Pretty standard stuff. Read some good things on Caldwell, had a ripper game vs Sydney the other day. Would love to swap Whit for Bont but depends on rookies. Still 3 weeks to go but I can't remember having this much doubt over the 120k rookies.
I know it's early but having 5 guys holding down rookie spots in the backline that may not play would make me nervous.

So, round 1 of the Marsh series comes to an end so how closer are we to knowing anymore about roles and rookies of players we've had our eyes on over the pre-season.

Rookies look light. in fact if next week doesn't show up some half decent performances from rookies then maybe I need to move outside of my comfort zone and play around with the midpricers and even see what Gawn to Naismith brings elsewhere around the ground.

Below if a team slapped together looking at some of those players with question marks on changes of roles which might see them improve supercoach scoring. No Devon Smith, no Lynch no Jack Steven so plenty of areas where changes can be made. But it's the rookies that'll determine where to from here.

I thought Green from GWS was probably the best looking rookie outside of Rowell but not sure there is a place for him although Taranto missing may help. Ash looked good also but it's a tough team to crack.

Jack Noble one to watch also, good game today but price is up there. Hoping Hibberd might come through also.

Still early but a lot to think about.

Here's where I'm currently at after Marsh #1...

Docherty, Dawson, Lukosius, Noble & Sparrow have all found their way into my team and I've dropped my 5th MID in order to accommodate them. Let's see what Marsh #2 brings, hopefully more viable scoring Rookies shows their hands.

This is what I have after Marsh 1. I have $83k to spare. Anyone under $350k is still mostly a place filler and very much dependant on performance in Marsh 2 and being selected round 1.

Really like Lukosius pick, little concerned with Serong (but it was only one game) and really like how you manage to get sparrow in at the end

Treloar did his hammy and is in doubt for round 1.

Keane unlikely for round 1 with Moore and Howe to slot in.

Hopefully T Brown plays round 1 but Pendlebury and Sidebottom may squeeze him out.

The rest looks solid.

Dont know much about Keane, he is an interesting pick. Treloar might have done the left hammy today but plenty of other options in the midfield.

I’m not sure about that 4 rookie midfield but with Budarick on your mid bench Whitfield could be M5. It’s a lot of money spent on rookies above $160k. Are you hoping to de-spend a bit if you can? I’ve got a few too but not as many.

I’m just not sure that midfield will hold up and feel you need that 5th premium in there. I worry you are seeing less rookie risk just because you are spending a premium but the scoring may not play out to justify all that rookie spend.

Serong in your bench? Like I commented just before I’m not sure that taking out the 5th premium mid and then spending up on Noble types is actually de-risking your side. I think the defence rookies will show up for us and that would be the line to extend the rookies out rather than pick 4 mid rookies over $160k and then benching one.

I have Serong on my bench too, can’t find any cheaper options. Budarick at F6 for me. Serong, McInerney and Mahoney (FD) on my mid bench, Rowell, Green and Pickett on field.

McHenry (injured his hammy), Philp (low tog) and RCD (poor score and low tog) seem unlikely for R1. Hibberd is a chance but he’s underdone.

This is why I’m trialling Naismith R2. It’s allowed me 6 deep in the mids plus Steven M7. Roberton D3.

It’s also why I’m feeling like 4 premium mids is not enough.

Why not Budarick in your mids? There are at least playing cheap forwards rooks (hopefully). Especially if D Cameron gets up.

Could you sacrifice a premium defender to get Serong up to at least Acres/Steven?

Steven M7 seems a bit extreme. I presume Rowell at M8 and then Pickett M9.

Pickett seems like one of the more reliable rookies to start.

I’m not sure that a Steven M7 move to get Pickett on the bench is the answer... Serong/Green combo with one on bench looked good to me.

It’s $330k though in your M8-9 and relying on Green not doing a Hately in their stacked midfield.

Like you I’m struggling for options that’s why I’ve ended up with Pickett on the bench which ideally I would change if Serong or Green look viable.

Sorry missed the rest of ur response.

Budarick is one I think I’d like to start. Traditionally HB rookies score better and although named as an M/F, he played as a HB. Seems perfect for F6, especially with DPP.

D Cameron is doubtful, only scored so well without Grundy. MCox would surely be ahead of him. I saw a pies B22 here.

There’s every chance you end up with Pickett benched as well though.

I feel Greaves, Rowell, Brander, maybe Watson and then Hill/Ash/Noble allows a skinny defence to partly solve the mid rookie dilemma.

Also if it gets that dire I’d probably start Hibberd and wait.
