NicNat to Pittonet
Williams to Cameron

Bank the cash and see what happens round 3.

Sitting 53k and not liking it.

Hoping to get Gawn at some point this year but gee whiz he's burning me.
I am tempted to move on Nic Nat for Pittonet but it is only one game. The last thing I would want is for Pittonet to have shocker and Nic Nat to tear it up.
Besides I cannot use the cash (Not enough) to immediately upgrade any other underperforming rookie to another keeper. Who knows. I may still do it. ?

He's in my consideration for the Houston trade, assuming team selection doesn't throw a whole heap of unexpected challenges (I'm thinking there will be a bit of "sore/managed" going around this week).

But like you, didn't see the game.
Thanks Frosty. I think I will pull the trigger on this trade.

I thought I'd put in my $0.02¢ on the "should I/shouldn't I?" Pittonet discussion*.
*Disclaimer - I already have him.

I think most should be trying to get him, even if it means parking him at R3 for a short period. If Pittonet goes:
72/72 he makes $100.7k after Rnd 4 (BE 51)
77/77/77 he makes $120.9k after Rnd 5 (BE 54)
91/91/91 he makes $152.0k after Rnd 5 (BE 44)
You are likely to be selling Rookies later in the season, that have made a lot less than those numbers above!
Some of you are worried about parking so many dollars on the bench, and feel they should be working for you. Well, let's look at that.
48.9% of Coaches have between them Xerri/Conroy/Williams/Comben in their teams, costing $102k and $124k, that are effectively parked, doing nothing! "Loopholes!" I hear you cry! I would wager over 90% of those Coaches now have other players in their list of 30, that can facilitate a Captains loophole. At least with the $236,200 Pittonet costs, it is actually actively working for you, as an investment, making dollars. Now let's look at the lost opportunity. People will say that points cost the value of the MN. I disagree, particularly when it comes to the spending of loose change. Theory will tell you, that the $113k spent to get Pittonet would net around 21 points, if used elsewhere. This rarely proves to be the case, in my experience, and instead of dividing by the MN, try dividing the loose change by 10,000, and you might get a more realistic figure. Let's work with both the 21 points in lost opportunity, and the 11 points.
My guess is, that Pittonet might get down to an average of around 88 by the time we're ready to cash him in. I'm not as bullish on his scoring from here as some. If he scores 81's from here until Rnd 9, his season average is 88, his price is $401,600 (+$165,400 BE 69). That will mean you held him for 7 Rounds, and made $165k. Now let's compare the opportunity lost, with the opportunity created.
Lost 7 Rounds @ 21 = 147, or @ 11 = 77 points lost.
Created 8 Rounds @ 165,400/5150 = 256, @16.5 = 132
So if you are using the MN method to say you have too many dollars parked on the bench, you are actually 109 points better off by having parked those dollars, and if you use the conservative $10,000/point approach, you are 55 points better off!

Now, having made what I hope is a convincing argument to get him, I'm going to argue the otherside for a moment.
I've seen people post thoughts along the lines of, if I trade player A to player B I will have enough money to turn Xerri into Pittonet.
To those people I say

STOP!!!!

Do not make 2 trades, if one of them is compromised, just to force a good cow into your team! This is very important. You do not want to to make 2 trades to get a $150k-$200k earning Cow. The first trade needs to be able to stand on it's own! ie. forget the trade that brought Pittonet in, just look at the other trade you made. Is it a trade you are happy with? Is it a trade you would make, if Pittonet didn't score 134 last week, and only scored 80? If the answer to either of these questions is "No", then I suggest Pittonet is not for you! He is not worth 2 trades, and that is what you are paying, if one of them is compromised, just to get him in!

EDIT - I can see a flaw in my logic above. The reality is a lot more complicated, and I was trying to simplify it, which isn't sitting well with me, on review.
The complication sets in, in 2 areas. Did Pittonet get used to cover a missing a R1/R2 score while sitting at R3? If so, obviously big bonus. Would the $113k got you to a Keeper, even a Psuedo Keeper? Even a weak old D6 leaking points, but saving you a trade by holding him. Then you might be better off not parking the extra dollars on the R3 bench, if the scenario pans out as explained above. If it pans out better than above, and he scores higher, makes the dollars quicker, and can be utilised quicker, then it's all the better, of course. The above scenario sort of assumes, that the player you used the $113k on, in turn, needs upgrading himself. It's a very complicated scenario, to try and compare dollars used in Rnd 3 against a much larger sum used in say Rnd 9.
Sorry if this edit has muddied the waters.
The general premise still stands. If you can get Pittonet in one trade, you should more than likely do it!

I agree with you, but I will not get Pittonet, because I value the Cap/Vice combo of Grundy and Gawn. This combo works only with a non-playing R3 like Comben.

I see you've got 28 green lights, Sturt and Comben.
I agree, in your scenario, unless something unexpected happens, I would not be looking to get Pittonet.

Spot on Rowsus. Not as easy as first thought. I have the Gawndy combo and have banked the two big captain scores and the Comden loop as enabled it easily. Loops can be extremely valuable points wise but that has to be weighed against cash gen.
In a complicated trade scenario, Pittonet will come in for me as a cash cow. I just need a rookie priced defender (eg Gould) to present. BZT (Thanks for the Starcevich loop last week) to rookie defender and then swing Comden to my forwards bench with Green out and Buderick into the mids. The cash gen of Pittonet for 4-5 weeks, hopefully means Comden can head back to R3 with Pittonet funding or even straight swapping to a forward premium.
In a shortened season its crazy not to be aggressive trade wise.

In the mix: Who's pushing for selection in round three?
JUNE 16, 2020

WHO IS a chance to play in round three?

In this week's In the Mix, brought to you by the Toyota WorkHorse Range, we find the players who are giving their selectors plenty of food for thought.

Who's going out, who's sore, who is under the pump? Our reporters attempt to pick all the round three ins. Check it out.

Expect a few changes for the Crows this week after their round two embarrassment at the hands of Port Adelaide. Jake Kelly has to pass a concussion test while a thigh injury could also rule out captain Rory Sloane. Among the other Crows who could be under selection heat include mature-age recruits Ben Crocker and Ben Keays, who were quiet last week. David Mackay, Bryce Gibbs and Ben Davis are among the possible inclusions for the Crows.

Verdict: Mackay could come in to add some experience if Sloane is ruled out. Davis will be considered to replace Kelly. - Cal Twomey

Debutant Tom Berry and leader Ryan Lester did little to disappoint last week after they were added to the Lions side, while Callum Ah Chee and Grant Birchall look settled in defence. It would likely see those who missed in Alex Witherden, Noah Answerth, Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Sam Skinner and Deven Robertson sit out again. Skipper Dayne Zorko (Achilles soreness) is the only concern on fitness.
Verdict: Unchanged, unless Zorko doesn't prove his fitness. Should that be the case, flip a coin on Ellis-Yolmen or Robertson. - Mitch Cleary

Could there be a debut this weekend? Carlton is rapt with the development of first-round draft pick Sam Philp, who could come in to contention after another promising display in Saturday morning's scratch match. Jack Silvagni will return from a bout of gastro and will likely replace last week's late inclusion Darcy Lang, who had just four disposals on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Tom Williamson is the obvious candidate to replace Nic Newman, who ruptured his patella against Melbourne and will miss the rest of the season. Zac Fisher and Paddy Dow are still at least another week away.

Verdict: Silvagni and Williamson in for Lang and Newman, with Philp an outside chance. - Riley Beveridge

Nathan Buckley will be debating whether Mason Cox is an automatic inclusion following his knee injury, given the promising display by club debutant Darcy Cameron last Thursday night. Jaidyn Stephenson could return, having bided his time on the fringes of the best team during the first two rounds, while Adam Treloar is an outside chance to be available after battling a calf injury. Josh Thomas might be a little nervous, having won only five disposals in another quiet performance in the draw against Richmond.

Verdict: Cameron to keep his place, with Stephenson to press for a return ahead of Thomas. - Riley Beveridge

The Bombers are hopeful Orazio Fantasia will be available for this weekend's clash with Melbourne after his minor quad strain. David Zaharakis could be in some danger of losing his spot if Fantasia gets through training. Patrick Ambrose was an emergency last week and will be considered, as might Brandon Zerk-Thatcher who is now available after his COVID-19 breach saw him suspended last week.

Verdict: If Fantasia is fit, Zaharakis' spot could be in jeopardy. - Cal Twomey

The Dockers could be forced into a reshuffle after losing No.1 ruckman Sean Darcy to a knee injury against the Lions. Rory Lobb is likely to assume the lead role against the Power with help from Matt Taberner, opening the door for key forward Jesse Hogan to finally return. Hogan impressed in last weekend's reserves scratch match along with the injury-prone Stephen Hill. A debut for ruck Lloyd Meek is another option for coach Justin Longmuir. Expect a conservative approach with Hill and Cam McCarthy, who was last week diagnosed with epilepsy after his training collapse.

Verdict: Hogan in for Darcy, Sam Sturt in for Brandon Matera and Nathan Wilson to return in place of an unlucky Hayden Young, who didn't do much wrong in his debut. - Chris Correia

Jake Kolodjashnij might well be given an extra week given the success of the backline against Hawthorn. Jed Bews appears closest to the edge in defence, but it'd be hard to see him being dropped before renewing acquaintances with Eddie Betts. The Cats are making Jordan Clark earn his spot, while Chris Scott admitted last week Jack Steven was no guarantee to face the Blues despite being available. Gary Rohan is the only watch after twisting his knee.

Verdict: Unchanged off the eight-day break. - Mitch Cleary

It's a strong position for the Suns who find themselves with a selection squeeze after their round. Co-captain David Swallow will be an automatic inclusion after serving his one-week suspension, while Brandon Ellis will also train in the hope of proving his fitness after his calf strain. Sam Flanders is also pushing for an AFL debut while forwards Peter Wright and Josh Corbett performed well in the scratch match with the Eagles last week.

Verdict: Nick Holman could be under some pressure with Swallow to return after gathering six disposals in the Suns' strong performance last week. - Cal Twomey

It will be interesting to see what Leon Cameron does this week after his near full-strength side was outplayed by the Roos in round two. It's most likely that he backs in most of the line-up, although Tom Green and Zac Langdon will be a chance to return after being dropped last week. Jackson Hately and Bobby Hill are others who pressed their case in the Giants' second-tier hitout against the Swans.

Verdict: Expect the Giants to keep the faith, as they should. Daniel Lloyd, who managed only five disposals last week, could be under some heat. - Cal Twomey

Jaeger O'Meara (facial fracture) completed contact training on Tuesday and is set to provide the Hawks' midfield with a boost. Harry Morrison and Paul Puopolo seem most in danger, given Ollie Hanrahan has comfortably outperformed the latter offensively. Whether they are willing to lose Puopolo's defensive prowess is the dilemma. Jack Scrimshaw is possibly relying on Ben McEvoy switching into the ruck at Jon Ceglar's expense, while Mitch Lewis likely needs to usurp Jon Patton or Tim O'Brien.

Verdict: Clarko backs his troops in. O'Meara in; Puopolo out. - Marc McGowan

Kozzy Pickett will return from suspension, most likely for Alex Neal-Bullen or Jayden Hunt. Luke Jackson moved well on debut but pulled in just one mark, so will be under pressure to keep his spot, with Sam Weideman and Mitch Brown each kicking five goals in the practice game against Carlton. Defenders Jay Lockhart, Michael Hibberd and Oscar McDonald are also waiting in the wings. It might be a week or so early for Aaron vandenBerg.

Verdict: Pickett and Weideman replace Neal-Bullen and Jackson. - Marc McGowan

Mason Wood has an opportunity to cement his spot up forward, with Nick Larkey (foot) to miss at least another three weeks. Marley Williams is free to play after serving his two-week suspension and will be eyeing Jamie Macmillan's spot, or possibly that of Kyron Hayden and Bailey Scott. There is a conga line of Kangaroos waiting for a chance, including Paul Ahern, Will Walker, Tom Murphy, Aiden Bonar and even Jack Mahony.

Verdict: Williams in for Scott. - Marc McGowan

Things are looking good for Port Adelaide, who won't make too many alterations after big wins against Gold Coast and Adelaide to start the year. So, how does Ollie Wines reclaim his place in the side? Whispers circulated that Wines wasn't in the Power's best 22 last week prior to his suspension. Therefore, there's a chance he could be made to bide his time again. There are concerns around Ryan Burton, who is battling a knee problem after the Showdown and will undergo a fitness test later this week. Jarrod Lienert will be on standby as his potential replacement, having impressed in a scratch match on Saturday. Mitch Georgiades could also be available following a calf problem - but finding someone to drop will be difficult, though.

Verdict: Lienert for Burton as the only enforced change, with Wines made to wait another week. - Riley Beveridge

Josh Caddy will look to prove his fitness after missing last week's draw with a minor calf complaint. The two-time premiership star trained on Tuesday and looks set to get the all-clear to face the Hawks. Sydney Stack is under the most pressure to keep his spot after having just four disposals against the Pies. Versatile tall Noah Balta was the standout in the scratch match and could come into calculations to provide a chop out in the ruck, although Ivan Soldo held his own against premier big man Brodie Grundy last week. Jack Ross will be very close, while Thomson Dow and Kamdyn McIntosh are next in the pecking order.

Verdict: Caddy in for Stack, with Ross desperately unlucky. - Ben Sutton

Jarryn Geary (hamstring) will miss but the rest of the side that beat the Dogs performed. Inclusions Nick Coffield and Nick Hind were solid, while there's no reason to change the ruck duo provided Paddy Ryder recovers well for the six-day break. Given Geary played forward against the Dogs and the back seven look settled, Dylan Roberton and Jimmy Webster may need to wait. It could leave the change down to Dean Kent, Jack Sinclair, Luke Dunstan or Josh Battle.

Verdict: Kent for Geary on balance. - Mitch Cleary

Ben Ronke (knee) snuck in about 80 minutes' game time in a scratch match against the Giants' reserves at the weekend and is pushing to return. Sam Gray and Justin McInerney could be among the vulnerable Swans. Besides Ronke, No.4 draft pick Dylan Stephens, ex-Roo Ryan Clarke and contested beast Chad Warner are contenders. Recruit Kaiden Brand appears to be keeping Lewis Melican out of the side, while the experienced Robbie Fox and draftee Will Gould are other options.

Verdict: Ronke for McInerney. - Marc McGowan

With Jeremy McGovern (suspended) to miss, premiership key defender Will Schofield looks the most likely replacement. Brendon Ah Chee (three disposals) was quiet, while Jackson Nelson's spot is under threat with Tom Cole fully fit. Wingman Jarrod Brander (12 disposals) was also shown up against the Suns. Luke Shuey looked sore at training early this week but is expected to be OK. Jake Waterman and Brayden Ainsworth look like they'll be next in line.

Verdict: Schofield, Cole and Waterman in for McGovern, Nelson and Ah Chee. Extra height in attack to stretch the Lions' undersized defence. - Mitch Cleary

After getting smashed by the Saints, the Dogs must find a proper stop-gap on the wing and get their key pillars sorted. With Easton Wood (quad) and Lachie Hunter (suspension) unavailable for the next few weeks, help will have to come from those on the outer. Coach Luke Beveridge has been careful to temper expectations on Tom Liberatore, while Toby McLean is down the pecking order in Beveridge's eyes.

Verdict: Zaine Cordy and Will Hayes replace Ryan Gardner and Billy Gowers. - Jourdan Canil

Yeah my problems with Pittonet is parking him at R3 and leaking points onfield which is a real concern for me, went through the same last season with ROB watching his points warm my bench when again rocking Grawndy.

Naismith has really screwed everything....................

Really has. Went Naismith to Gawn thinking Pittonet would give up a huge score and get hammered; the fist bit happened but not the second. Took sacrificing a mid premo to make the trade up, which meant I had to field McInerny's 48 :/ and burn an extra trade.

Now I can't get Pittonet in with only rookie corrections, only by sideswapping a premo down and up over two rounds so will be a reluctant pass for me.

After initially planning on going Green and Cavarra to Pittonet and Rivers/Cameron, I'm now considering a change of tactic to bring in a player who I feel as though will be a premium this season.

Now considering Doedee and Long to Pittonet and Simpkin.

Would instantly take away the worry of wondering whether Doedee and/or Long will turn out to be successful picks too as at the moment when I look at them both I get a sore head.

Thoughts?

Change of mind 438... Townsend to Stuart (only because townsend lost the midfield role) might wait to see if Green is selected and if not bring in Caldwell.

They might suddenly start cranking out good scores but if they are giving you mental anguish I would bid them farewell

Two questions:
- Does Noble keep is spot after a dud game?
- I'm likely to trade Sloane out if he's injured this week. That's ok, right?

Definitely going to do Doedee > Pittonet via B Williams

Question is who to cull to bring in D Cameron. I was thinking Bewley but I think I want to give him another run, other than that all my other options have negative BEs. If Sturt isn't named again I can move him on.

Is Cameron going to be that much better as a money maker compared to say T Brown that it's worth the trade?

After initially planning on going Green and Cavarra to Pittonet and Rivers/Cameron, I'm now considering a change of tactic to bring in a player who I feel as though will be a premium this season.

Now considering Doedee and Long to Pittonet and Simpkin.

Would instantly take away the worry of wondering whether Doedee and/or Long will turn out to be successful picks too as at the moment when I look at them both I get a sore head.

Thoughts?
Fantastic trades IMO. I never understood the interest in Long personally but Simpkin seems as likely as anyone to fill a breakout spot in our sides.

I’m not sure how I feel about Pittonet at the minute, ideally would have liked another look but I much prefer him to Doedee.
