It depends on what you expect Houston will average. I had him at 95-100, which is good at his starting price but not a must have. If he scores in that range, he will be around $500k at the bye, so not out of hand price wise.

The risk in round 11 of trying to manage getting a full 22, just makes it a easy choice.

If you think he scores make him a must have, then I could understand starting him.
Of course, that is the primary consideration for all starting selections. I suppose my point is that if you thought Houston was a good starting pick then not sure the change to a round 11 bye should affect that even with the potential benefits of the round 12 upgrade scenario you describe.

Worse case, you cop a donut in rd11, if he was averaging ~ 100, that drops his expected average by 5 to 90-95. If that was his expected average rd 1, I probably wouldn’t pick him.

At his price and expected scoring I thought Houston was a nice pick but not a must have. I was thinking 95-100.
If he goes 105+ then I'm getting burnt.
Out of curiosity did anyone think he would be a 105+ player and would this change the opinion of those skipping him?
I'm happy to start without him. The lack of Saints and Port players on my radar also makes it nice to have a trade in target from those teams after their bye.
he will b 105+ till his bye b4 other inclusions in midfield like wines,ebert,powell-pepper,boak,rozee,butters,rockliff,gray some1 like wines/rockliff cant see any impact other than CBA and stoppage attendances

Houston plays 12,13,14
You get Ryan for 14

Ryan plays 11,12,14
You get Houston for weeks 12,13,14

Likely to get two extra premium scores so worth about 80 points

The issue is that bye is so bad you are very prone get a 0 with one more player having that bye.

I can’t see any other defenders with the R12 bye who might be worth starting (Rich or Stewart?)
ryan has the worst bye to go with non scoring of gawn, grundy, petracca, oliver, cripps, docherty, fyfe t.mac for example

Houston 95
Roberton 90

I don't really plan for the byes I just pick who I think is the best choice
if you think Roberton can average 90 you'd be crazy not to pick him. the 35 odd points you lose in round 11 are more than o***et by the fact you only paid $260k for the 900 points leading up to it. plus he's there for the 3 MBR's and if he scores 90 he's pushing out some ****ty score so you're getting some of those 35 points pack. plus he's making money.

Houston is a slightly different story. i reckon you'll probably want a way to get him into the midfield in rd 11 just to be on safe side but i can't see why carrying them both won't work.

Milera I haven’t completely crossed off and can see the attraction, but have not really considered Witherden. Narrowly dodged the Withers bullet last year, so hard to have a lot of faith.
He seems to have lost all confidence and penetration with his kicking after showing plenty during his debut season. I would like to see more certainty in his role, particularly sharing the kick in duty before I would even have a look. I feel that the emergence of guys like Answerth & Hinge have 'diluted' his effectiveness and position in the team.

I would caution against making the connection between where a player is name on the team sheet to where they will actually play. I tend to trust my eyes more than what the coaches chose to put on their team sheets.
yeh the suns now have lots of midfield depth they all cant play in there and a few of those probs cant play anywhere but mid

Agree, the “emergence” of Rich seemed to have killed his role. He also needs to improve his decision making, maybe related to his confidence, but until he does that he feels like a DT pick only.

I've been 'sucked' into Witherden in DT for the past 2 seasons and he has been very underwhelming in that format as well.

ive talked myself into starting him to save the rd12 potential pick up. free up cash to bring in premo's from Lions,Eagles,Geelong,Essendon to cover that horrible rd13 bye and some bank for player pick ups rd14 for example docherty, oliver, treloar, cripps, martin, fyfe
