Excellent info thanks @THCLT.

By my count, if you imposed a threshold or 50 SC and/or 60% TOG, we would have the following:

DEF: 8 meeting SC threshold, 12 meeting TOG threshold, including 7 meeting both.

MID: 7, 8 and 7

FWD: 4, 13 and 4

So the forwards do look horrible from a scoring perspective, but there are a decent number with solid TOG.

The depth looks best down back on this basis (noting that someone like Brander is treated as a def here), especially with 3 fewer spots to fill than in the midfield.

My premium mids and rucks won’t change as that is where I have always gone Uber premium and rookiesfor these lines. The def and fwd I have grouped 2 x 500k+ players for each line and 2 x 400-500k players for each line. Dependent on rookies it will be which combination of these 8 players that will fill those remaining 6 spots. no point trying to be too concrete at this stage as it’s a bit disheartening when u have really committed ur mind to a structure for months in the lead up and then it needs to change 24 hrs before the first rolling lockout

Darcy Cameron shone in his first hit out in the black and white, booting two goals, taking seven marks and winning 20 hit-outs against Richmond.

Brodie Grundy obviously has a monopoly over the Magpies’ ruck situation, but coach Nathan Buckley has suggested Cameron and Mason Cox will battle it out for the secondary spot in the side.

“We felt like the tall boys were pretty even coming into this game,” Buckley said after his side’s 40-point win over Richmond.

“Mason and Darcy really stood up. His (Cameron’s) own performance has been a big strength.”

CJ , Watson (WCE) , Peace Prize , Guthrie , Ash , BZT / McAsey , Young

without factoring in :-

Starcevich , Williamson
Brander
Greaves , McLennan , Watson (Freo) , Williams , Gould

certainly is starting to look tempting

6 premium mids

Still like the look of 6 rookie mids

Rowell ✓
Anderson , Caldwell , Ash , Stephens
Pickett ✓
Serong
Green
McInerney/Budarick

excess of possible rookie backs so possibly start Ash as a mid

not worried by Serong & Green's starting price as long as they play , score points & make $$$

England's Royal Mail even made some stamps about it.....

Although I suspect only the more senior SCS members will understand the reference...

As long you pay the dollars, mid rookie prospects seem pretty good! I like Green and Serong as well, both looked impressive.

I think if Green is named Round 1 you just have to pick him, right? His JS will be shaky of course but he really knows how to find the footy.

Also, be on the look out for guys like Schoenberg and Rantall. Think we may have a few midfield rookie smokies who could pop up in Round 1.

Yeah, definitely if Taranto looks like missing some games... Hope Green pushes someone else out of the team... but Hately looked pretty good as well on the weekend so there is a fair squeeze at the Giants for those midfield spots

I think sometimes we get caught up in trying to have all $ 123,900.00 or less players on our benches , if they don't look viable we need to find alternatives.

Be interesting to see how Serong goes with Fyfe & Son Son back next game and likewise Green with the returning Giants.

As far as I can tell Green should start the year off as either the no.4, no.5 or no.6 player for mid rotations at GWS - behind JKelly, Cogs, Hopper, De Boer and potentially Hately. I think he might be in front of Hately and potentially De Boer if they aren't using De Boer as an inside mid tagger in some games. GWS may also look at using Toby Greene more in the middle to start the season. You'd think Ward and Taranto don't return until week 5 or 6.

Serong on the other hand could be behind Fyfe, Walters, Conca, Brayshaw, Acres, Cerra and perhaps even Tucker and therefore might not get as much mid time.

We might have to pick both but we've seen in the past that picking expensive rookies who impress in preseason but aren't able to get midfield time when the season starts can backfire quite badly. That was the case with Brayshaw in 2018. If there's a cheaper option that player could be prove a better selection.

Ash is probably a better pick because he isn't relying on stoppages.

Indeed but I still think we are likely to need Ash in the backline, unless enough rookies show up. You could theoretically pick Ash over one of these two in the midfield and then pick Zerk-Thatcher, but ZT is more expensive and will probably average low 60's. But he has good job security.

And don't forget everyones favorite Fremantle defender set for more midfield time every year but never gets more midfield time every year or gets injured every year AKA Blakey
