How many years do GEE have left in the "window" ....

- Quite a few IMO as they still have some considerable depth ...
- Sure GAJ is great as that Mid / Fwd connection but his days are literally numbered ...
- But ... they still have decent depth players that can't get a gig ....

Imagine if Trealor improved his efficiency by only 5%. Can he do this? Becomes very very tempting with Grundy spoon feeding him. Pendles has to be used sparingly in the mids one would think so Trealor becomes the main man. Go pies!
Treloar improved his disposal efficiency last year but I thought but CD were rather generous in some games when it came to a lot of his scrappy disposals in contested situations being counted as effective.

His kicking was a little better overall and was probably as good as we're ever going to see it, with the exception of his shots on goal (both on the run and set shots), which is one area he can still improve in.

I also personally don't think he will end up being anywhere near as much in and under at stoppages this year - now that he apparently has his burst speed back we'll likely end up using him a bit more more on the outside again, which will eat into his contested possession and clearance numbers.

when did Curnow & Murphy go back into the midfield ? might have something to do with that (or maybe not)
No I think his form just dropped off from there - was a little hobbled in the latter portion of the season as well and didn't look like his usual self.

He really needs someone else in the midfield to step up and shoulder some of the load in and under because he can't keep taking the battering he has been - his ceiling might be a bit lower as a result, but hopefully his floor will come up as well...

Picking premo mids was getting too hard, so I swapped Gawn to an R/F and now I have 6 .

Problem solved?
I’m also struggling with the hair splitting mids. Feeling very cosy on Macrae, Danger, Cripps, Oliver but my 5th premium has been a constant merry-go-round of options.

Mostly Bont/Kelly/Fyfe/Dunkley. Very hard to split them IMO

Just worry about the tag. Nothing against the pick really, but I do think he’s fully priced. The other names I’ve mentioned above are exciting me more. How’s your midfield shaping up?
Yeah, that’s fair re: Neale.

You have a merry-go-round of one, I have a merry-go-round of five. That’s how it’s going.

I’m finding it so hard to pick as there appears to be so many good options. The rookies that I end up picking will likely dictate the total spend on my midfield premiums as I’m feeling more settled in defence and forward.

Agreed, feels much harder than previous years to settle on midfield premiums given we’re so spoilt for choice. Hoping the Marsh gives us a little more clarity.

I’ve pulled Danger out of my team as he is turning 30 this year. This age historically continues the downward spiral on scoring ( maybe Boak last year was an exception). I’m sold now on picking a younger Uber prem from 22-26 yrs of age who I traject will be on an upward spiral. That also discounts Fyfe for me as well. If you look deep enough there are some real premium gems in that bracket. Anyway food for thought.
It's tough knowing where the end is for Danger being a lock in the midfield position. Personally, I don't believe the end is in 2020 for a multitude of reasons (and in no particular order):
- Tim Kelly leaving puts a huge hole in their midfield rotations
- Danger's durability is incredible
- Danger finished second in the 2019 Brownlow
- Jelwood is turning 32 this year and Ablett is turning 36
- There is a huge age gap in Geelong's list for midfielders - Danger, Jelwood, Guthrie, Duncan, Steven, Menagola vs Narkle, Parfitt, Constable, Atkins
- The young midfielders haven't overtaken Danger's production, quality, consistency
- The jury's still out if the young midfielders will reach the heights of Geelong's premier class midfield group of Danger, Gaz, Jelwood, Duncan, Telly
- Cooper Stephans looks like the heir apparent but was drafted in 2019 and is only turning 19
- Geelong haven't accomplished anything of note given they didn't win the GF after finishing minor premiers
- Geelong's win:lose finals record is bad
- Chris Scott has an ageing list of stars and needs to prove something these next 1-2 years
- JJ in the forward line helps add a tall marking body
- Danger will rest more forward and kick snags because no one can match up on him
- Dangerfield wants a premiership

I currently have him as my M5 and hoping for 21/115 season, which he has done the past 5 consecutive seasons.

Agreed, more so to see who looks fit.

I think it's telling that GWS have allowed Kelly to play in next Friday nights charity game. He must be cherry ripe, something we haven't seen from Kelly in a few years now.

A lot of reasons to just lock him in! I’m on board too and think he’ll start for me as long as he doesnt pick up a niggle in the preseason games

My worry with Danger is who is going share the tag with him at least with Kelly playing so well last year he drew the tag at times which released Danger and depending on what Selwoods role is he may be no help with the tag either. I can’t see the young blokes Narkle, Constable, Parfitt and Simpson being tagged. All this makes me wonder what affect on Dangers scoring will be. We should know after round one with Geelong playing GWS first up. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
My thoughts are to not let it concern you. He has been one of the best players in the comp for the last decade. Very hard to tag. If anything, GWS in round 1 is a bonus as the best tagger in the game wont be a league match. Danger has proved time and time again that when the heat is on him he lifts. More attention has just as much chance to increase his scoring.

Same argument as most years but the games played is the reason I wont be starting Fyfe this year. Averages 6 missed games per year. Even if you take out his 2 big injury years he still averages 4 missed games each year. I can't go into the season paying $650k for someone who i can pencil in for 4 missed games. I did start him last year but that's because he was priced much more attractively.

I like your positivity. I’m in Danger it is. I better try and make a few games and barrack a bit harder

Forward or mid? Star Giant set for mixed minutes in 2020
February 21, 2020

STEPHEN Coniglio will split his time between the midfield and forward as Greater Western Sydney ponders how to manage another three off-contract first-round onballers this year.

The Giants' centre bounce depth will reach new heights in 2020 with a full complement to pick from in round one, minus former co-captain Callan Ward who hasn't played since round four last year.

Given the rise of Tim Taranto, improvement of Jacob Hopper and return to full fitness of Josh Kelly, the Giants will explore their new skipper more forward of centre.

Coniglio was used predominantly as a midfielder in his 15 games last season but kicked 24 goals in 2018 due to a stacked Giants midfield that included Ward and Dylan Shiel (now Essendon).

"Coniglio's more your 50-50 or 60-40 because when he plays forward, we love what we see with him," coach Leon Cameron told AFL.com.au.
"He kicks goals, he's competitive, he wins one-on-ones and he's dangerous. His speed and his point of difference when he goes through the midfield is first class as well."

Upon his return, Ward will mix his time as an inside and outside midfielder, while Toby Greene will return mostly forward despite playing as an onballer for parts of 2019.

Taranto and tagger Matt de Boer will also be trialled for larger periods in attack during the Marsh Community Series.

With the addition of Academy bull Tom Green via last year's NAB AFL Draft, plus first-rounders Jye Caldwell, Jackson Hately and Xavier O'Hallaron, Cameron will be flushed for options.

That first-round trio join Richmond's Riley Collier-Dawkins as the only players from the top-26 of the 2018 NAB AFL Draft yet to recommit beyond their initial two-year contracts.

Given the Giants' history – they've lost at least two midfielders every year since 2013 – other clubs will begin to circle should Caldwell (Victoria), Hately (SA) and the uncapped O'Hallaron (Victoria) be starved of opportunity.

"Where our strong point might be the midfield, Richmond's might be the small forwards, or there could be a club a with a lot of running half-backs," Cameron said.
"If you've got talent on your list, there's going to be a jam somewhere.

"Having O'Hallaron, Caldwell, Hateley and Green over the last two drafts, one or two are going to push the current crop and there will be a spot for one of them.

"Then you explore other positions when they're ready. You don't just explore other positions when there's not an opportunity because you want to give them the opportunity because if they can go past the person in front of them, well that's competitiveness, that's what you want.

"Jackson Hateley can be an inside mid, but he's done equally as much work as an outside winger.

"Xavier O'Hallaron has done the same and Caldwell we've just kept inside because we don't think it's ready to explore yet. Green we'll just explore inside because I want him to show us what he's got."

Caldwell received high praise before he'd played an AFL game from former co-captain Phil Davis as the player he'd offer a 10-year contract to first at the Giants.

Harry Perryman – who has been slated to play a big role on a wing this season – is another out-of-contract Giant along with big fish Jeremy Cameron and Zac Williams.

Makes it very easy to draw a line through Cogs as a MID 5/6 option after that... :(
