I'm actually able to sit down and have a think about what might happen with the players in tonight's match. Take what I say with a grain of salt, but I thought I'd lend a hand to those who are looking for an edge in the last two rounds. I've given the Heat a crack, I'll try and do the Scorchers before kick off, but no promises.
Heat
Lynn: Overdue for a score, however will come up against some pretty stiff bowling tonight and will need to take extra care vs the early threat of Richardson and Behrendorff. If you are looking to captain him, I'd be cautious, as I suspect if he scores runs, it will be at a run a ball for his first 40-45 runs.
Denly: Think he's more likely to play properly tonight after looking like a right idiot in his dismissal during the last match. Think we'll see him tighten up and play a better innings against some quality bowling. Unsure whether to back him, as I may just opt for an allrounder over him.
Marnus: Think he'll perform well with the bat tonight, but get absolutely slaughtered with the ball. That said, as safe a captain choice as any in this match based on recent form.
Heazlett: I can't really see him replicating his last match form as the Thunder were absolutely horrendous in that 2nd half of the innings. I don't believe the Scorchers will allow him to get away with a slow start. However, as he is likely to bat 4 again, he is worth a look.
Peirson: Has been in great form in the finals thus far with two 40+ scores with the bat. Think he is worth the punt, if only for the potential dismissals he will take. I however, will not be a hypocrite and heed my advice from earlier in the pre-season thread.
Burns: I'm surprised Burns was shunted to 6, but it was a masterstroke from the Heat. This means really bad things for Burns' SC scores, but I think he will definitely get a look in tonight. He's my smoky for a 40+ score tonight. Seems to find catches as well, so may not be the worst player to take a punt on.
Gregory: All signs point to Gregory continuing to get less and less opportunity in this team and its hard to see him getting the overs he needs to be a strong scorer. I really want to say he's going to get a good score tonight based on logic, but I can't find a reason other than a feeling that he scores well. I will be trying to fit him into my line up, but suspect many will pass him up.
Swepson: Lock for this one after he bailed himself out of trouble last match. Looked troubling since his return to the Heat.
Steketee: Possible fade given I don't see him going through the Scorchers top order. Would rather back someone else for this match.
Bartlett: Lynn's comments are interesting, but I'm not sure how Bartlett is going to go if Livingstone and Roy get through the first 2 overs without getting out. Predicting a bloodbath. Would avoid despite signs pointing to Bartlett finally getting the golden opportunity.
Morkel: Bowled decently without a lot of luck. Haven't got a feeling either way for the big fella. If he's straight into the XI tonight, you can probably take a punt on him as he might actually get to bowl overs with a newer ball. If he's the x-factor, probably give him a miss.
Laughlin: Honestly think he gets dropped tonight for Wildermuth. Hasn't been bad since coming back, I just think Wildermuth needed a rest and this was the way the Heat facilitated it.
Wildermuth: Think we will see him play tonight, even just for the added batting he provides. Believe he needed a bit of a rest after a lot of cricket recently with Aus A and playing the majority of the BBL games. Very tempted to play him if selected in the XI.
