I’m relieved to find I’m not the only coach struggling with trades!

They went from 30 to 24 in response to the season becoming 17 rounds. At the time I thought this was the correct call given Dreamteam prior to 2012 was always <24 trades. However the real killer lies with cash generation.

The discrepancy between a rookie and a premium is far too large for the number of trades we have available. Subsequently, the Magic Number is too high. A high MN essentially explains that players need to average less to maintain their price than a relatively lower NM, as such, we have seen far less “fallen premiums”.

Take Matt Rowell for example: Rowell was the 11th highest scorer prior to his injury, but is still some $200k off most midfield premiums at $550k, compared to being ~ $100k in SC at 450k.

So in the end we have more difficulty upgrading AND fewer trades!

FWIW I have 7 upgrades to complete with only 14 trades left  Taylor will be a keeper at this rate

This is an interesting way of looking at it.

I have struggled to figure out what’s going on in this comp - I think the MN may have adjusted without warning, or something along those lines.

I was going to trade apparent dead wood in B Davis for Aarts, but realized I can’t be essentially doing sideways trades on rookies with cash gen and trades so tight.

As a result I will have to chop Brander or note likely Budarick, risking future donuts to improve my on field 22.

If @Pearcey47 can think his way through this better than others, and have a bit of luck fall his way, it may actually be a big advantage this year.

Clearly this was a bad idea! Othwerise i am having a good round with Sicily finally lifting so very annoyed at myself for not just locking in Neale. The 'no 3 figures' on a captain score just didn't look right!
Yep I was stupid enough to pass on Neale as well in favour of Grundy... Stupid mistake.

Won't be making the same mistake in SC... Locking in Neale's 134 as we speak.

Yep I am already regretting a few “luxury” rookie sideway trades I performed in round 2.

BZT > Noble
Green > Bennell

2 wasted trades right there in hindsight

Thinking further regarding the MN, I think it would be correct if it were a 30 trade competition (or close enough).

However, having six less trades places it completely off the mark.

Imagine trying to complete a SuperCoach side this season with 24 trades.... that’s RDT!

In hindsight, super glad I held Fyfe & Whitfield

2x Wasted trades (Bewley in one week, straight out the next week)

5 upgrades left (6 if you include one of Viney & Pittonet) with 12 trades left (after this round)

Would assume most would be picking up Simpson + another rookie next week

Like many struggling in this format

After this week I have 12 trades left & $ 439,800.00 in the Bank.

Need to fix Rowell + upgrade 5 onfield rookies

Have 6 on my bench not playing this week.

Only players I currently have in Top 10 by average in each position are :-

Docherty , Ridley , Houston
Gaff
Grundy
Simpkin

Scrubbers are :-

B Smith
J Kelly , Macrae , Viney , Merrett , Whitfield
Pittonet
D Smith , Greene , Ceglar

so just hope they can all improve.

Round 7 King - > Simpson (via Whitfield)

Round 8 Taylor will become Bailey Smith

After that no idea at this stage , normally actually enjoy playing this format , certainly not so much this season.

Yes, it’s Back to the Past...and whilst I remember it being a real challenge to complete your team, I think we have now got used to the adittional trades and some enjoyment is removed by not having them. It’s hard to wean ourselves off them.

Just came back from a couple of weeks of grid with no internet connection. Went to 4th overall last week but didn't touch my team or change any VC/C/trades and this week looks dodgy.

No idea what's been going on these last couple of rounds, what is Rowells injury and what else do I need to know????

Pretty stuck this week so might just leave and take the hit.

Rowell definitely has to go I reckon.

Downgrade logjam next week, at least in SC. Stats below (SC prices straight after names, SC/DT scores after positions):

Simpson 124 mid 112/102 22yo 74+kg 7th game

Rankine 124 fwd 111/65 20yo 82kg

Day 153 def 92/58 19yo 70+kg

McPherson 124 mid 21yo 76/46 79+kg

Would also assume you’ll be getting B Smith in soonish, got knocked out for 1 last week and will be a steal.

Good summary @Darkie those who didnt captain grundy have a boost this week but a few popular players like Gaff and Hayden young will drag teams down. Thin backline benches will make McPherson a popular in and many coaches will go the double down in this format too id say. I have a reasonable number of warm bodies on my bench so I might try and go one up one down to squeeze and extra upgrade in on the pack. Bailey Smith on track for round 8 trade in for sure

1582 - which I'll take considering I didn't have access to trade/choose captains this week....will take a hit I think but at least I saved 2 trades.

Still have Rowell and a few other issues, Cripps might be a concern for me also
