Do we have a tab in the sheet showing players available in the open Preseason draft? I can see tabs for FA Auction, RFA, 2nd Contract but not everyone else. Undrafted players tab seems to have every player listed even those currently with contracts? Apologies if I'm looking in the wrong spot
2021 DRAFTABLE PLAYERS tab added to Teams doc

Confirmed and locked in Monday night in the diary for me.

Just thinking out aloud here, if we can't find a time we are all free for the pre season draft, how about a slow burn draft over the week?
So open the draft on Tuesday and the next person picks when each person is next online, and maybe PM's the next person to say there pick is up next.

Not as exciting as doing it with everyone live; but we are all addicted enough to SC that I reckon we will get through the draft by the end of the week.

I’d be open to this. We could also try a WhatsApp group if we want something that isn’t too intrusive but provides an immediate notification.

I have a question about a hypothetical situation that I'm not sure has been covered.

Squad sizes are 44. Obviously with expiring contracts etc teams will have a number of list vacancies to fill. Before any extensions I have a list of 33, so 11 spots to fill.

I have 7 Preseason draft picks. For the sake of example, if I were to be unsuccessful in bids during the FA and RFA Auctions, I could face a situation where I have more open list spots than Preseason Draft picks available. I imagine several teams may face a similar situation.

Was wondering if this has been given any thought and what the outcome/ramifications of this situation would be?

Presume you would still be able to keep picking at the end if you wanted...? Isn’t that how it works in the AFL....?

You would need to make trades to ensure that you have enough draft picks to fill your side.

AFL teams trade picks for various reasons, a lot of it is to do with points for father/son and academy players, and some get back into the draft late when they see a player they like.

Teams will also need to make sure that they won't go over the cap limits and be forced to trade away players before round 1, and have the quadruple penalty applied.

Makes sense. My only counter would be that if a lot of teams are in a similar situation there may not be enough of a market for draft picks to actually get a trade done. Or teams might be forced into overpaying for an Auction player they don’t even necessarily want just to meet the minimum quota.

I think this is potentially something to review for future seasons. Keen to see how things play out though, I could just be overthinking and it turns out to be a non-issue

Interesting. I presume live trade with teams who are about to pass makes sense

Crikey, I've just sat down to do some sums on current team and it looks like I will stuggle to get anyone in the FA draft, lol.

Contract years is not a problem, but drafting 8 players on only 3.17m is a real thight squeeze even before offering contacts to my 2nd contract players

I like this idea.

The one I use to take part in had a time limit, I believe it was 3 hours between 7am and 10pm.

Each person got a whatsapp reminder when it was there go. 3 hour clock started ticking.

It was an unwritten rule, you were to take your pick as soon as possible. The three hours was to facilitate people's working / family life. It wasn't to sit back and watch a pre season game and await the result (holding up the draft for the 3 hours). This was never enforced as everyone either hid it well or abided by the spirit of the draft.

We got them all done pretty quickly to be honest.

I think with the above suggestion, the issue occurs where we are in a much more complex competition than a normal single season draft, or even a normal keeper league without salary cap and contracts etc.

I think it’d be much more beneficial sitting aside an hour, hour and a half somewhere across that week or so leading into round one, to do the draft all in one sitting. As I for one, do not want to be on the clock for three hours, either whilst at work, or cricket training, having to make a selection without having my computer with spreadsheets and other data handy to make an informed draft selection. And whilst a draft in one sitting you only have a minute or so to make your selection, you are at least setup with all your spreadsheets and full team and salaries in front of you, where you’re checking off people from your board when they are picked, etc.

Plus the fact it’s a hell of a lot more fun doing the draft properly in one sitting.

Yeah, salary cap considerations will make it tricky. Wonder if Friday night next week might work? Or any chance we push our luck and try get some of the standard draft done on Monday if we have an hour spare?

Between the Auction Draft segment and the Preseason Draft teams will need to sign their 2nd Contract players and delist players (whilst still paying their salary). There are quite a number of teams with tight salary caps, so they will need to run their sums carefully. I'll need time to make sure everything is in order.

I'm not that keen on giving up Friday in addition to Monday. They are two nights when I catch up with friends for a drink and/or listen to local music. If I have to do Friday next week I will. It's just not my preference. Sunday afternoon works much better.

It is definitely a better experience doing the draft in the one sitting. Made better with the ability to zoom.

Fair enough - will be personal opinion on it all I think.

I will have a pool of players when approaching my pick, so have done all the pre work. Find I can be far more organised before my three hour window, rather than 1 min blocks and maybe 10 mins to the next pick.

If we want to do a block, weekday nights are by far my preference. Tuesday/Wednesday night before round 1 is cutting it fine, but is that the best block @KLo30?

Will really struggle to give up a work day and have 4 birthdays this weekend (public holiday long weekend Melbourne) and 2 weddings next weekend.

Good call on the 2CPs forgot about it, I will definitely need that time with so many to re-sign.

I meant Friday next week btw, I thought this Friday wasn’t available. Sunday 14 arvo works for me!
