Seems like that there is an army of these M/F or D/M guys at Freo vying for mid time, which one of them is actually going to score premium level or will they just all share it around?

Acres, Cerra, Brayshaw, Blakely, Aish. Bewley as well. Then the more established Walters to come in.
It matters not. Fyfe will just come in round 1 and hog the ball as usual lol. Just ask his old buddy Neale ;)

353k DEF. Seemed to be in the CBs and stoppages at times, I can’t lie, he’s found himself onto my watchlist. :ROFLMAO:

I also must admit that I didn’t realize he plays for Freo now
Aish scoring like that and even getting a decent amount of contested possessions is just too much for me. I'm not convinced Teague was the right appointment but surely Carlton can't be that bad- or can they?

Aish probably hasn't played a game like that since the under 18s, and even then his contested ball numbers were pretty bad. I thought he was lucky to still be on an afl list, he's been such a nothing player since his reasonably promising first season in an admittedly terrible Brisbane side. Averaged 71 over 21 games in 2014 and has only average over 60 in 3/5 seasons since, hasn't played more than 15 games in a season since either. Four sc tons, best of 144 and 120 (both in 2014) :ROFLMAO: I know I'm an aggrieved Lions fan, but he's just so bad.

Are we locking in Green over Stephens/Serong considering the Taranto injury?
Just got home found out about his injury....had Taranto as my F4. First thought was bummer, and recover well bro. Second thought was will Green be his replacement.....highly likely you would think.

I am secretly hoping that Geelong is prepared to pounce on a good young GWS mid at the end of the year, We are in a good position now with plenty of picks and GWS can't hold all that young talent, Taranto, Hopper, Hately, Greene, Caldwell.
Not a secret any more :)
I'm sure they are having a real good look at that, as many other clubs are.

New Dockers hand Longmuir first win over patchy Blues
February 29, 2020

FREMANTLE'S trade period haggling looks set to deliver immediate results, with midfield recruits Blake Acres and James Aish starring in Saturday's Marsh Community Series win against Carlton.

The bargain pair, who cost the Dockers little in last year's NAB AFL Trade Period, provided an injection of composure and toughness at David Grays Arena, playing leading midfield roles as Fremantle won 13.12 (90) to 5.13 (43).

Former Collingwood midfielder Aish was a regular in the centre square and had a brilliant first half, finishing with 24 possessions and six clearances and moving to half-back in the fourth quarter.

Acres, who crossed from St Kilda as part of the Bradley Hill trade, also rotated between wing and inside midfield roles, providing more proof of his excellent pre-season and racking up a team-high 31 possessions, six clearances and six inside 50s.

With stars Nat Fyfe and Michael Walters missing from the engine room and watching from the stands, the duo stepped up and led a young midfield that benefited from solid performances from Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra.

Draftee Caleb Serong continued his charge for a round one debut, overcoming a quiet start to showcase his combination of toughness and skill in the midfield, winning seven possessions and four clearances in the third quarter.

There were positives all over the field for the Dockers, who unveiled a new game style under coach Justin Longmuir, using the ball with purpose and taking 106 uncontested marks to Carlton's 58.

Tall forward Rory Lobb appears primed for a strong season and motored home to be the Dockers' best, controlling the air with 13 marks (five contested) and racking up 23 possessions and six inside 50s.
He led the ruck in the second half after No.1 big man Sean Darcy was put on ice as the Dockers manage his minutes, kicking a late goal.

Defender Griffin Logue was the beacon in defence, standing up in the absence of injured duo Alex Pearce and Joel Hamling and pairing with former tall forward Brennan Cox.

While beaten convincingly, Carlton was able to put minutes into returning co-captain Sam Docherty, who had 19 possessions and 10 rebounds in his first match after back-to-back knee reconstructions.

Recruit Jack Martin was also unveiled, playing one half for nine possessions and a goal, with forward/ruckman Tom De Koning providing excitement with a nice snap in the second quarter.

With star midfielder Patrick Cripps missing, sidekick Sam Walsh (28 and five clearances) stepped up to lead the young onballers and was the Blues' best contributor, while Zac Fisher (27 and four) showed he will continue his steep rise.

While February football is about building form and fitness with an eye to round one, the Blues ran out the game disappointingly, conceding five unanswered goals in the final term.

NEW FACES
Fremantle:
Caleb Serong had a quiet start but worked his way into the game. He kicked well and provided a highlight when he won a contested ball, spun out of trouble, and delivered by hands in a moment that showcased his many strengths. Sam Sturt played as a deep forward out of goalsquare, leading up well but not seeing a lot of the footy, kicking one goal. Draftee Michael Frederick didn't feature in the first half and had four touches on a wing. Second-year tall Tobe Watson took a nice defensive pack mark in the second quarter.

Carlton:
Former Sun Jack Martin was exciting in the first half, showing speed across half-forward, winning the hard ball and tackling with intent. He was managed thereafter as he builds to round one. SSP hopefuls Callum Moore and Ryan Sturgess saw little ball, combining for five touches in limited game time.

FANTASY WATCH
Andrew Brayshaw (MID/FWD)
did what Fantasy coaches hoped he would, playing as a full-time midfielder and tackling relentlessly. He had 19 possessions, boosting his score with a game-high seven tackles.

Blake Acres (MID/FWD) is another Docker locked in for a midfield role but available as a forward in AFL Fantasy. He ran all day to rack up 31 possessions and is a bargain buy, set to benefit from a full pre-season and clearly defined role at his new club.

NEXT UP
Fremantle remains home and will meet crosstown rival West Coast at HBF Arena next Saturday, March 7, at 4.10pm AWST. Carlton returns to its home base and will host Brisbane at Ikon Park on Sunday, March 8, at 6.40pm AEDT.

Giants send early warning by crushing crosstown rivals
February 29, 2020

GREATER Western Sydney has overcome the absence of six representative stars to easily account for Sydney in their opening match of the Marsh Community Series, but the club is most concerned about a serious injury to club champion Tim Taranto.
The Giants lost star midfielder Taranto early in the opening term with a dislocated right shoulder and will be anxiously awaiting scans to see just how much footy he will miss.
With the season opener just three weeks away, the 22-year-old appears to be little chance of facing Geelong at home and could be out of action for a more significant amount of time if he requires surgery.
Taranto blossomed in the absence of injured midfielders Callan Ward, Stephen Coniglio, Josh Kelly and Matt de Boer last season, winning the best and fairest after averaging 27.7 disposals, 6.3 tackles and 5.3 clearances without missing a match.

Despite Taranto's painful exit, and being without Coniglio, Kelly, Lachie Whitfield, Jeremy Cameron, Toby Greene and Nick Haynes, who played in Friday's bushfire charity match, the Giants were too powerful for the Swans and set up their 19.7 (121) to 3.9 (27) win at Blacktown with a run of 15 consecutive goals after the first break.

After a nightmare 2019 with injury, small forward Zac Langdon showed why he's so highly valued by the Giants with five goals, while inside bull Jacob Hopper was prolific.

Young onballer Jackson Hately is set to build on his seven-game debut season if his four-quarter effort is anything to go by, and the first outings of top-10 draft picks Lachie Ash and Tom Green were also impressive.

The Swans struggled to find an avenue to goal with tall targets Lance Franklin (knee) and Sam Reid (calf), plus the energetic Tom Papley (Victoria) out of the side, with Nick Blakey, Tom McCartin and Callum Sinclair finding it tough against first-choice Giants defenders Phil Davis, Sam Taylor and Aidan Corr.

Speedy midfielder Oliver Florent was a tireless worker for the Swans alongside co-captains Luke Parker and Josh Kennedy, while Sydney would be encouraged by the solid return of injury-prone ruckman Sam Naismith.

The Swans should get valuable defenders Jake Lloyd and Callum Mills back from the bushfire match for their final clash of the series against North Melbourne next week.

NEW FACES
Greater Western Sydney:
Lachie Ash made a seamless transition to senior footy and impressed with his quality use of the footy off half-back, while Tom Green got better as the match went on, especially with his use of hands in tight. Kieren Briggs showed off his mobility forward and in the ruck and he combined well with veteran recruit Sam Jacobs, who had a strong influence around the ground.

Sydney: Will Gould's physicality was outstanding in defence, while Dylan Stephens and Chad Warner showed glimpses of their talent through the midfield on a tough day for the Swans. Recruits Kaiden Brand, Sam Gray and Lewis Taylor were handy without being dominant and could all play a part in the Swans' best team this year.

FANTASY WATCH
Lachie Ash (DEF/MID)
is no doubt ready for senior action early in the season and has no issue finding the footy playing in defence, showing plenty of dash.

Oliver Florent (MID) took some huge strides in his development last season playing on a wing and looks set to take on more responsibility in 2020 playing more as an inside midfielder.

NEXT UP
The Giants travel to Wagga Wagga for a Grand Final rematch against Richmond on Sunday, March 8, while the Swans are also on the road when they take on North Melbourne in Tasmania the following day.

In the post match presser JLo said that Aish would be played where ever they needed him. This will be the issue. One week he spends time in the mids next week he is lock down player on some one. Pretty sure JLo brought him to Freo with a role in mind so he will get games but his scoring could be variable.

Tobe Watson - what likelihood that he plays round 1 and strings a few games together?
Would also like to know this. Love me some 124k rookies.
He looks a likely type to my eyes, not much of him but has good height about him and moves well. What he did he did so with minimal fuss, I'll admit that he wasn't as noticeable on the telecast but still managed a decent score. This says to me that there's no reason why he can't score similarly in the real stuff, if he makes it. I don't think he's the replacement for Hamling/Pearce as such (Cox and Logue were the ones who occupied those posts), so it boils down to whether a Cerra/Aish types gets pushed back to accommodate Fyfe/Walters as to whether he maintains his spot for R1. For now, he's on my DEF bench.

Had my eye on Crisp all pre-season. Never really got going last year due to an interrupted pre-season but apparently he's done a full pre-season this year. Could easily see him averaging 95-100 while playing a mix of half back and midfield. Houston, Dawson, Weller and Crisp are all in a similar range and can see big improvement from all of them.
