OK, those responses align well with each other and with my own thoughts so a structure emerges. First draft:

Be very keen to hear everyone's value/cash cow options. Haven't had a chance to go through and check if there are any bargains in this that I haven't considered in SC due to the different pricing.

The MN is 7420 so for example Brayshaw is priced to score 69.5. It's tough this year so I reckon we're just looking for anyone we predict to outscore their price by 20+. At any price point, really!

I'm happy with that team except for petracca
I would personally put in Steven instead

Would also be able to just afford upgrading Oliver > Dunkley ....

Unfortunately 2k short of say Houston > Smith ....

Also not sure if Roberton, Starcevich, Mahony etc all get a round 1 gig ... but slim pickings out there and as good as any other low priced place holders until teams are released ....

Rest of the team looks pretty close to what I was planning to start with anyway so no complaints from me .... had come up with Crisp over Laird, Smith over Howe, Dunkley over Oliver etc but those picks came at the cost of Whitfield down to Walters, Petracca, MacPherson etc ...

An option could be:
Out: Z Merrett, C Oliver, J Howe, S Naismith, T Lynch, J Mahony
In: D Smith (via L Whitfield), T Mitchell, L Ash, S Jacobs, J Steven, N Anderson
Remaining salary: $28,000

Feels a bit silly to be thinking about this, but just because it's fun and takes my mind off other things, let's proceed as though it's all going head. I think we need to see people's predictions for some players. Starting with:

Howe
Houston
Brodie Smith
Aish
Ash

Hately
N Anderson

Jacobs
Naismith

D Smith
J Steven
Petracca
TJ Lynch
B Long
J Mahony

Given we will lock on Wednesday night, I think we need to be relying on fewer rookies on field so probably need at least one fewer premo and a couple more midpricers.

If anyone wants to throw other midpricer names into the ring, please do.

I presume this means one of Jacobs/Naismith and not both, I think I would definitely prefer a Grundy R1 side (although anything is fine!).

I've bolded the mid pricer guys that I think would be good to start in this comp for fun. Jacobs, Hately and B.Smith and the other usual suspects sounds like a good mix. If possible, I'd avoid the Ash, Robertson types which might be iffy. If selected in R1 and not dropped, coaches could always correct in R2-3.

+1 on this.

I’m no expert in this format, but the key things I’ve taken from it are (1) pick players that will outscore their price (plenty of trades to upgrade over time, but starting teams often suck because the budget seems quite tight - so cash gen is very important) and (2) it’s DT, not SC, scoring - so if in doubt, pick the player with mid time (or maybe getting a lot of ball in the back line).

On this basis, guys like Howe seem easy omissions unless we think they’re super cheap, and guys like Houston and Trac seem like fairly obvious picks to me.

Jacobs over Naismith as R2 due to displaying a more conducive style for DT in conjunction with his prior scoring history. Wouldn’t bother about Howe, Aish or Lynch and I’m fine with the rest that are listed above.

We are still looking for at least one more coach to join so that we have an even number.

So if you are not sure, come on board and give it a go ... it brings a bit of a different challenge and enjoyment to a platform that may frustrate otherwise!! ;)
