I’m not seeing it either. I just remember how disappointing expecting 27/28 yo players to breakout has been in the past (*cough* Lumumba, Tuohy).
Not an apt comparison; late bloomer, new club, much higher in the pecking order at new club. Those are the 'real' reasons for consideration, whether he delivers is another thing.

My latest side.

Young is a placeholder until we know more about the reason he's not been around so far. Other rookies can be adjusted as needed.
If you predict all of Zerk-Thatcher, Young, Williamson, Butts, Bonar, Brander, Max King and Budarick to outscore Pickett then this structure is the way to go.

Im happy with this so far. Think i have the right rookies on and off field. Hope Roberton has a great healthy year but if he doesnt make it to round 1 I've already decided what to do with his downgrade money.

Its pretty cookie cutter but i feel I've limited the unknown risks. As they say "you cant win an f1 race at the first corner but you can sure lose it".
Cheers lads thoughts welcome

Looks good to me. Historically I think this has been a good way to structure - having a more expensive cash cow at D4 and/or F4 when you go shallow in those lines, to mitigate risk.

Lumumba and Tuohy also had similar levels of interest and preseason scoring after moving to a new club....! People also thought they would be “late bloomers” with more opportunity at a new club.

Definitely don't but people are putting too much stock on direct scoring comparisons. Pickett is there to make money which he can do on the bench.

I strongly disagree with that. In my opinion getting your structure right so that the best scoring rookies are on ground is one of the most important parts of the game, and has much more of an effect on your team's score in the first 12 rounds than the quality of your premiums. If other teams are getting 80s on field from Pickett while you are juggling 30s from Butts and King, you are running the race on one leg.

My Current Structure has 6 in the Middle with Pickett on the Bench for cover to RD13. Will interchange with Stephens through the loophole when available.?

Food for thought - I had a far more conservative loss estimation of 15 ppg which was by no means ideal, but a manageable sacrifice.

Blakely a fair POD in teams we have seen here - what are your thoughts there? How did you split Bont from Dunks and Macrae? I’m struggling there
Yeah Blakely is a super POD. Has trained with the mids all preseason, has a chance to do a Petracca this round and no longer be under the radar. Not locked for me but I’m quite keen and would be very disappointed if I didn’t start him and he did finally put a premium season together.

Bont/Macrae over Dunks is very easy for me. Dunk does not have a proven elite scoring history. From my understanding, the names of players that improved their average by 20ppg to beyond 110+ for the first time and then further improved their average the following season, include Gary Ablett and Dane Swan. Oliver is there too but he’s been an exception to every rule as well. More often than not a player regresses after a breakout season for whatever reason (injury, role change, opposition coach analysis). Dunkley is a wait and see. Maybe @Connoisseur can get a proper list together of how players fared following an improvement of 20ppg to their average to breakout to 110+

I wanted to be the first to post the B.Williams R2 side
I quite like each of those defensive options you have individually (especially if Blakely does play inside mid) but I just can't have all, let alone 3 of them in my team. Don't like the chances of them all working out. If you did go down that path, which of Lloyd, Hurn, Houli, Z Williams, C Daniel, Stewart, Ryan, Laird, Dawson do you think you would aim to have fill the final two spots?

When I say 'late bloomer' I meant that Greenwood only started playing AFL when he was 24, much later than others. I'm not counting on his 'late bloom' as such as he hasn't really set an ESP and can still break out from hereon due to his introduction.

With regards to opportunity at a new club, I think that Greenwood's outlook is much clearer than either Lumumba & Tuohy were.

That’s definitely a fair point.

There’s not a lot of players to use as precedents for those that started their careers at 24 (maybe none at all).

It could work but I think @freowho made the point that at his price, the upside seems too low. Wait and see for me as a result

Yeah that’s a problem I am well aware of with this side. It has 15 keepers but in reality probably likely you would need to trade one out. I think I can turn ie Blakely/Lynch into Gawn and a rookie and bring BWilliams into defence for a more standard structure.
