I think Ceglar has claims as a starting F3 or F4. His role in the past has been fwd/ruck. The Hawks have Patton as the big target up front now. McEvoy is playing CHB in pre season practice games leaving Ceglar was the No 1 ruck. In addition Ceglar will only play against one of the top 5 rucks from last season in his first 7 rounds so his draw is pretty good. Could ave mid 90's which would be okay in your forward line but price is a bit tricky.
Will be keeping an eye on him so decided to look at what "potential" cover he could provide coupled with a NTH R/F for Grundy, Gawn and Goldy ....

- Using game start times and assuming only a last minute out ....
- Only went as far as round 19 as had seen enough by then ....
- Unfortunately Gawn plays in the last game during round 1 ....
- No real need for a summary ... I like graphical views ....

Could that 900k saving give you an extra 80 odd points elsewhere? It's really no different to starting rookies on other lines and going through the whole upgrade process.
Exactly right.

2nd rule is follow the rookies and pick them where they are named , 1st rule is to pick your Rucks though.

Rankine - > Martin probably gives you 50
Georgiades - > Heeney probably gives you 50

If Jackson is named Round 1 he shouldn't be treated any differently to Rowell , Anderson & Bonar etc as a prospective cash cow

Seeing teams with 13/14 premiums going Grundy & Gawn now , without them maybe you can start 17.

Macrae , Neale , Fyfe etc as C/VC etc etc

EDIT: A DPP ruck in the forward line needs to be a playing ruck and also needs to justify the $ spent otherwise the expensive benchwarmer with JS like Naismith ($255k) almost makes more sense... who out of Ryder, Ceglar, Ladhams or Patton is a compelling selection???

My comments about Ceglar were based on him making his own case as a fwd. The value of having any ruck playing forward with ruck cover in mind depends on your rookies because all you will be doing is moving him to the ruck position if he is to be used as cover and then putting a fwd rookie on the park in his place. If you had a cheap ruck on the bench that was playing probably easier to go with that.

Last year I started with Lobb as a value R/F and for a while before he got injured it worked out ok (should’ve gone Lycett)... if I thought Ceglar had enough upside I’d be more than happy to do it again but Ceglars numbers don’t really inspire me tbh

I've looked at his numbers and if you take away the last 3 games I wouldn't even consider him ...

In the back of my mind I still don't consider him the No 1 ruck ...

Naismith does make more sense, no different to playing someone like Bonar (albeit a bit more expensive)

I'd like to know what's the fallback if Grundy/Gawn or whoever miss a few games? Trade out then trade back in? They have been extremely reliable over the last 2 seasons but I think that the law of averages is going to catch up.

Isn't Naismith coming off an injury concern ... might have it wrong in my notes though !!

Naismith , Pittonet / Jackson

could suddenly solve onfield rookie problems ?
essentially got me

Grundy - > Naismith
Gawn - > Pittonet
Comben - > Jackson
Bonar - > Martin
Cameron - > Heeney , Rankine to bench

and $ 120k , so not as exciting as I initially thought

That is probably a fair point. A trade out and in isn't that crazy. The year @Impromptu won IIRC he traded Sandi out and then back in but that may have been around the byes not an injury (happy to be corrected on that). Same principle. Also probably depends on how long the injury has said ruck out of action.

If Naismith was classified as a R/F then I'd look at him .... but since that isn't the case have decided to move on ..

I guess it all hinges on him having a change of role from Fwd/part time ruck to owning that No 1 ruck spot. It probably is the crunch season for him. It is his to take if he steps up. If he is not that no 1 ruck and is sharing it with someone then unlikely he can lift his scoring to the level required to be considered.

In the back of my mind is that he just got his contract extension (I believe) .... one of my red flags ....

You mean as in "I have my contract I can go into cruise mode"
Sort of .. seen it happen plenty of times ... don't want to put forward some names but could ...

I follow more sports than the AFL and it is actually quite a common occurrence IMO ...

- Most players know full well that the next contract might be the best they ever receive IMO ...
- Generally but not always involve moving or threatening to move from one club to another ...
- Player managers pump them up beyond their current capabilities ... incentive based IMO ..

- Actually can't wait until a USA based waiver system comes in place ... IMO that'll sort some players out skills wise ...
- Either you perform or are gone in the blink of an eye ... supposed goal kickers initially come to mind but also applies to other positions ...

Comment on NN in an unrelated article which seems to have been missed around the twitter verse

https://www.afl.com.au/news/374379

Ruckman Nic Naitanui, meanwhile, will play limited minutes.

"Nic will be probably what you've seen over the last few years when he's been available," Vozzo said.

"His game time is lower than the rest of our crew, so he will be on a similar program, this year and probably through the rest of his career."
