What's with the fascination of playing Hill as a Forward ? (sure I understand the link with Brander , if indeed he is selected) , just appears their is a lot more "cheaper" rookie forward options possibly available Round 1 than defender ones , so wouldn't it make more sense to start him as a defender.

I to was on trac bandwagon before last Saturday my reasoning was that he was coming into his 5th? year and contract year and I thought what a combo :D and the 5th year is when the tall mids usually go bang

but I was put off by rowsus's thoughts on him when I asked him about a month a go but still stuck with him

but last saturday (even for a practise match)reaffirmed my suspicions

At the moment I don't really like any of the cheap forward options. And not really many of the cheap defence options. At the moment I have Hill tied to a couple in defence (Lokosius and a very cheap rookie) and will shuffle as required for team balance.

@Ben's Beasts what was the logic for the early Trac choice -> solely increased mid-time? what sort of disposal count are we expecting him to jump to (perhaps there's a better way to describe the 'cause' of a points jump). I dunno I'm not sold yet - to be clear not your job to sell me on him either :) - I'm just a bit surprised by the massive jump in ownership here.

Was he a high possession winner as a junior? (anyone please jump in here)

I'm really interested to hear what people's expectations are - are you picking him to go 100+ (that sounds like an AA year to me from a player like him)
Yes the increased mid time was certainly the main factor.

The fact he is a lot leaner and was suggested that he now has a tank are the other couple of factors. In the past he was a bit too stocky and would blow up in the second half of matches. I had read pre-season reports that he was looking extremely fit and was a standout at just about every training session.

I’m not across his junior numbers so perhaps a stats guru can help out there.

We obviously only have one pre-season game to go by and obviously he isn’t going to get close to 188 SC when the real stuff starts. What I really liked was how often he got the ball, the amount of contested possessions and how cleanly he was handling the ball - rarely a fumble.

The other thing which has confirmed his increased tank was the fact he was able to run out the game in the midfield and dominate for four quarters.

But to anybody reading this, please don’t pick him, he will totally revert back to his old ways ?

Im trying to push Hill out to F6 atm but suspect a rookie will jump up and demand selection which will end with Hill at F5

So on the basis that most people want some bang for their buck with mid pricers then it is hard to go past Steven and Smith. I mean even if you had Petracca and he did get to 100 I would rather have Polony Smith at 95 given the respective start prices. For those that have both Steven and Smith where do they go if neither of them work out? Down to a rookie? Very few options at the moment that would appear to show up in similar price ranges to those two.

I am just getting more and more confused to be honest.

Of all the $ 123k and cheaper rookies the only one I believe guaranteed to get picked looks to be Pickett.

As for the rest , no one apperas to be jumping out screaming to be picked and reading Best 22 articles doesn't appear to many going to be selected (just have to wait I guess).

In the meantime I guess we have to pick bench players and hope they are named at least.

I've heard he was a big SC scorer as a junior but not sure of his numbers.

The reason he is tentatively in my side is that he looks to be fitter and thinner and we are hearing a lot of news out of the club saying he's at the point now where he is fit enough to play midfield. To me he's always looked explosive at stoppages and able to dominate the midfield but just hasn't looked fit enough to run through their consistently and have an impact or had the opportunity to do so. If he's fitter you'd think he'd be able to do this consistently if he's given the opportunity. It might have taken him some time to fully recover from the ACL.

I think many people were on him too early in his career and he wasn't ready yet. He still has to prove himself in the 2nd game and there are still concerns over role as Goodwin said he'd play more midfield and that he's built himself up to play midfield but said his role would be week to week depending on the opponent.

@Dimmawit Christian Petracca's U18 averages in his draft year are as follows:

U18 Championships - 25 disposals, 10 contested possessions, 4 tackles, 0.6 goals, 125 SuperCoach points
TAC Cup - 25 disposals, 16 contested possessions, 4 tackles, 2.1 goals, 138 SuperCoach points
Legend - thank you

Unfortunately Pickett is 157.8k. At 120 I'd have him in my team, but at nearly 160 I worry about his role.

I think King has the best job security, but again, the role is a worry.

Really hope some come up in the next couple of weeks.

When you say "don't work out" what do you mean? Do you mean injured and/or both injured in the same week?

Or just scoring under expectations?

Or are you referring to where Hill should start?

I don't want to answer a question you aren't asking :)

Either they under score or get injured. Basically anything that requires you to move them on. Where do you go. Down grade to rookie? Sideways trade to someone else maybe on the up? If you have one mid price failure you can either carry them or if someone is shown to be on the rise and within reach cash wise you can trade. But multiple mid pricers (eg 4 fwds) often means you need to deal with most likely two fails. And mid pricers at the lower end of the scale eg Smith and Stevens are the hardest to fix.
