not named Round 1 , not the end of the world

Disclaimer : additions done in my head without looking at exact prices
I'm easily convinced. Been thinking a max of 1 forward rookie on field for a while now may be the way to go. Just need to pick the right mid pricers...

That's correct until time for upgrading when you're 55, 55, 55 become 95, 95, 95 and the 460 becomes 620. Is there the ability in the team to generate enough cash to upgrade those MP's? Or do you look at combining a couple of them to jump on a fallen premo or breakout player that has identified themselves 7-8 rounds in (eg Dunkley) at the same time as picking a rookie on the bubble? That last question is the one that I'm seriously looking at. It still requires 2 trades but gives you the opportunity of having a look, plus maintaining a better point scoring team in the meantime.

hahaha now you are being greedy and you want them to score well also ?

Pickett onfield then apart from Bytel , McHenry , Simpson the rest seem to be $ 117,300.00 or lower and may or may not play.

Read heaps on this Robertson but can't see how he cracks the Lions side.

Rivers looks likely.

My defence is thin , haven't factored in any of Gould & McLennan at all.

I watched a few SANFL games last season and can't say Gould did anything to stand out and say I am going be a star.

Time will tell , just lock in preferred Rucks & Mids + Carlton & Richmond players for the first game then study the team lists and make adjustments as necessary.

Every year people say the rookies will come , might be fun one year if we only get 8-10 that are viable and see how people react.

Cameron/King/Rankine at F6-8 would be nice.

I am bullish on Lynch (Richmond) and Devon Smith and have narrowed the mid pricers to about a list of 15-20 ? surely it can't be that hard.

Will likely start Heeney and just wait on Dustin Martin so hoping for 1-2-5 (confident in Hill , Rankine & King (St Kilda)

To be honest I am at a loss with defender rookies so may just go with Doedee & Roberton and hope they can score well enough.

Hayden Young looks like a likely starter, but is he worthwhile over Roberton and Doedee who are 80 & 100k dearer? Williamson and Brander might get a crack with both of them likely to play on the wing.

95 - 55 = 40

40 x 3 = 120

so 460 becomes 580

2nd example you are upgrading Bonar as well.

Now you are getting way to complicated and complex for me ? , was just trying to point out if the rookies aren't their Round 1 you could conceivably go 5 mid pricers + 1 rookie instead of 3 premiums + 3 rookies.

Fully realise the odds are stacked against all the mid pricers paying off and you may need to "sideways" trade them all of get stuck with them for the season.

Even with 3 rookie onfield upgrades to be done , you are probably relying on F7 & F8 initially , then hoping a second wave comes through for 2 further downgrade options as well.

Bytel was supposed to be off the pace in the internal trial. Mchenry played for the b's. Robertson didn't play (maybe being managed due to his shoulder), McLennan was supposed to be pretty poor in his trial. Gould wacked on 10-15 kg after celebrating Glenelg's grand final win last year. I have Ash in my team at the moment, but he seems expensive. Supercoach could be fun this year!

Pretty much every one of my teams has been built around Hill , Young , Starcevich , Williamson & Brander until the rookie picture becomes clearer , I suspect only 2 of them will be named Round 1.

Hence why I find it a lot easier to factor in Doedee & Roberton so I can make adjustments down.

My ruck and mids (except for bench) fingers crossed are all locked.

I was surprised to see Bytel even mentioned , thought he had a second back surgery before Xmas.

Saints have about 10 new/returning players this season so not sure how he fits in.

Gould already looked like Humphrey Bear , another 10-15 kgs have fun in the NEAFL.

Ash is a good placeholder for his price , if that cheapies turn up.

SuperCoach is always fun ? or so they say.

Got no idea what I'm running with down back ....

Lots of FWD options but not sure which one I want on field .... trying to avoid any rookies / first year players ...

- Rankine in a poor team and might be starved of opportunities but they did start last year OK'ish before dropping off ..
- Georigiades playing for a team whose primary FWD entry last year was just to bomb it in there ...
- King ... not sure he will even last three games to get a price rise ...
- Bonar / Cockatoo ... nope for me ...
- Flanders / Mahony ... got my eye on them but not sure ..

So I'm still looking for one last on field semi reliable player .... preferably with a M/F link !!

Think the other boys have summed it up pretty well, Is definitely in the mix for Round 1 pending fitness and really needs to be getting games this year. Was spotted the other week just walking laps, but nothing more has been said so I assume it was very minor.

Can play everywhere (FWD, Wing, DEF). Not quite sure where he'll settle, played most of his final year before being drafted as a Defender but swinging up forward at times. Both he and Oscar Allen can play at either end so I can see these two swinging between both positions as needed. Schofield and JK are both winding up in the next year or so, so there is potentially a spot at either end for him long term.

As for this year It seems he's being groomed for a defensive post, Possibly battling Will Schofield for that 3rd tall defender spot, or insurance if Gov and Barrass fail to come up for round 1.

Not sure he's going to be the highest scoring rookie, and might find himself in and out of the team as we are in full premiership mode this year, but he is supremely talented and there's a lot of excitement around the club about him. . It's encouraging to hear our Captain say he's the most likely player to breakout, and also the great words from another leader in Gaff.

Watch the Marsh Cup games where hopefully he'll be unleashed.

He had one really dominant game as a defender in the WAFL and many more games where he was just good.

It will be interesting to see his role in this years Wizard Cup.

Haha....I used to be ok at math.

There's certainly merit in both approaches and we shouldn't be averse to any scenario that get's you to the finish line.

I guess it all comes down to how many rookies are named Round 1 , which will determine our final structures and teams , just these next 31 days are going to drag on and on and on.

At least the Marsh series will give us a chance to see how some of them go.

I might have to distract myself with some IPL planning & research.

Maybe I'm a bit defensive, but's easy to be dismissive @Herbie66 - Gould's current body shape and weight is quite different from the image you conjure up. I seem to recall a rookie West Coast defender arriving at his first pre-season after a Bali pigout. He apparently was not even able to beat the coaches over 2K. Jez turned out OK when he realised what was required.

It's fair to say that even now Gov doesn't look he's been carved out of stone... ;)

Let's hope everything falls into place and he has a successful AFL career then.

I am sure the Swans staff know what needs to be done.

Watched him play many games for the bays( Glenelg) last year, absolutely filthy the Crows didn’t pick him up, he will be a gun defender.

no rookies in the forward line team

Sicily, Houston, Docherty , Doedee, Roberton, Young + 2 = 3 Upgrades required

Cripps, Danger, Bont, Whitfield, Oliver , Rowell , McHenry, Pickett + 3 = 3 Upgrades Required

Grundy, Goldy / Comben

Lynch, Acres, Brayshaw, Steven, Smith , Hill + 2 = 1 Upgrade Required

then depending on how many sideways trades of the 5 mid pricers in the forward line you may or not need

or start 3 players like West, Towsnend, Bonar, Stengle etc etc price range instead probably allows Martin & Heeny as starters

30 days until teams are known, plenty of options out there, dont be afraid to look at something out of the ordinary and unconventional to start
