World Cup Build Up

Inida require 35 with 3 overs remaining and 6 wickets in hand with their two best one day players in.
Great experience for Faulkner if he can stop them getting runs from here.

Personally I think Cam White not in the scene but George Bailey with 156 tonight, even though just another one dayer means he will be in the frame.
Yeah I by no means believe White is in with any chance of selection for the first test, just good to see him continuing some decent form.

Bailey has to have all but assured himself a baggy green.

A bit of a run down on what happened in the last ODI...

Even a heroic 57 ball century from James Faulkner couldn't help Australia chase down India's massive 383. India's total was set up by an amazing 209 from opener Rohit Sharma, during his innings Sharma hit a record 16 sixes and 14 fours. Australia were always behind in their chase with Aaron Finch falling for 5. The win secured a 3-2 series win to India with games 4 & 5 abandoned. Sharma was also awarded man of the series with 491 runs at an average of 122. Australia were also handed a massive blow to their ashes campaign with All-rounder Shane Watson injurying a hamstring. Watson will have scans Monday to reveal the extent of the injury but is in major doubt to be fit for the first test on Nov 21-25.

India 6/383
Sharma 209 Doherty 2/74 10 overs
Dhoni 62 Watson 0/26 5 overs
Dhawan 60

Australia 326
Faulkner 116 Shami 3/52 8.3 overs
Maxwell 60 Jadeja 3/73 10 overs
Watson 49
Haddin 40

That should sew up Faulkner and Maxwell spots for World Cup team next year.

Would not be surprised if in a years time India and Australia play off in the World Cup final.

Of course out here the pace bowlers will be a bigger factor than on the pitches that are roads in India and small boundaries.

I think Warner will be back in team by then too.

Looking ahead I expect squad to be something like this :

Bailey
Wade
Warner
Johnson
Faulkner
Maxwell
Watson
Finch
Voges
Paine
Patterson
Starc
Cummings
Mitchell Marsh
Hughes
McKay
Paine
Steve Smith
S Marsh
Doherty or Lyon

Would really like the experienced David Hussey and Clarke in there too but think selectors not interested.

Lynn , Hastings and Cutting I give a chance of making it too.

I like that you've gone to the extent of cloning Paine before putting Haddin in the squad :) I think they might be interestd in Clarke, given it's the World Cup. No love for Cam White? I assume you mean James Pattinson rather than Kurtis Patterson? Wouldn't mind seeing a few of the younger bowlers, Coulter-Nile, Hazlewood etc make it in but you can't pick everyone!

Hope you are right about Clarke but his back may have more say in this than anything. Yep, knew I forgot some other fringe chances like Coulter-Nile and Hazelwood but Hazelwood got canned by Cutting in Ryobi Cup final so I think he'll be right down pecking order after that. Yep, Pattinson I meant. As far as Cam White goes, due to last World Cup doing absolutely bugger all I hope they stamped his file as to never be considered again.

Starc is the man we need up and firing for this World Cup. I just sense he is the guy that can do the damage with the ball in a hurry and he has a great yorker when he is on his game which is crucial in dying overs. Kudos to selectors for picking Faulkner in last 12 months. He just goes from strength to strength as an all rounder.
It is annoying Watson did his hammies AGAIN. For a guy that has had problems in the past you'd think he'd give his body a rest but he has basically been playing Ashes, IPL 20/20 and every 20/20 tournament and one day series going on all year and keeps bowling.
Anyone see the India player pretending to be Watson in field yesterday and mimicking him hobbling around injured whilst batting?...lol... what an idiot....sometimes some younger Indian players come up with strangest antics on field. What was going on in his head to do it ?

Cutting is another one that should be getting his chance soon. Been performing strongly for a while now!

Yep, dissapointing to see the antics of Dhawan and Jadeja, definitely crossed the line, would imagine they will get a fairly hostile reception next time they come to Australia.

Thanks Australia A for bowing Cook and Carberry into top form on day one in the warm-up game. LOL
I am thinking ENG will open with these two and move Root back down into the middle order, probably at 6, to fix there slight problem in finding a number 6, and keep him away from the new ball.

A bit of an update on Shane Watson...

Cricket Australia physio Alex Kountouris has released a statement saying that the scans today on Shane Watson have confirmed a low-grade strain of his left hamstring. Kontouris says he is still positive about Watson's chances of being fit in time for the first test in brisbane on Nov 21

Morkol Clork is batting morvellous this orfternoon.
So to Davie Warner, unfortunately he just got out though for a brilliant 100.

Over to Pup now to get his, and how good is it to see Swan getting smashed for no wickets.

Coming 6th in sportal... Wasn't brave enough for Mitch C in Foxsports, but strangely brave enough for Warner C. Didn't see Trott's poor test coming though. Very 'weak'!

BIG NEWS!!

Trott heading home due to illness.

Jonathan Trott has left England's tour of Australia with a stress-related illness and will take no further part in the tour.

"I don't feel it is right I'm playing knowing that I'm not 100% and I cannot currently operate at the level I have done in the past," said Trott.

"My priority now is to take a break from cricket so that I can focus on my recovery. I want to wish my team mates all the very best."

Trott's decision has nothing to do with David Warner's comments, Daily Mail reporter Lawrence Booth says.

"Neither Cricket Australia nor Aussie players knew of his condition," Booth tweeted.

More to come...
