Given we've already got Ziebell, Daniher, Cahill and Impey as very strong on-field options (so I think all are likely 65+ guys) most are only going to need 2-3. Will ignore those over 140k but if there's a year to be taking them on the bench it could be this year where I think getting the best cows is going to be worth the premium quite often and there are a handful in this group.

Rowe - Not sold he's a consistent 65+ guy but should have a solid month at that level, good JS it would appear and cheap. Just needs a game where he kicks 3 and scores an 80 and he'll do his job.

Henry - Think he's likely going to be a high 50s guy but his role was very good, think Tom Lynch at the Crows type role, and as a burst leader his skillset should hold up better at the AFL level than the more traditional power KPF guys in his first year. Style of play that can also burst a 65+ month I think. Seemed to have a role somewhat like Stephenson as a rookie.

FMacrae - Haven't seen him but if he's as like his half-brother as everyone keeps saying that's a solid indicator.

Smith - Played wing, couple of years in the system, looks physically ready. Mid also so probably gets picked there.

Jones - Similar to Henry but played a fair bit deeper. Think he struggles to score and is more of a 55 type who you hope can kick a few in a game and get the 80 to spike into a 65 month. JS perhaps the question but he looked good.

Evans - JS the big issue, think he makes way but if he's there, small forward in a strong team has produced some good scores. Not top of my list.

Bergman - If named and the JS looks acceptable he's a very strong choice as a HB/Wing type. JS is his issue though.

Ralphsmith - He looked the goods filling in for Houli, would need some kind of clarity that they're going to ease him back and miss the first month though for me to pick him. Think the scoring would be there though.

Brockman - Think his JS should be decent, fits a very clear need and with Wingard unlikely early on that just strengthens the case. Showed enough to me to think he can score in the 60s. Not expecting a lot of consistency though.

Scott - Not sold on the JS or the scoring potential but he's a bit more mature aged and they elevated him for a reason you'd think.

Waterman - Still has to get into the round 1 team but from there he's a good bet, don't love the scoring potential but like the other more KP types think he can smash out an 80 or two to spike his price. JS the question mark but mature aged and absolutely ready physically so that doesn't hurt.

I don't expect we see all of that list and admittedly there's only a couple I think are solid 65 potential types but I think they're all in play and expect we see somewhere around half to 3/4 of them, I think going for guys who can spike scores is the best bet, I would think the ZDIC is going to be very common and 4 of the last rookies upgraded this year so hopefully we wont need to play any of the forward benchies as it does fall away for mine after the benchies.

Dow and Campbell are probably the pair to head towards if you're starting an extra forward and stick to the above list as bench options.

Thanks. Loving the discussion between pizzasafety and yourself.

Any view on Lachie Young at North. Not in my team although question is if he is an option.

Whether optimistic or not, think we are backing these premium rookies in, no other choice I expect. Alternative will be $200-350k players who could clog our teams. Happy to back skilled player and role, preseason data ok guide although not brilliant forecaster.

If anything, risk is Daniher, excl injury risk, Brisbane hard start and not sure he has played this season on a good backman. Dropped out to upgrade Duggan to Mills. If we have 5 premiums with no Whitfield, bit risky with a Williams or Duggan if there is another bolter.

Mills better chance of matching a bolter, although yet to assess scoring rate in midfield role.

Thanks for that.

I have just set up Dow at M4 for the moment until the Community Series games.

Dow * , L Young * , Phillips , Campbell * , Powell / E Smith * , Downie , Gulden
Hi herbie, how many premos do you have in defence and forward if you have Dow at m4?

4 Premiums + Harmes in defence
Gawn & Grundy
Ziebell at F1

Dow (M5 now) , Campbell , Powell , Macrae / E Smith , Downie , Gulden

not sure if McNeil is named

$ 578 k in the bank to either upgrade 1 rookie to premium or 2 to Green & Caldwell

could well be more forward & midfield rookies than we actually need so depending on who plays Community series easier to just place the majority at the moment then adjust accordingly.

If Flynn & McEvoy both 🔥 in the Community Series games everything will change again

Him going to another club and dominating would be the pinnacle moment of agony following nearly 20 years in the wilderness.

I feel like it will happen in destiny only to annoy us fans and to contribute to the curse that the dark wizard Leigh Matthews put upon us in 2001 and from which we have not been able to emerge.
What is this curse you speak of? Please elaborate

ZDIC , Henry , ? , / Rowe , Waterman

If I go a premium forward it will be Heeney.

Danger pencilled in for a mid spot to start with.

Could very well be 8-15 (maybe more) viable forward rookie options named Round 1 by the looks of things.

No guarantees they will be their Round 2 and beyond though 😀

Could be a case of loading up as many forward and mid rookies from the start , saving $$$ then grab the bolters in Round 3 & 4.

I'm guessing the C in ZDIC is Cox seeing as you have Campbell in the mids? I'd consider shifting him into defence if you prefer the fwd rookies.

Just read this about Gulden :-

The diminutive midfielder is a ball magnet who rarely fumbles, kicks goals and puts his teammates in better positions.

Gulden put together a standout junior career, impressing at every level he played at, posting KFC SuperCoach scores of 245, 177 and 149 at the under-16 national championships and 168, 131 and 105 in his three bottom-age NAB League games in 2019.

Then he averaged 88 points in three NEAFL matches as a 17-year-old.

More info on him with his Draft Profile :-

Charlie Lazzaro
Geelong Falcons, NAB League / St Marys
Height: 179cm
Weight: 73kg
25/03/02
Small midfielder who is outstanding around stoppages and winning contested ball, using his vision and clean hands to create for his teammates. Courageous and with a great work ethic he was a consistent ball winner for the Falcons in his bottom aged year averaging 20 disposals in eight matches. His agility tested in the rare category with his 7.98 seconds for the AFL Agility run in the Victorian preseason testing. Started the trials this year in great touch averaging 27.5 disposals,6 clearances and 8 tackles in 2 trials for the Geelong Falcons.

My interpretation of what Brown has said today :-

Powell is a big chance a debuting round 1, if he performs well again in North's next practice game I think we can lock him in.

Lazzaro is very much in the mix for round 1, if he has another solid game then he could well squeeze into the 22 round 1.

Phillips is no chance of playing round 1, might debut later on in the season.
