Great minds, I was reminded of Collins as I read his description.
There’s the same bit of role ambiguity as well. I think BZT is more likely to be playing lock down than Collins did but there’s definitely scope for spike games in those types of player.

Hills quad means we may end up being forced to take him regardless.

I think that will be the case. There was an article posted somewhere where Hooker declared he was not playing as a permanent forward anytime soon.
yeh he said he sees himself as a defender which better suits the team
I think this is the interview you are both referring to (https://www.triplem.com.au/story/cale-hooker-reveals-he-ll-miss-the-start-of-the-season-157330 ). I'm not sure that he "declared he was not playing forward".

Here's what he said: "I'll have to wait and see as to how the team looks. I think I am more suited to playing as a defender and I think I am more suited for the team as a defender." "I think I can settle down in the backline... but if we need and if the coaches need throughout the year, they can throw me forward".

My view is that we definitely need him forward....

There’s usually a few left field, well, sometimes there are some left field selections that come up round 1. There’s still a couple of weeks for injuries at training to happen and others to perform in scratch matches or reserve comps.
Been tough though, but the basic shell of a team is coming together.

Nice looks about right. Who's on field in defence?
I guess main contenders are Roberton, Noble, BZT types.

I think T.Watson might still be a chance. Freo's BF board had him in contention.
Caleb Marchbank (knock to the knee) and Lachie Plowman (rolled ankle) being out potentially could help Williamson's chances.

In the midfield, Sharp and Budarick might be outside chances. In a "doomsday" scenario where none of the possible mid rookies under 123k get up, I'm looking at Anderson on bench with Mahony as a floating donut....

D4-D6 Roberton , Noble , BZT

Need to study up on Freo more , they look like they were missing anywhere between 8-12 players that could be best 22.

I guess the best thing about Williamson is Carlton play first so we will know on the Wednesday.

Anderson / Bonar could possibly do the job on the bench.

Not looking good for D Stephens , Serong etc.

Fingers crossed someone else appears or I will just select Bennell.

Knowing our luck we will see a heap of rookies debuting in Round 2 or 3.

Brander could start for us if say Starcevich and Watson get up. Let’s hope for that

Very sensible D4-D6 based on the current info. At least you can be certain they will play!

Seems Marchbank and Plowman are okay so Williamson probably unlikely

Amos said Marchbank's issue "didn't look overly serious" while Plowman's also seemed "pretty minor".

Also some positive comments on Robertson from the coach.

Fagan liked what he saw in the fiercely competitive Robertson.

"Tonight was more to see how he'd go at the level and I think we've just seen there that he's a pretty competitive young man, he's tough, he tackles, he puts his head over the ball and his teammates enjoy him being alongside them," Fagan told reporters post-match.

"So we've got a few selection dilemmas for round one because I don't think we've got too many injuries at the moment and there's some guys that showed some good form tonight. We've got a couple of weeks to work it out – it's probably a good thing."

I had a quick look at the rookies/cheapies from the 14 teams to have played both Marsh games so far and only came up with 26 players under $300k I would be happy to have in my starting team (not counting Rucks, which are locked), and of those at least 5 are unlikely to get named in R1. Not good. Think I'll have to pick at least a few I don't expect to score well.

Hopefully a lot of the cheapies from the last 2 matches are viable...

Fairly confident those 3 will play , certainly wasn't impressed by Noble at all last season so hopefully he has improved over the summer.

Just hope they can get that initial 6-8 games and make some $$$.

Not so sure on McAsey JS but we almost have to take who is named.
