Cheers for the reply Herbie

It’s either this side or the other one I’m toying with is without Lloyd/Neale/Danger so I might get FOMO

Would love your thoughts on which side you favour

I like your defence setup in Team 1 , leaves room for Lloyd , Whitfield + one other.

Not sure on J Clark though , but his and Young's price type work , Butts could surprise and be 50-60 which could match some of the cheap forward/mid cheapies.

Seems to 10-12 premiums so damned if I would be confident picking the right from 5 the start.

Although I have gone 5 deepyself and toyed with Duggan & H Clark myself but realised they probably will fall short of true premium.

Currently have Crisp & Howe their.

Mitchell must be iffy , could be a case of seeing how he goes.

Danger with more mid time + Tobias (owned him last season, exciting when he plays but frustrating when he misses).

Butters could be one of a few that breaks into that Top 8.

Probably would take the Lloyd , Neale , Danger side.

Even if Neale drops to $ 650k he is still almost 3 "perfect" downgrades to get.

Ok, slight editing issues previously, this is better

I think daniher is a straight better pick than atkins. Despite not owning Gawn, which I don't mind, you're still on 12 premos. Prefer Gawndy set ups for the 12 premo team. I think the team is unnecessarily higher risk by going with the big dogs over the big dog.

The (hopefully) final version until teams start to drop!

After having Lloyd in my team since version 1 I finally took him out and brought in Macrae instead.. but then I realised my constant tweaks have seen me end up with 3 dogs mids! Still trying to work out if that's a good or bad thing..

Chatting to a few mates that are avid geelong supporters they are all raving about Clark and are expecting big things.. I'm normally nervous of the "one eyed supporter bias" but in this case I'll back them in unless team selections give me a reason to worry. His game vs the bombers looked extremely good, and while I don't see that every week he did show he can have an impact in all the parts of the field which is a huge bonus.

Loads of chat about Gawn/Grundy in other threads but my view is simple - it could be impossible to get them in over the year (or by a relevant round) and it's hard to do well with compromised rucks. We have 7 less trades to last 5 additional rounds so it won't be the luxury 2020 season where trades meant much less than normal!

Most of the rookies are still placeholder but structurally I think this is what I want (eg, a for/ruck at F8 but who will depend on teams).

Only 3 sleeps to go!

I like it, probably as it's similar to mine, outside of rookies not much to say

Here's another team log to throw on to the fire.

I'm playing SC, AF and RDT this season so have some popular selections like Zerrett, Macrae, Short, Dunks, rookie R2s etc in other formats. Anyone has the capacity to find themselves injured (although some more than others!) or get off to slow starts. So I usually look for a fair bit of risk diversification across the 3 sides rather than tripling down on many non-rookies.

Anyway this is where I'm currently landing with my SC squad:

Only 4 premium starting mids would scare me , will we get all those rookies Round 1 ?

Clark is going to be fascinating for those that start him in defence , given the lack of rookies now I wonder what the "escape clause" is if he is dropped after 1-2 rounds.

Looks like you still have 12 premiums though so will be interesting if all the mid rookies appear.

Here is the team i was talking about, hopefully, i didn't stuff it up?
At least you hopefully have a starting bench this season 😀 ✓

Certainly can't fault the mids and Rucks.

D4-D6 will decide your fate.

Forward line might look a bit thin with a rookie at F4.

Does Butters - > Phillips (Hawthorn) then allows you a J Cameron or Caldwell instead of one of the forward rookies ?

Very nice team.

Yeah I'm working on a few contingencies if the mid rookies don't come good - Danger and/or Dunkley into the mids is one as there is a couple of fwd rookies that I could add in (Jones is one that springs to mind). I had Clark as M5 while Lloyd was D1 but swung him back to bring in Macrae.

Feel happy with the 12 premiums so just need to fit the rookie puzzle around them if I can!

Looks like Warner , Fullarton (or Treacy) , Jones , Rowe is the popular F4-8.

Bergman the other , possibly Briggs.

Clark as a mid looks "safer" to start but then I keep getting Butts or Cox at D5/D6.

Might need to look at a Buckley/Clark/L Young 3 early setup.

Come on the rookie annoucements.

Look good. I don't like Rowell myself but can see the appeal obviously. Much prefer Cripps in that spot.

If all those rookies come through the team can work, but I think you are exposed to trouble on forward and defence lines.

My instinct is that you are relying on one too many breakouts and one too many cheap rookies but it's very hard to tell so if you like this setup you should back it in.

An obvious way to get a rookie off field would be something like Neale down to dusty and Cox up to Daniel.

Merrett down to Cripps and butters up to Dunkley another option. But obviously if you like Cox to go 65+ and Butters to go 95+ and Rowell to go 105+ and Neale to go 130+ and Merrett to go 115+ then you should back all those predictions in.

Am I wasting my time with teams with 4 cheap rookies in Def: Kosi, Highmore, Sharp, Murray?
I think so. Not impossible but unlikely, and a very small step to problems even if they're all named.

Edit: if Jones is one of the ones named it gets more complicated, because we'd want him on field when playing so going too deep in Def might have its own downside. Seems unlikely at this point though.

Thanks mate, means downgrading to some mid-pricers which I really just don't like.
