Great write up mate and fantastic insight. Feels good reading that even the winner got sucked in by Karnezis :p

Just looking at your final team, I would've bet my left nut Griffen and Goldy would've been there..and maybe even Danger/Joey. Did you at any stage feel like they were PODs that could have cost you the title?

I also thought it was an interesting (but correct) move to trade Zorko out as Brisbane's draw started to open up. Was that a straight forward trade for you or did you not read too much into the draw?
I definitely thought Griffen, Jack and Goldy were huge threats. Massive. About rd 18 I was certain I was out of the running and it would be because I didn't have those players. However in the end, partly by circumstance and partly through sticking with my plans, I backed the team I had and it was thru NOT having those players (or types, like Heppel and Hanley - certain 'must haves') that was the reason I won.

If I have traded Watson to Griffen or Jack I wouldn't have won. Same goes with if I picked up Heppell Hanley or one of the GCS boys instead of Malceski. there were of course others that would've been good (Hibberd) but I resolved to not pick the flavour of the months and in the end it worked out for me

Well done Dimma, thanks for the time and effort involved with your write up.
Notice you kept the faith with Gibbs early when he missed games. Interested to know if you were tempted to trade him out ?

No never thought of trading him. Maybe if I had more trades but in the end he scored like most DEF generally do. Ain't many capable of a 150 even with the odd 60

Congrats dimma great season my friend,
Something I have to take on board next year is the use of dpp.
You had great use of ddp, a trade saver through the year in some ways.
thanks for the info.
bet you were wrapped when you got burger in round 4.
2 premo rucks all of a sudden makes your team look alot stronger on the screen haha

Wow sliding doors at its finest. Rarely would you see leaders looking for PODS (generally opting to negate and cancel out threats) so its great to see you stuck to your guns and chose to strengthen your depth rather than sideways trade your premiums...which ultimately was the reason you won. I think keeping Priddis and saving a trade at the same time looked like a winning move as well, whereas most would've moved him on.

I for one was guilty of trying to get the popular players in to negate gains by the masses. Heppell was a major fail but also Ibbotson killed me in the end so lesson learnt for next year. Like Eski myself and predicted him to be one of the top scoring backs by year's end. Didn't take my own advice on board unfortunately.

Completely agree here. Even when Ross Lyon was doing his best to troll the supercoach world, his team stood up.

Great post and big congrats!

There is one trade that really stands out for me.

Travis Cloke > Stevie J at the end of round 6.

Cloke's previous scores had been
Round 3: 133
Round 4: 195
Round 5: 63
Round 6: 124

On fire - and averaging 128 in his past 4 and you trade him to Stevie J

Despite him having a big break-even I remember a number of coaches were actually bringing him in at that stage.

His following 4 weeks were

Round 7: 36
Round 8: 93
Round 9: 83
Round 10: 76

for an average of 72 and a price drop of $128,500

Well played Dimmawits!

Well done Dimma and thanks for taking the time to do this write up, it's always facinating to see how the winner has gone during the year!

I think that was my best trade as well. The impact was never immediately apparent but I effectively got a whole benefit of a rookie in the cash Travis had gained and subsequently lost others. All whilst scoring at a 130 av. Which SJ then did for several rounds.

If 30 trades stays in I think this kind of trade becomes more valid (like DT with 44 trades)

Hi Dimma,
thanks for being so generous with your time, in answering our members questions. We feel priveleged that you take the time to do that!
I'm looking forward to doing the analysis on your team, and trades, so I can add it to the other analyses I did of previous winners in the How to pick my team (with an Analysis of the last 3 SuperCoach Winners!) thread. Unfortunately, I probably won't get to it for around a week. I need to get my Brownlow summary finalised first.
I saw you mention in your newspaper interview, that you might step back a little from SC next season. I hope if you decide to play, you will have room in your schedule to be a part of our 2014: Champions Invitation League. No pressure, and I know you're not even thinking about next season yet. It would just be an honour to have a League with you, Jay, Chewy, Mutley and 14 of the top 100 2013 Coaches, here at our site!

I would like to also say thanks for such a great analysis and for being generous with your insights. The Travis Cloke trade is one I just never would have made but it was obviously a very good call, gutsy and it paid off in spades! Congratulations and well done!

Well done Dimma, congratulations on an awesome year and taking out the big one.

I must admit the first thing that struck me was the number of sideways trades early in the year for no or little cash gain.

Huge congrats mate!

I was right there with ya for a while, but looking at your trade choices (and non choices too it seems) it's easy to see why you powered on and I fell away. Well done!

Just out of interest, did you consider some of the hype-ier rookies in Daniher, Kyle Martin and Clisby at any stage? And further to that, did you jump the gun on any rookies before they'd played their token 2 games?

Thanks Sven. I did watch your team for much of the year, congrats on a good year yourself.

On your qn - I most definately did consider all of them. WRT to the first three I didn't take them primary because of timing and their lack of DPP. By timing I mean the rookies I had we're not ready to sell or I didn't think these guys would be ready to sell when I wanted to trade next.

In terms of DPP I was more comfortable holding day BKennedy and SColq. To the end because of what they offered in terms of flexibility to my side. Also by the time those guys you mentioned popped up I didn't think I needed the cash they would make to get to my final team.

In terms of the 2nd qn. Generally no. I'm pretty sure I took each of the rookies after two games, except for corrective trades in round 2 or at the end when my goal was simply dpp links.

Cheers mate

Congrats mate,
This year, like every other year I put out there the importance of DPP, here and elsewhere. There are some that refuse to enter the fold, you are living proof my friend.
I didn't use it as well as I should have, I should do as I say, not as I do. Having no D/M or D/F towards the end proved costly, but R/F was invaluable at the time.
I will remember your lesson.
Cheers!

I've only just discovered Supercoach Scores, so I come to this thread a bit late. Well done on your win John. I was just wondering how you managed your bank. Did you leave a little bit up your sleeve for corrections at the start of the year? It also appears you traded in Barlow to have a spare premium rather than trying to replace what appears to be a soft D6 and F6. Am I interpreting that correctly?

Great question.

John was very kind with his 2013 Review. Off track but I think the Opening Post by John holds the record for the most LIKES on SCS :)
