Pffft, that rule holds as much water as a tennis racquet. What a load of wishy-washy BS!

It's a rule designed to be interpreted 1,627 different ways (Rowsus may be able to find a few more) just to suit the AFL so they can pick and choose whether to fine a club for something they don't like.
Can't see how that would stop what Freo did, that clearly states a "legitimare competitive objective" includes "the management of player fatigue" surely it's reasonably easy to say by the end of the minor round players could be fatigued enough to warrant a rest when you know you've got finals coming up??

How many rookie forwards should one have in starting team?
I'm a firm believer that your starting team should be built around your rookies. It's really hard to give a solid number as we don't know if there's going to be good rookies across all lines.

For instance last year I started 2 Premos only in the back line but 5 Premos in the fwd line. Not due to the fact that I saw more value in the fwd line Premiums, but because there looked to be more value in the back line rookies.

Until we see some games and can gauge which rookies look to be getting game time, it's too hard to have a concrete structure yet.

Exactly the set up I had russ and for the exact same reason, but to help wolf out I have been having a look at who I potentially think are "value" players across each line. Have a look at fanplanner on fanfooty and determine yourself who you think may be unders or overs.

So far I have come up with:
1 premo-2 mid pricers- 5 rooks in the backs
3-2-5 mids
1-1-2 rucks
1-2-5 fwds

Yes I am well under budget, but it is a good starting point as to who you think will go up in value or at the very least hold value. Once the official prices and positions come out then I will fill the blanks. Hope this helps

Not long now before SC 2014 rules are revealed. Can't wait till January for access to SC Gold to have a go at picking the new team.

Hopefully more options for the forward line than we've had in previous years.

I'm not going to pick him, but Joe Daniher has a lot more opportunity to play senior footy this year with crameri and gumbleton gone. just a thought.

He's worth considering. He actually played 4 of his 5 games with Crameri, so Crameri leaving doesn't seem to help too much. He never played a game with Gumby, so that helps him a lot. ;)

Yeah, he's still learning the trade. Depends on his start price, could be a smoky to fill a forward SC spot.

Tomahawk as an early stepping stone? Doesn't have an especially easy early draw but will be relatively cheap (ave 66.6 in 2013, 94.8 in 2012).

Troubled by a back injury for much of 2013, Hawkins moved freely, and coach Chris Scott said he hoped his star forward's fitness did not become a weekly talking point.

"His training program is just the same as the other players," Scott said.

"It affected his football but is not a debilitating issue. If you saw Tom in the street, you wouldn't know he had a problem.

"We are really confident he can return to his best football.

"There was no surgery and nothing significant he needed to do. He has come back ready to start a full program, which is great."

Hawkins kicked 49 goals this year from 22 games, despite having had his explosiveness and ability to bend over restricted by injury.

The Cats' 2012 best-and-fairest winner battled inflammation around the joints and other back issues that flared up and settled down from week to week.

But Geelong hopes a prolonged rest from training and playing over the off-season break will be beneficial and kickstart his return to full confidence next year.

Wait and see with him. Way too big a risk with such a debilitating injury.
Yeah you're right, definitely a risk but at $350k or whatever he'll be, he could be next season's JJK..... or maybe Varcoe :( who apparently is in ripping shape this preseason lol

Useless. Cost us big time last year. Also with Tomahawk I'm just worried that he won't have the dominance in the air and on the lead that he had in 2012 which is why I'd want to see what his mobility is like before getting on him.

Fanfooty planner has Varcoe at 115K but that can't be right, can it?
If so, lock lock lock

If the DT leak is true regarding top 10 draftees having higher pricing than the rest, assuming SC follows suit then I can't lock in Boyd anymore :(

It's confirmed on the afl website so should be true. Don't think Boyd is worth picking regardless as key forwards never score too well, and especially a first year is highly unlikely to score well, as they will need to adjust to AFL/Reserves where defenders are all around the same weight as Boyd and he won't be able to impose himself as well. Also these defenders will be a lot smarter and give him less room. In a few years when he fully adjusts to afl then he may well be a lock, but I'd avoid for now. Hogan and Kersten I would consider more strongly however as they've been playing against men for a year/s and will be much cheaper. They should also get equal opportunities to Boyd IMO.

Especially about the lock part.
Haha on my never again list. Stupidly (very stupidly) saw some upside in him and used my last trade on him to avoid a donut and add a DPP link. Worst trade of my season and it was my last....still stings tbh
