Last year we had a league, then a few more were interested so we created a group as well. I remember one seemed to work better than the other, but I can’t remember which one? Maybe the league was better for seeing live scores but you couldn’t see teams before H2H matches (Round 3?) and all teams during finals ... but I may have misremembered it!

Lets just make a league and if more people want to join then a group can be made

I know
But the chances of winning with a team other people made for me are pretty low
I had that view last year (opted out) and IIRC think I actually came out in front of the initially selected team and all participants but not by a great deal ... only reason was that I wanted a different Ruck setup ....

I think it was a good concept though ....

Hi all, I am in! Given the time restrictions I think this year it might be easier to skip stage 1 and just post a first draft team to start discussions? What are people's thoughts?

I can't remember if we locked on the Wednesday last year, before final teams were announced? Or did we allow final changes after teams?

Gonna be an interesting year for Fantasy with the lack of obvious cash cows. Anyone want to put forward strategies and/or must haves and/or anything else?

We have to decide our ruck line up quickly because this is will take a while

Personally I think the must haves are
Doc
Pickett
Rowell
Whitfield
Rankine
Cripps

I think it would be a lot of fun if Gawn or Grundy was not in the starting team so we can see who is willing to pay up for them and at what point do they pull the trigger

I think that is a great idea as it is unlikely we will all agree, so putting a single team out rather

From memory we locked in the team the night before the first game, so we only knew Richmond and Carlton teams. I think we decided it would be too hard to communicate last minute changes to the whole league if we rolled selection over three days whilst teams get finalised.

As a result I think we had a higher than normal mid price strategy so that we only had the more likely rookies to play - a challenge faced given we had to run with them before knowing final teams. At the end of the day we all have the same team so it doesn’t matter a couple of players miss, but we don’t want to risk too many out.

I think going with a couple more mid price risks would be the way to go this year given the rookie situation appears more difficult than last year.

I can't find the initial call for player picks, but I'd be looking at:

Captains
Grundy or Macrae

Quality premiums who are not overpriced in my view
Doc
Oliver
Sicily
Danger
Merrett
Cripps
Ryan?
Dusty?

Cash cows/value picks
Trac
Houston
Roberton
Rowell
Pickett

Hope this broadly fits the brief!

Here is a quote from last year. Looks like we went for the Wednesday night lock.
Alright, how about Wednesday night lock, after RIC v CAR teams named. If Balta's named, he's in. Otherwise it's Parker. If we have heard anything positive about debutant announcements from Geelong, we pick them, otherwise we pick Gibbons (assuming he's named).

Unless we hear anything negative about them in debutant announcements, Scott, Butters, Drew etc are picked in our team on trust, and if they're not named come Thursday then so be it.

I haven't really put together a serious team yet but will over the next few days ....

As lockout usually occurs on the first Friday game here are the potential loophole games for the year:

First 5 rounds:

- CAR x 2 (Cripps ?)
- COL x 2 (Grundy ?)
- ESS x 2 (Zerrett ?)
- RIC x 2 (Dusty ?)
- BRI x 1
- ADE x 1
