Maybe I am just old and can't accept how these modern day forwards are considered superstars when they average less than 2 goals a game and are probably getting paid $ 700 - $ 900k a season
Daniher 108 games , 191 goals
Even in 2014 - 2017 his season goal tallies were 28 , 34 , 43 & 65.
The worry for me is those 15 games in the last 3 seasons , I guess at his price in SC if he is named Round 1 , we start him , first sign he breaks trade him.
I can only dream of those good old days when forwards were kicking 4+ each and every game.
Ablett , Dunstall , Lockett etc used to kick more in a game than some teams kick in a match these days.

Daniher has been goaless in 22 games and only kicked 1 goal in 30 games , so in almost 50% of his games he has kicked no more than 1 goal a game.
In 12 games he has kicked 4 or more.
Be interesting to see how he gels with Hipwood.
Not sure what the % is of how many times Hipwood is the target I50 for the Lions , whether it is as high as Dixon at Port and what Riewoldt was at Richmond.

I remember him being in my first couple of draft teams in 2018 before the injuries started to hit and a terrible preseason. Rate him absurdly highly and, importantly, the Lions medical staff also has been phenomenal. Basically I thought he could go higher and was value when priced at 86. That's how highly I rate him.

Not sure what Butters is going to do this year but I like him better as a breakout pick than anyone else priced below 90, especially if he gets moved to spend more time in the midfield. He is a tough player, but perhaps too skinny at the moment to play inside mid, so it's an interesting one. According to an AFL article from a few weeks ago he and Rozee were both training more with the mids in preseason and Butters looked particularly impressive. Fantasia's arrival probably means one of them has to spend more time up the ground.
Averaging 87 as a flanker is pretty impressive by Butters in his second season, but I'm not sure if Port will be quite "as good" this season, should still be around top 4 but think they had a lot of players at their best and a few of the important older players might see some decline. He might not get the same amount of score involvements and goal assists as a consequence when playing forward. He's currently in my side as a pod and as a cheaper player to Dusty, who I feel is guaranteed a 100 average, but almost invariably starts slow.
Shai Bolton is another one to consider, but in his final 10 games where he more or less played pure midfield, he only averaged 92.4, not really making him good value or showing much upside for a guy priced at 86. And that was with no Prestia in the side.

Not sure I compared the 2 players.
Be interesting how the mind set of their players could change with an alternate target and how long it takes for the forward line to gel.
Didn't think they could get worse as a team with their goalkicking inaccuracy but the AFL might need to employ a full time behinds umpire for their games 😀
I am sure this season the commentators will still talk about Hipwood's potential and comparing him to Buddy.
One day potential needs to stop and he has to start delivering consistently.

Think Butters was a lot more consistent and realistically a lot better last year, both are incredibly talented and skilful. Throughout juniors and now at AFL level Butters has had a tremendous ability to provide goal assists.
Rozee was the one who played more midfield last year, not always to good effect either. Butters on other hand was essentially one of their best players and was very good as a forward. The question is just whether he will see an uptick in scoring if he plays midfield.
