He will be given the opportunity in Rd 1.
I think that if he rediscovers his 2011 form, he'll be a great addition to the Swans defence and SCers.
Mattner is now an assistant coach at the Swans and Laidler is said to be his on-field replacement so a lot of hopes on Laidler.

What are peoples thoughts on Jeremy lailder playing consistently?

Anyone got any thoughts on Brodie Smith (Adelaide). Priced at $407,500 with an average of 75.56. Have a vague memory of reading that he may spend more time in the midfield????

Too high a price to pick him.

Quality player but I think he will be a gradual improver rather than a breakout player and will slowly climb to premium levels.

Agree with av1jme and Nk29 will improve but prob not the value we are looking for in an initial team.

There's another defender in Adelaide named Brodie Martin, is under $200K.
Is he worth taking on?

Hope he can. LOL
From a SC point of view probably won't score too well but with the interchange cap I can't see him being rotated too often and the fact that he might get a game is nearly too good to pass up with a DEF rookie. :)

I'm interested if anyone has any thoughts on GWS players who could have a Trent mcKenzie style break our in their third year. Eg Trent went from 60's av to low 80's average last season. With opposition focus like to be on shutting down Heath Shaw I wonder if someone could benefit?

To be worth a gamble they would have to have had a solid game average in their first 2 seasons. IF they were classified as a mid there isn't much point looking at them but 4 defenders come to mind who fit this category,

Curtly Hampton - don't know much about him but he is my tip to go up 20ppg or so.

2012 - 17 games at 56.1
2013 - 18 games at 64.2

Tom Bugg (18 games at 69, 14 games at 54), Adam Kennedy (15 games at 53, then 19 games at 57), Nick Haynes (8 games at 37, 11 games at 64) are the others that spring to mine but Curtly seems to be the one with the class. Anyone who knows about GWS care to comment.

Clearly there is fairly significant risk with this approach but we all like to find THAT breakout player!
I've taken the liberty of giving this a bump as I'm interested to know if anyone else has Curtly on the watchlist or if I'm going insane by considering him!!!:D
I really think shaw will get a lot of attention and Curtly could pick up some solid SC improvement. Could Curlty = Trent Mckenzie of 2013???

Hampton wouldn't be in my top 50 defenders.

I think he'll improve this year but will he reach the heights of McKenzie?....not too sure. Also at 350K is priced awkwardly.
It also depends how GWS go this year. Last year their team SC scores were poor. If they continue to get trashed by teams, I think Shaw, Mumford, Ward, Greene, and Whitfied will be the top point scorers and the rest will linger around the 40-60 mark.

I started with Curtly Hampton 2 seasons ago as a cash cow and was a little disappointed. He seemed to try and take it on to much, when ever he got the ball, instead of the first option he would try and be flashy then often got caught.
Have to agree though, he looked a whole lot better last season and is one to monitor through his pre season.

Another guy who I think should improve and his numbers increase is Mitch Golby.
Would like to get some feedback on this guy.

Golby is an impressive player that has the right age profile to be a breakout player (aged 22). All breakout players are risks so can't be recommended even if you rate them. Golby would at least be a realistic throw at the stumps though.

I'm a big fan of how he approaches the game, he definitely has plenty of room for improvement but alot of it is reliant on Brisbane getting their hands on the footy, some thing I think they can do with a lot of young players starting to show potential. They're not going to be world beaters but will show improvement.

Thanks Creeker and Av1jme for providing some constructive feedback. :) For what it's worth I don't think I'll pick him even though I think there is some evidence that he will improve. I thought he was an interesting comparison to McKenzie given last year given they have similar hisotrical averages and are/were both in their 3rd year at expansion clubs playing off the HBF.

Re: Golby I was thinking about him too but the early draw for Brisbane is putting me off all of their players a bit ATM

I can't believe I haven't at least seen Shannon Hurn's name been thrown around.

Touted as playing more midfield under Simpson, in the leadership group and also suggested as a possible replacement for skipper Darren Glass once he retires in 2014 or steps down.

Take out the sub affected game where he got injured early and he averaged 92, but is priced at 85.

An easy draw for the Eagles, coupled with a fit and firing Hurn who we all know is more damaging in SC than Dreamteam he must surely be a watch if not a near lock for a POD D3-4 position (even at this early stage)

 SHHHHH!!!!! DELETE! DELETE! DELETE! - Don't let everybody in on ALL the good value players!

...... now I only have one hidden gem left! :)

A Def gem I've only seen mentioned on this site 3 times since Oct 2013!

and no, I won't be revealing this one, or giving clues! :)

Funnily enough, I have Hurn in my team, BUT that's not the player I'm talking about!
