Hi mate ,

In between IPL thinking (to Hardik or not) was wondering if you have the final player rating positions for :-

Dangerfield
Dunkley
Dusty
Fyfe
Sidebottom
Whitfield
Zorko

I gather Marshall will just show as ruck

although I think I read last year that positions in finals count as well (think it was in reference to Danger)

Cheers

Hi Herbie, here's what I gathered from the summaries. As we saw with the Whitfield MID/FWD error a couple of weeks back, which was corrected the next week to DEF, I wouldn't be surprised if Fyfe and Danger had done enough to get MID/FWD and they are just not showing it.

Dangerfield MID (More to play out here I reckon)
Dusty MID/FWD
Fyfe MID (More to play out here I reckon)
Whitfield DEF
Zorko MID/FWD

Marshall listed as RUC, but yes, suspect he will be RUC/FWD.

Dunkley not in any of the summaries, suspect MID/FWD per HS article a couple of weeks back.

Sidebottom not in any of the summaries due to lack of games, but suspect MID/FWD per previous summaries when he made the games cutoff.

Remember finals count towards positions so Danger playing mids in the finals could ruin it.

Thanks for that.

Quick read of people's ideas for defenders next season see a lot of talk about Lloyd , Laird and Stewart but looks like Whitfield has been completely forgotten.

If Danger , Dunkley & Fyfe are all forward eligible good grief , won't be hard to work out starting F1-F3.

Wait for Sidebottom to drop.

Dusty/Heeney/Zorko to finish off the forward line.

No room for Buddy , Curnow , Joey , JZ , Sideshow Bob , the General , TJL , Tom Tom in my 2021 starting team then

Marshall with DPP seems the ideal R2 starting pick as well.

Might need to start researching some cheapish M3-M5 to afford them all though.

I hope Dangerfield gets M/F and has high ownership. Reckon he is well overpriced on what we can expect from him next season. I think the natural decline of aging has been somewhat disguised by the way this year has been played and we will see a drop off next year.
Be interesting if he is $ 620k +(think their was a discussion 2-3 seasons ago when he was F eligible whether to start him or wait for him to drop).

Given only 6 F eligible players averaged over 100 this season and Petracca , Greenwood , Whitfield & Brayshaw will more than likely lose their F status.

Maybe start Fyfe instead and then bring Danger in when Fyfe gets his injury.

I guess we still think Danger will end up at least 100-105 + next season.

an intersting point on ages during 2021 season:
Zorko 32
Danger 31
Fyfe 30
Dusty 30

Most will probably end up in our sides at some stage, but it will be a battle between the fairly priced premiums who are approaching the twilight years of their careers (who no doubt will end top 10) vs value picks & breakouts that dictate how many end up in our starting squads.

and Sidebottom turns 30 in January.

Danger , Dunkley , Dusty , Fyfe , Heeney , Marshall , Sidey , Zorko if all F eligible doesn't leave too much room for breakouts (didn't they all breakout this year ?)

Certainly will be a balancing act on who to start given if we go set n forget Rucks + Seagull + 2/3 of Macrae , Mitchell , Neale , Oliver etc

Maybe their is breakout/value potential in the mids next year ?

I agree with this however that did not stop him crushing me in a number of GF match-ups.

Speaking of forwards

12th in total points for this season for F eligible players was Chad Wingard
This makes me want to vomit. Hated the pick all season, but was never able to trade him out. A forced injury trade would have been welcomed in many respects.

But credit to him for playing every game - says alot about the high performance team at the Hawks I reckon.

It would be interesting to see how many teams finished with 6 of the Top 10 forwards by aggregate (but I guess that depends when they were in your team and how well they scored and doesn't take into account form fluctuations)

Petracca , Hawkins , Greenwood , Whitfield , Brayshaw , Martin , Simpkin , Bailey Smith , Gray & Dixon.

Only 2 were over $ 500k at the start of the season.

Brayshaw & Simpkin in the $ 300,000.00's (stay away from midprices many say)

Petracca , Greenwood , Brayshaw , Simpkin & Smith justified the pre season hype.

Hawkins didn't feature much in pre season talk , even less with Charlie , who would have thought old Wobbie Gray would have ended up Top 10.

Wingard was heavily criticised throughout the season but I would be happy with a forward 12th on aggregate.

Goin' to be an interesting year if we get all these new fwd premos. Probably better having a few in mids and picking up cheap KPFs with proven history over the 300-400k mids who potentially break out.

Darkie asked this question and I'd be keen to hear peoples views. I don't mean to put you on the spot stephen, oops, but I consider you a very good coach.

Some interesting points made.
One thing that I was pondering yesterday - I know some excellent players almost always start the dearest players on each line.
Can anyone in this category (no need to be modest - consistent ranks at/around top 1000 would qualify you) say whether they do this even if a player is overpriced in their view?
If so, how much are you willing to overpay by before you change tack?
In 2014 Danger was priced at 113 and finished third forward on aggregate with an average of 105. Not a value pick but probably still a good pick playing every game.

I've already heard some say Lloyd is a must have even though he is probably 10 points over priced.

I was also wondering what sort of guidelines people use?

I am amazed at how many people send price requests to Brice Mitchell, but don’t seem to be able to muster a ‘please’ or a ‘thank you’.

Maybe my expectations have been set high, based on the way people behave on this site.

I always avoid overpaying where possible so don't consider myself in the camp of SCers who are willing to start the dearest players on each line, but I am always happy to pontificate on this subject as it is one of my favouites.

I think an example like 2014 Danger is pretty much a wash. I wouldn't start him if I knew that was the result, but it was perfectly ok if you did. When the rookies are good and cash is flowing then we are all able to finish teams and it doesn't make a huge difference in the end.

I am expecting (and hoping) that next year cash is hard to come by and things play out a little differently than we are used to, so hopefully getting the most out of every dollar at the start is rewarded.

I predict Danger to go 100ish with a pretty high variance and be available cheap at some point. Lloyd is so consistent that he seems less likely to reward you for not picking him but I am still unlikely to start anyone at that price who I don't regularly captain. Those picks are more about who else is available on the line and if you have cash spare but I am always grumpy if I back myself into the corner of picking them.

Rucks are the obvious ones where there has to be a viable option to be able to successfully avoid the expensive guys but there is no way I will shell out for Gawn. Or Neale. Those two are the ones who normally paying up is worth it (rucks and C choices) but I just think this year was too strange and they outperformed their normal best by too much to make them viable.
