Comment on NN in an unrelated article which seems to have been missed around the twitter verse

https://www.afl.com.au/news/374379

Ruckman Nic Naitanui, meanwhile, will play limited minutes.

"Nic will be probably what you've seen over the last few years when he's been available," Vozzo said.

"His game time is lower than the rest of our crew, so he will be on a similar program, this year and probably through the rest of his career."
Probably doesn't surprise. WCE would rather have him for limited minutes for 3 or 4 more years than bigger minutes for two years. Especially since they have persisted with him for several tough years.

Is there new infomration on Gawn out there I might have missed?

I'm seeing what looks to be a trend on Gawnless sides and was just worried I may have missed something.
Thread has taken off as of late hasnt it?!

As a risk taker in the ruck line in previous years (no Gawndy last season), I must resist opening this thread too often as it's giving me some unsavoury ideas for ruck options :cautious::p

I love the optimism of the thread and it does prompt me to look deeper into fringe rucks but gee, my investigative skills must be somewhat lacking because I've seen little to prick interest in any other options outside of GG. If Gawn misses a few then that's differentl, although some options being floated I'd rather take a donut round 1 then bring them into my starting squad :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

This is why we love the game, we all see it differently.

He has 3 distinct threats in the first 5 games. He hasn't played NicNat since 2015 in his beakout year where he scored a 66 and NicNat often stops opposition ruckmen scoring well. He has St Kilda who look like having Marshall and Ryder sharing the ruck duties. Last year Lycett and Ryder did a job on him in round 1. He also has Witts who takes points away from Gawn because of his height and size like Sandi used to.

That's a good summary on Gawn's first few weeks but what I struggle with is positives for the options should you not go with Gawn?

Guys like Gawn, Grundy, and top tier mids like Macrae, Neale, Cripps etc I don't tend to get overly concerned about match-ups at any point in the season. He also has GWS with a 155 pt average last 3, Fremantle with a 151 average last 2 and GCS, Richmond and Essendon again with big numbers. Great, round 1 you might drop a couple of points but for the sake of the next 5 out of 6 weeks I'd rather take the additional points on offer and VC/C option he presents.

We tend to talk ourselves into seeing the things we want to see that's all, and maybe I'm doing the same.

I think that's exactly what I've been doing with NicNat and Naismith. Finally coming to my senses and realising the easiest way to get Gawn in there is simply to start with him

Gawn's 155 ave vs GWS doesn't really apply, I'd be more inclined to look at his record vs Adelaide. Sauce gonna murder him.
Based on what?

The last time they met, Jacobs was a couple of years younger and close to prime and Gawn went 130 and Sauce 63 with a 66 ho to 36 ratio.

Prior to that Gawn 114 SC and 49 HO and Sauce 42 sc and 21 HO

Round 17 2017 was the only time I can see of late that Sauce had his number if you could call it that as that was injury struggle year for Gawn.

The year before, 2016, Gawn again had Jacobs measure so not sure where this murdering is coming from.

Despite the appearance of Paddy Rider, no love for Marshall who can actually kick goals?
Personally I put a line through anyone who is not sole ruck. The only time I can recall someone going at elite level for 22 games with a good second ruck alongside them is probably Cox/Naitanui (I may be missing some).

If Marshall was forward eligible it could be a different story, although I suspect he’s still overpriced.

Goldy comes to mind though ... think they have previously tried Daw at times .....

- Daw looks decent as a Defender who can provide a chop out if required ....
- Xerri looks like a decent prospect (early days) that can go Forward and also provide that chop out ...

Will be interesting to see how they line up round 1 ... can see a spot for all three ...

It’s interesting you mention that, Goldy looks probably the safest of the next line of premiums, albeit not without some risk, especially if Xerri looks good.

It looks like Preuss and Daw have struggled for game count, the most they’ve played between the two is 15 in 2017 and 18 in 2018 (the latter just Daw, with under 5 hit outs per game). Goldy went at 95 and 101.

Reilly O'Brien would be the one I'd go to I think if Gawn wasn't going to get up. ROB had less than 70% gametime today and nearly cracked the ton in a game they were convincingly beaten in. Last year I think he was pushing close to 85% tog so he's numbers will be up there again.

Need early warning for this as:

- ROB plays Sat arvo ...
- Gawn plays the last game of the round ... extreme backup could be NicNat ...

Not sure why Gawn would miss round 1 if he's playing the next Marsh game which he mentioned today. Of course he has to play the next Marsh game, good chance they don't risk him.
Well your post insinuated that Gawn might not get up ... hence my response of the possible last minute out option ..

ROB should have scored 150 vs a first game teenager and a skinny CHF. His huge scores last year were Vs second rate rucks. He's not elite.

Yeah sorry I meant if there were any further setbacks, everything I’ve read has him lining up round 1.
No one said ROB was elite @Agent 47 only Grundy and Gawn fit this category in the rucks IMO, Goldy possibly but then daylight IMO.
