Hi all,

Dont often ask for trade advice but in quite a pickle and wouldn't mind some 2nd opinions. Narrowed it done to 3 options.

First option is with Ceglar as trade in to cover Naismith for however long he misses. It allows me to play Bennell/McInerney in mids until Naismith is back. Like this option as im getting 2 keepers (Ceglar and Greenwood) for only one keeper out (Bont). Only thing i don't absolutely love is Bewley, i'm more bullish on Long but cant afford him unfortunately. Ceglar im not 100% sold on as an option but his ruck cover could prove very useful throughout the year. Next week it will allows me to go Comben - D.Cameron. However to get Georgiadis or Sturt if they return i have to trade out a playing player like Budarick or King. Could also get Pittonet over Bewley in this option

Option 2 is the Pittonet option. I think Pittonet will be one of the stronger mid pricers, however comes against Gawn potentially the only week i need him on field. This option gives me Long as a trade in over Bewley and allows me to potentially go BZT & Roberton - Doedee and 1 of Sturt/Georgiadis/D.Cameron next week

Last option has Gawn as a trade in. Wasn't sold on Gawn over the preseason with his injury and price, but a good early draw and a 3 month layoff has me reconsidering. I think value is essential though and Naismith on the bench at 250k while Gawn is going to drop 50-100k could detract from the rest of my team. Provides a good captain option however, also allows me to get Long. This option also simplifies trades next week as I can go Comben/Cavarra to Sturt/Georgiadis/D.Cameron. Will have to play M.King on the field for a week.

Rambled on a bit. At the moment my preference is
1. Ceglar option
2. Pittonet
3. Gawn

I quite like your Ceglar team. As you said he will be a handy swingman to have throughout the year. Would have liked to grab Greenwood myself this week but has more pressing issues

Docherty :p I would add Houston and Crisp to that list, and probably be looking at DBJ and Dawson over the other two. Andrews has heaps of potential but was super frustrating last year and I think still spoils too much (vs marking).
Thanks Darkie,

Already have Docherty and Houston like every man and his dog and Crisp is out as he has already played and unless I fall over a time machine that rules him out ;)

I like the Gawn option best haha. Mostly as that option still gives you the team that I would least want to face - which, even in this crazy year, can't be overlooked.
I'm taking Pittonet.
Keepers are not as relevant this year because of the shortened season. Value is much more important.
I do have my fingers crossed that Gawn doesn't burn me but will stick to my guns!
I like the Ceglar option but is Greenwood a must?

I would prefer somebody cheaper, say Wingard or Rozee and then Bewley up to Long.
Interesting that you're also considering Gawn in! Actually, I'd probably have my preferences the other way around haha:
1. Gawn
2. Pittonet
3. Ceglar option

If D.Cameron becomes a decent ruck cover option this season, the value of Ceglar diminishes. I'm jumping on Gawn myself this round but my alternative is the Pittonet option (I was considering Townsend rather than Bewley/Long types though).

Thanks all, appreciate the input

I agree Cameron will diminish the need for good ruck cover, was a bit hesitant to take that risk last night without seeing him play with Cox in the wings. Pittonet doesn't really have that competition. I haven't seen any appeal in Townsend personally, haven't considered him once tbh. Plays a bit of a graveyard role SC wise and without his first quarter effort he would have scored no more than a 123k rookie like King or Davis. Much prefer the option of Bewley or Long if you can find the cash to get him up to one of those guys. Pretty bullish on both averaging 80-85 with a small chance of them being viable season long options when we struggle to finish sides. I cant see Townsend providing that possibility.

Regarding Greenwood i think he is set for a big year. His high CP game is gold as we saw in round 1. I read a stat that no player who had 10 contested possessions scored less than 80. I think he will be at the forefront of GCs midfield and can see him averaging 100 if he remains fit and they don't muck around and play him out of position. Rozee i havent really considered, a bit risky for my liking being a 2nd year pick with less of a track record (not that greenwood has much of a track record of being a premium). I dont mind Wingard as an option, was on my radar in the preseason. Think he can definitely reach a fwd keeper level and potentially be a top 6 option. I've got the funds to go to Greenwood which i prefer but if i didn't then Wingard would be in the next tier of possible picks.

I agree strongly with value being essential, more than every other year. Every season we have the trades for fully upgraded teams. This year we dont have the trades (Alot more being needed for rookie corrections due to the long lay off) or time (in regards to how many rounds there are) to achieve a fully upgraded side. I think quasi premiums like Howe, Greenwood, Wingard and Ceglar will be vital. Already kicking myself i missed out on Howe. I think Ceglar and Greenwood being in the 400s will help teams get to as close as being completed as possible this year. While they look like ugly selections on paper and ideally you want a Walters, Heeney, etc. i think this is the season to throw out a "trade in only top 6 player" ideology and look for value across the board.

Has anyone heard anything from Chris Scott regarding Fort and whether it will be a week to week proposition? Considering trading him to Long as I have Fort, Frampton and Cavarra sitting fwd and the McHenrys and Crocker's aren't overly enticing yet

Fort is emergency so I think Scott just wanted Stanley in which blows my mind. Surprised Stanley has lasted this long in the AFL as there is better Rucks that have been let go by clubs.

Those trading Gawn in - are you keeping Naismith or going Naismith to Gawn? It looks like a lot of $$ to park on the bench if you’re keeping him.

Hi all,

Similar sort of ideas to All Is Wells, so I thought i'd throw in my two cents. Would greatly appreciate some help, as I've sat on this all day and still unsure.

So far i've done two trades-

BZT << Rivers
Bont << Viney

Below is my team currently, with 260k now freed up.

From here, I've narrowed it to 2 options. Both involve trading out Cavarra & Green, however they utilize Ceglar differently.

So it's Bewley vs Pittonet. I think Pittonet has far better scoring power + JS (seems like alot of Freo fans on bigfooty aren't the biggest fan when theyr'e at full strength). However, my main dilemma is if it is worth bringing in another ruck which would destroy the Cameron/Ceglar R/F swing, to generate the extra cash? If I took Bewley instead, it means when Naismith returns having one less rookie on the field? Sorry if I havent explained this properly, hopefully someone can help.

I like the Pittonet option mate. With my Ceglar option i posted earlier, i had Bewley but quickly realised i can get Pittonet for 15k less + better scoring potential based off rd 1 ruck scores as well as job security. I'll be going down this route so my votes for the 2nd image.

Just another option:
I really like ur team but I would just move Green out for extra coin and grab Howe for Guthrie next week. I would also grab Sturt for Cavarra as you would have used 1 trade bringing in Howe next week before he rises again and again.

Great post mate. I'm really struggling to split Ceglar vs Bewley + 170k. Been doing my nut in all day. Fancy Ceglar to get busy tonight against Stanley?

Thanks mate. I'd go with Ceglar if you cant see the 170k being better spent elsewhere. His ruck cover could come in handy at some point throughout the year. I guess the worrying thing is Mcevoy reclaiming the #1 ruck role, maybe best for a hawk supporters opinion on how likely this is. Regardless, i think its a risk worth taking. I'm putting him down for an avg between 88-93 which is more than acceptable at his price and with his dpp

I'd agree with those projections, best case 95-100 upside IMO. We're just plucking numbers from thin air though aren't we.

I like the Ceglar option for your side btw. Are you definitely selling Bont? I'm somewhat tempted to move to Titch/Neale. Very worried about potential $ drop.

Yeah i've been pretty set on Bont out to fund the trades. All my midfield premiums performed so he is the obvious option. Doesnt typically score well vs St.Kildia and then faces De Boer the week after. Will be looking to bring him in shortly after that, think he is set for a big year once he gets going. Scored 76 in the worst game i've seen him play, can see some big scores ahead after the next fortnight of games.
