Might go:

Bont/Roberton/BZT > Viney/Hurn/Rivers

Brought in Howe for Houston last night.

Leaves me one more trade if Green is dropped and I can grab Bennell
Well now it looks like this won't be an option - Green, Cavarra, Sturt, Roberton and BZT all out and 4 trades left this week, I need to use them on rookie corrections.

Thinking:
Green > Bennell
BZT > Rivers
Cav > Long
Roberton > Doedee

I don't love this trade, but am struggling to find 2 Defenders to bring in besides Rivers and Doedee, and then that only leaves me $350k to fill the forward spot.

The headaches others have with the ruckmen makes me a little glad I've got Grundy/Nic Nat at the present time. Have no intention to trade Nic Nat out at the moment as there are other thing to address. Currently thinking of the following:

OUT
Roberton
BZT
Guthrie
J.J. Kennedy
Green

IN
Wingard
Rivers
Doedee
Bennell
Bewley

Hoping that Rivers, Doedee and Bennell can hold their spots. McInerney playing this round is a load off my mind as I was very skinny in money making options if he wasn't playing. Hoping Wingard can have a good night with no O'Meara in the team.

Next week likely to be Cameron in for Noble (via B.Williams DPP) and grab Sturt most likely (not sure for who as of yet)

Thanks all, appreciate the input

I agree Cameron will diminish the need for good ruck cover, was a bit hesitant to take that risk last night without seeing him play with Cox in the wings. Pittonet doesn't really have that competition. I haven't seen any appeal in Townsend personally, haven't considered him once tbh. Plays a bit of a graveyard role SC wise and without his first quarter effort he would have scored no more than a 123k rookie like King or Davis. Much prefer the option of Bewley or Long if you can find the cash to get him up to one of those guys. Pretty bullish on both averaging 80-85 with a small chance of them being viable season long options when we struggle to finish sides. I cant see Townsend providing that possibility.

Regarding Greenwood i think he is set for a big year. His high CP game is gold as we saw in round 1. I read a stat that no player who had 10 contested possessions scored less than 80. I think he will be at the forefront of GCs midfield and can see him averaging 100 if he remains fit and they don't muck around and play him out of position. Rozee i havent really considered, a bit risky for my liking being a 2nd year pick with less of a track record (not that greenwood has much of a track record of being a premium). I dont mind Wingard as an option, was on my radar in the preseason. Think he can definitely reach a fwd keeper level and potentially be a top 6 option. I've got the funds to go to Greenwood which i prefer but if i didn't then Wingard would be in the next tier of possible picks.

I agree strongly with value being essential, more than every other year. Every season we have the trades for fully upgraded teams. This year we dont have the trades (Alot more being needed for rookie corrections due to the long lay off) or time (in regards to how many rounds there are) to achieve a fully upgraded side. I think quasi premiums like Howe, Greenwood, Wingard and Ceglar will be vital. Already kicking myself i missed out on Howe. I think Ceglar and Greenwood being in the 400s will help teams get to as close as being completed as possible this year. While they look like ugly selections on paper and ideally you want a Walters, Heeney, etc. i think this is the season to throw out a "trade in only top 6 player" ideology and look for value across the board.
Good effort to respond to all these in one hit. I agree that Townsend is unlikely to hit 80+ I was interested in him for a quick 100k-120k cash gen which I think he would achieve with 75s. I didn't quite rate Long/Bewley's upside that highly but trust your gut if that's what you think!

Generally agree with your sentiment here but reckon the rucks is the one place you probably don't want to compromise for too long. In the preseason it was Gawn with compromised preparation and a likelihood to start slow whereas Naismith had a decent draw and had no injury interruptions. Tables have turned, with Gawn with a gift of a draw, Naismith with compromised preparation AND Gawn in R5 to stagnate cash growth.

OK so change of plans, due to some players not being selected.

OUT: Robertson, BZT, Bont, Green, Cavarra

IN: Hurn, Rivers, Viney, Bennell, McHenry

I've decided to hold Brayshaw for this week and swap him with Lynch or Wingard next week.

I’ve swung Ceglar into the ruck for this round. Traded out my ruck donut and hung onto Naismith.
I was close to doing that also, team looked good and meant bringing in Cameron next week should he hold his spot could swing Ceglar back. Although Camerons real value I think is as a forward rookie with Ceglar once Naismith is up and running.

Did you squeeze in Long.?
Yep and Doedee.

I just feel even though Doedee is coming back from a knee reco that role and his DT/SC ration will be well suited to this year. Was only reading that Crouch said he was flying and looked really good so we'll see. Both Long and Doedee have money tied up in them so should be easy enough to go down to a performing rookie or use as a step if needed.

Thanks Darkie,

Already have Docherty and Houston like every man and his dog and Crisp is out as he has already played and unless I fall over a time machine that rules him out ;)
Haha - strong point re Crisp, that one escaped me! Houston might be a bit more poddish I reckon, people seemed to cool on him late and switch to Laird, Sicily types to some degree - I bailed on him but his CBAs looked good so you might be on a winner there if that continues.

DBJ looks to be the people’s favourite and looked good on my analysis recently. He might be a good option for you - I was a bit annoyed not to snag him in Ultimate League ?

Long is a speculative pick for me. Quality user, new role, good intercept and contested numbers in defence. Query is a couple of tough games against Collingwood and Richmond but the ball will be in his area often so we'll see.

14 disposals and a SC hundo is good going
