Any love for Kade Simpson in the backline next year? He's averaged mid 90's in the last 5 seasons and rarely misses a game.

Yup definitely. Pretty close to a lock for me.

LOCKED!!! Every since about round 15 he has been for me. Was a while there where I thought no one was going to mention him back a couple of months but then his name was leaked on the site. LOL

He was excellent for Carlton this year, the best game being against Essendon in round 22 with a 144. Remarkably consistent, his 95 average is slightly unders in his new role as he was playing wing/HFF in the opening few rounds.

Having said all that, it's difficult to completely lock him in at this stage, and even though he's my favourite player at the club, if Walker stays down back too he'll average slightly more than Simpson again I think. Pricing for the 2 (based on Ablett at 620k) has Walker at 510k and Simpson at 457k, so it basically just comes down to choosing the guy who'll probably average 3-4 pts a game more over the season, or choosing the guy who starts the season 53k cheaper.

One of them in the backline though at season start for sure though :)

Does anyone here think with suckling coming back that it will affect birchalls scoring given they were both pretty even in terms of output previously before suckling got injured this year

The short answer is, yes. I do think it will have some affect on Birchall's score. :)

Speaking of Birchall, is anyone picking him in their starting team?

Spoilt for choice in the backline this year. Some really good options

Guessing you didn't trade him just before the byes last year lol. Man that was the worst experience ever. Never again list for me but I can see how teams will be tempted to start him.

I think someone mentioned Waters earlier but doesn't look too good for next year.

Premiership player Beau Waters is another Eagle who will be closely monitored throughout the pre-season after shoulder surgery.

Like Naitanui, Waters followed his 2012 All Australian season with an injury ravaged 2013. He managed just seven games and required both knee and shoulder surgeries after his last game in round 15.

Waters' recovery has been slower than expected.

"There was some initial post surgery issues that we needed to deal with," Vozzo said.

"We're on top of those. He's on top of them and he's now training with the main group as of this week and looking good.

"Again it was a graduated build up to main training. He's now in that and we'll monitor him very closely because he's a very important player."
