Dont know which to go with if i do choose one of the Doggies, so heres my list of pros and cons that i can think of, feel free to help me pick?

Bont- Pros- Big Ceiling, heard hes going to like the rule change, Machine and should get lots of games, can be Sc friendly every now and then
Cons- Drops off in parts of the season, Gets tagged alot, The Treloar effect, can stay forward for a while

Macrae-Pros, high ceiling, pretty consistent over the years, machine, lots of games, very Sc friendly
Cons- The Treloar effect, opponents could choose this year to shut him down?

Hmmm which one of these is worth more than Neale?

I’m really of the opinion the Bulldogs are now stocked with tall forwards and Bont won’t be played forward as much as a consequence. Macrae on the other hand has occasionally played wing and half-forward and has the better uncontested possession gathering ability to play that position successfully. I therefore fear Macrae could be squeezed out of the inside midfield more often than Bont.

That said I still lean Macrae because of the consistent scoring ability he has shown and his more proven ability to hit high scores consistently (more sustainable upside)

Macrae last year across the league was ranked :-

2nd for disposals
3rd for uncontested possessions
8th for inside ’50s

3rd consecutive season of averaging over 120 - 12 x 100's (6 over 130 & 3 over 160)

His only score below 90 came in the final round of 2020 - 85 v Freo.

When Hunter was out suspended last season, Macrae was the one who played more outside (he was the most affacted) & he averaged 16 points less when Hunter was out.

I would love to go Bont since im just a fan of the player himself, but i feel Macrae could be the better choice?

I know he's played a bit of wing and half-forward when Bevo was doing his thing in 2019. You see him occasionally line up on a flank or on a wing in games but he's nearly always in the guts. He'll still be playing a lot of inside mid time, but they all have to be shifted around when everyone is in the side out of necessity. I just see Bont being shifted slightly less than Macrae due to structure and the types of roles they are both suited to. With English/Martin, Naughton and Bruce up forward I'm not sure that Bont has much room to slot in up there that often.

I still reckon Macrae is the better option. Inside mid is always preferable, the new rules are hard to gauge too much in that regard, but they could help good ball users, which Macrae and Bont both are.

I didn't notice a role change or anything like that. He just came home with a wet sail.

Copped several tags early in the season and really struggled. I recall him being forward more than is ideal also but the stats don't really support it.

To be fair, most talking points they come up with on SEN for callers to discuss are pretty pointless.

Although it’s annoying (I speak as a owner pre pre season games too), Bont being at 20% doesn’t really make him a worse pick. Ownership only really comes into play when it’s towards 50% and it becomes a thing of betting against the player.

For example not picking a Cripps/Rowell/Williams who all have high ownership can be beneficial if they do not perform as around half your competition will have underperforming premos.

not starting any of them. new rules make walsh more appealing option than cripps, always struggled with rowell body holding up over a full season when he has only two preseasons and 4 games under his belt. wont be a 105+ keeper and therefore not worth m5 for rd1. taranto yr4 breakout option has more upside than rowell and m8 as worst outcome.

Mitchell still unlikely.
Wingard on target for round two. Which is a bit of a concern for Brockman possibly.

Media saying he is a chance to front up in a VFL practice game, and Clarko said he would play him round one off the back of no match sim.
As a Hawks fan, personally I'd prefer we give him a few weeks to get himself fully right rather than rush him in, but tbh he did play the entirety of 2020 with the bung shoulder anyway.

Gone the safe and durable picks in Macrae and Merrett and then risking it for the biscuit in running both Kelly and Fyfe both off uninterrupted pre-seasons.

Taranto to me seems the best option of the sub $500k value players so easy to slot in alongside the others.
