Only real counterpoints I'd offer up on him is the following:

That 112.5 is sensational but yielded only 102 SC, and his disposal has gotten worse since that season, can he actually reach those heights again?

Durability is definitely something to mention, missed 6 last year, ~10 his first year and another game in 2018. If 105 is required, which is where I think you're in the winning lane, missing a couple of games makes that really difficult.

Tom Green, who looks a much better player on the limited sample, especially for the role that helped produce that 112 season. I don't think being more outside is good for Taranto who relies a lot on tackling and is hurt significantly whenever he is kicking it. Throw in Hopper with a couple of years development and it's two guys who certainly are at least possibly in his way and, more likely, probably in his way.

Taranto's situation actually reminds me a lot of Jack Viney heading into 2017, it wasn't that he got worse or even that his role was hugely different but when a talent like Oliver storms past you it just leaves you picking up the crumbs and, imo, Tom Green is one of those talents and that fact scares me with Taranto given his scoring history and what he needs to produce. Having watched them both it's not a matter of if but when Green takes over their main inside role (and that goes for Jelly as well).

I'm really hoping one of the teams put that game up though as I really want to watch it given how many fantasy relevant players are in it and I'd love to watch Taranto and see how he looks because, fundamentally, I agree with what you've written on the value and his basic scenario, would be great to get a few more pieces of the puzzle as he's got the potential to be a massive headstart pick if he does work.

Said it before but anyone with the balls to take that pick deserves the rewards when it works.
Taranto just isn't a good enough kick to ever go much over 100 in SC, have alot more faith in Green's ball use and you're banking 100k with the selection, was the far more impressive player on the weekend from my eyes.

Midfield is a pretty risky place to be hoping guys break out for mine, its also consistently the best area for scoring rookies wouldn't want any more than one mid pricer personally.
Agree - currently I'm back to one in the mids.

Personally it depends on having a viable alternative to Gawn or Grundy. It's amazing what the extra dollars can do in terms of upgrading rookies to promising breakout options.

I get what you mean, but will it be confirmed that Tom Green gets more than 6 games with Tarranto back?

I like Tom green more, but then again who has the higher and lower roof?

SC, higher ceiling for mine is Green, the Oliver comparison isn't just a lazy "they're both gingers" comparison, he can legit hit 110+ this year, imo. That said, Green is also much higher risk, I think Taranto is going to be mid 90s this year, he's capable of pushing 110 with a few things falling his way. Basically Taranto should make cash and is a far more proven commodity and if Taranto does make 105+ it's almost certainly coming at Green's expense (the opposite is also true). Green could end up out of the side if he's not the player that I think he is from a pretty limited sample size in a team that deep.

DT it's Taranto all day though.

That extra 100k discount though sure does make Green a bit more appealing if you go with the most reasonable outcome that they both end up in the same range which is probably the most realistic outcome for mine, wouldn't be surprised if they're both mid 90s guys.

Got it cheers, yeah i feel the same about green now but the main problem for me is likebu said the small sample. Who knows though, 2 weeks to go and i could go eother way, the 100k cheaper Green would definitely be great but if there is a worst case scenario where Green ends up a mid 90s player thats still good value for someone that cheap, as far as im concerned.

Will have to wait and see

On the contrary I actually think green will be the giants best midfielder this year
Big bull
Great by hand
Will feed jelly Whitfield cogs all day long

Hopper is also a bull but has never set the world on fire
He burrows in and isn’t an accumulator
Green is a pig
He broke records in the juniors for contested numbers and his huge game late last year showed he can do it in the big league much like Hayden young

Taranto will be a good option too but like the weekend he and cogs will play a fair bit forward
Both the best options down there
Jelly will always be stuck like Merrett on a wing at times
Green won’t have those issues
Ward is gone to half back and I feel like his predecessor Oliver he will be around the ball as much as possible!

When SC opened I had in my head a bunch of young blokes who my eyes had told me were too good not to improve. I said this is the year that you just pick them. Don't be influenced by the masses on SCS and various other places, stick to your guns!

Here I am not just reading, but posting. And being influenced. ;)
Think I know what you mean. We seem to be in the midst of many early 20's talented footballers ready to springboard to stardom across the league. Some of these guys are going to be SC staples for years to come. I don't think you derail your season by picking one but unless you have a history of very good judgment proved correct it is more likely to not come off than to be successful.

Out of curiosity who are your favs?

At various times I've had H. Clark, Lukosius, Walsh, Daicos, Green, Rozee and Bailey. I'm currently off Lukosius (role uncertainty) and Rozee because of the foot.

I didn't see or hear anything of note on Clark from the praccy, but he did attend a good number of centre bounces. Walsh's move into a more inside role late in the year not only gives me confidence in his ability to deliver, but also that of Daicos. He is a much better kick than Walsh, and he just oozes class. Can also kick goals when resting forward. If Green played for a side with a weak midfield (like Oliver in his 2nd year) then the decision on him would be easier. Brisbane, like a lot of sides want more pace in the middle. Rayner has had a lot said about him this preseason, but surely his tank can't have improved that much? Bailey will probably get moved around a bit, but will hopefully spend a lot more time around the stoppages. We might be surprised when some supposed midfield staples get moved out of the inside roles, to facilitate the addition of extra speed and better kicking. Carlton look like shifting Curnow and Setterfield for this reason, and I could see Lyons for example treated similiarly.

I like the Walsh, Green picks myself. McLuggage is another of interest but Neale & Lyons are such ball pigs and Berry getting better too so I probably won't pick him. The young Freo mids will be interesting.

Don't know what to make of the whole Daicos & De goey in the midfield yet. Tbh I haven't watched Daicos really but it would have been good to see a fit De goey & Adams lining up in the preseason games so we could get an idea of how the Collingwood mids will look.

You make some very solid points about the potential roles of others at GWS, I agree with your summary but we cannot underestimate the Leon Cameron factor.

Green does seem a fun pick, and I'm sure they'll be a sideways/downgrade move on the table should he not look like being the pick we want him to be.

Fyfe or Jelly? Or both?

Currently looking at picking 3 of Oliver, Macrae, Bont, Zerrett, Jelly and Fyfe.

Depending on the day of the week currently depends on who is in my side.

I started Fyfe and jelly last year
The bonus is they never lose value as they score so well, so when the inevitable injury comes you can bring in anyone you want. Also the flip side is if they don’t get injured you’re on a winning horse.
I personally think jelly is primed to go 120+ this year

Games moving to a more running mobile game rather then slow stoppages ✅
Contract year ✅
Proven ceiling ✅
Prime age ✅
He’s the kind of pick that can make you up thousands of spots in a month of averaging 140+

But I think it’s probably better to start 1 of the pair. Put 2 proven studs around him like Neale and Macrae and it’s potentially the top 3 mids from the get go

If he plays like he did against Sydney again in this weeks nab game he’ll be in way more then 10% or teams
Just a shame it was like 6 before that game. People don’t miss anything anymore. There is that many podcasts and Twitter pages dedicated to supercoach so pods and unique picks aren’t common anymore. It’s gonna take a lot of luck in this age of supercoach
