Great squads. On an unrelated note, my shield fantasy team just lost 7 of its starting 11 players. Get 4 trades max a round so this is going to be a scramble at best.

Interestingly, yesterday I heard along the grapevine (originally from state players) that the vast majority of players want to cancel the rest of the Shield season. With the two squads away for internationals, a combination of a depleted competition and players well and truly feeling the toll of hub life after the first few games of Shield in Adelaide leading into the Big Bash.

Only 6 out of the 9 in the T20 Squad are best suited to opening.

Got excited when I saw Agar's name , didn't think Ashton was due back

Good to see Behrendorff , Meredith & Sangha rewarded.

Finch
Wade
McDermott
Maxwell
Marsh
Stoinis/Turner
Agar
+ 3
Zampa

No idea what sort of bowling loads Jhye is doing at training , almost would have left him home and see if he is ready to play Shield cricket.

Test Squad

Carey in for Wade
Steketee added

I am sure the media will want Carey to play as a specialist bat , so then can take over the gloves & captaincy from Paine for the Afghanistan test.

That doesn't sound too ridiculous to me. Its not just 2 squads of players, it's extended squads due to covid as well. The bowling line up's for all the states have taken a hit, but QLD and NSW have it the worst.

QLD will be missing Neser, Swepson and Steketee from their first choice XI (Bartlett would be leading that attack now in his first shield season).
NSW will be missing Abbott, Starc and Lyon (and Moises was providing support too)

Shocked that Ashton Turner made the squad - highest score in the big bash in 14 games is 39 (yes batting at 6 makes it hard but still not great), got dropped from the Sheffield Shield team this year as his form was so poor. Cutting really should of been selected ahead of him if they wanted another power hitter in the middle order I think, had a much better tournament.

Interesting you mention this, I thought Turner was one of the luckier ones (noting limited opportunity).

They’re arguably lacking a fast bowling all rounder unless we can be confident that Marsh or Stoinis are able to do the job.

Actually don't mind the Turner selection (good to see they have actually picked a specialist and not just gone another opener).

Probably won't play suspect Marsh , Maxwell & Stoinis will be 4-6.

Wonder if Silk was seriously mentioned , his transformation from last season has been amaxing.

Agar at 7 (if fit)

3 quicks + Zampa

Maxwell & Stoinis provide the 6th & 7th bowling options.

Would have like to seen Fraser-McGurk & Harvey included just if it is for exposure to the National Squad setup , I guess the selectors don't see the advantage in that.

Don't think Sams can fill that role ?

I know he’s old, and may not be expecting to be considered, but I reckon Christian would be additive to that squad.

I get that it’s an opportunity to pick younger guys, and they’ve done a pretty good job on that basis. Looks pretty solid despite the Test squad being missing.
Last played a T20I in 2014.

16 matches , Average 6.75

11 wickets @ 28.81.

Think if he was preferred to Marsh & Stoinis , then Australian cricket is in a very bad way in my opinion.

I don’t know that he’s in the best XI, but I think he’s better than some of that squad on form and on overall record.

That’s probably fair. I see him as more of a front-line bowler who can (sometimes/currently) bat. It will be interesting to see how he goes batting at international level.
Fast bowlers are all interesting.

Hard to see which 3 get the first crack (those NZ batsman could smash all of them)

Behrendorff , Meredith , Richardson x 2 , Sams , Tye

5 game series so hopefully they rotate them to give them all a opportunity

If Agar is fit we bat fairly strong (on paper) to 7.
